Bret Narayan is in for the 4th ward.

Similar to Pihl you can't get ahold of him for literally any reason and when you finally do he's not helpful.  He is not getting my vote.

I hope it ends up being him vs Gras. Give the residents of that ward someone who will actually answer their emails and not purposely delay things that can be simple to address. I think Browning or Gras will be good at this. Pihl promised a lot and delivered so little.

We'll see if Car Wash Daddy decides to file for this election, but either way I have to think that Narayan is the leading candidate in the new 4th at this point.
That would surprise me.

It would surprise me if Narayan is the leading candidate not if Vaccaro is running.  I live and do business in his ward and he has alot of supporters.

Moved to 24 in July.  He responded to my emails within a day or two compared to weeks with Coatar.  YMMV.  No thanks on Vaccaro.

Vaccaro is very responsive, does constituent services things well, and not a lot of controversy in his ward, thus he has pretty strong support among his current constituents.  He's an old school alderman in and old school ward, we'll see how that transfers with the ward merger, but I predict a Vaccaro win in this one.

Can someone explain the Car Wash Daddy thing to me? Also, I see in his post that he does his Alderman job "full-time." Maybe I just need to check my privilege, but I don't see how anyone can live on an Alderman's salary unless they have a working partner and/or independent wealth. I'm sure this is a major deterrent to would-be candidates, myself included. It's just not possible to take a massive pay cut from my private sector job to be a full-time alderman, but it seems equally impossible to be an effective alderman while working a (more than) full time regular job, and still have time for family, etc.

Isn't there a proposal to double alderman pay?

I would have no issues with doubling the pay to $72,000 and capping secondary work to 10-15 hours a week

Here it is BB119. Doubles pay to $72k and increases the expenses to $5k each from $4200, which is actually a cut overall since there are 14 fewer alders. Sounds reasonable to me.

Seems like an easier sell if the book some savings on the salary adjustment.  Say 60-65k.  Then pin to inflation adjust every 2 years.  It's probably quibbling though and yeah it should be a full-time job and able to reasonably support a family.

Legit pre-approved expenses should honestly be lifted way more the 5k.  There should be a rulebook which is publicly accessible and non-compliant expenses should come out of pocket, but a person shouldn't have to pay out of pocket to do their job.  5k annually seems very low to accomplish anything.

Aside from the day care tax break controversy that comes to recent memory.  I'll need to look up both of their detailed BB voting records ahead of deciding.

I didn't read anything in there though that seemed to disallow an alder from working another job.

I get that you can work a full-time job and another job, they were technically 'full-time' prior to this, just not 'paid' like full time.

So, what changes? They possibly get a higher salary and potentially not spend any extra time or effort on the position? Or am I missing something in the text?

I am registered in Ward 4, would prefer not to vote for Vacarro but I do have to admit he is definitely a presence in Lindenwood Park. Car Wash Daddy is actually his email address which makes it even more comical. He also has a very strong South City accent so it is more like "Car Warsh Daddy".

It's kind of nuts to me that the sixth ward appears to have only one candidate.
