I drove by yesterday and noticed that it looks like the building will have some arched windows facing Lafayette. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.
It's looking great! For new construction, I'm very impressed with the emerging design.
Agreed. Though it's a shame that a local pharmacy can't go in - that's more a sign of the times than anything. I'm glad to have something decent within walking distance, in a nice building, that will allow me to buy the basics.
It's so frustrating living in a food desert surrounded by $500,000 houses.

Having sworn off the three local chain grocers, I've learned to change my shopping approach. My strategy is "smaller if better". Soulard Farmers Market, Vincent's, and Viviano's. Occasionally, I'll pick up food items at Costco. If and when a grocer opens on Bohemian Hill, it'll have to be pretty special to attract me.

My thoughts exactly. Being in Fox Park, I would like to start gravitating towards Lafayette Sq. and downtown services. Driving Gravois everywhere is just exhausting.
Note the sign installed along the hwy exit. Might be a little much when its lit up.
The new Butler's Pantry building looks complete and functioning. Seems like an okay addition to an otherwise abandoned lot. It's too bad their parking, truck docks and fence front Dillon Dr into the Georgian complex.
It also looks like the Palladium continues to make slow progress. The windows have been in for awhile, but interior work seems to be underway.
Work also looks underway to redo Carroll St, cutting through the multiple old hospital buildings.
Additionally, new windows are going in on one of the larger buildings, the one with the smoke stack. Does anyone know what this building is going to be used for? Are they just putting windows in since it faces Butler's Pantry and Palladium?

More demolition?
Clarification: No building demo, just tear out of old road and reconfiguring of a new Carroll St.

Good. ^
Any updates/pics of the Walgreens?

Walgreens looks to be installing a bike rack right out front already, as they start to pour sidewalks!

Looks like they're getting close to finishing. Shelves are set up inside but not yet stocked. Anyone heard of an opening date?
Last I heard was beginning November sometime.
I am disappointed that they went through the effort to install windows on the ground floor, then covered them with shelving inside. Isn't there anything more creative Walgreens could do?

I know the merchandise display options aren't quite as appealing as they would be at a department store or even a boutique, but it seems like Walgreens could use those windows to display specialty items if they're not going to do anything else with them.
Sign on the door says openning on or about 10-30-09.
Appears to be 90% stocked.

The Palladium is having an Open House this week for invitees. They are ready to roll.
Butler's Pantry (Palladium) had a reception tonight for customers. Building is OK. Looks to me like a lot of corners were cut, as a construction workman there told me a couple of months ago.
Food was OK too. Nothing spectacular. About what one would expect. Lots of people were there.
Let's hope this does something for this abused neighboehood.

As nice as that is, it kinda sucks that opening a Walgreen's is reason for celebration.

^I'm happy to see it, but not sure why it's listed as news on KSDK's home page.
Do yourself a favor and skip the comments, they make the cretins at STLToday look like a bunch of urbanists

Received a piece of mail saying that Walgreen's has applied for a liquor permit.
This should improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.

All Walgreen's in the area (and maybe the country) are pursuing liquor licenses.
Interesting. It was just a couple of years ago that they gave up liquor sales. I wonder why they changed their mind?

An alderman at the Holly Hills neighborhood meeting last night indicated that CVS will be applying for beer/wine licenses, so Walgreens may feel the need to keep up with the competition. The alderman also mentioned there would not be any booze or single cans sold.Framer wrote:Interesting. It was just a couple of years ago that they gave up liquor sales.
