Someone who knows more can correct me, but Jennifer Florida is a more of a centrist Dem right?

It sure seemed that way when I voted the last time.
For that election, Jennifer Florida was at my old polling place, Fanning Middle School, and was trying to get people to vote for her.
I didn't, but I remember the progressives at the polling site essentially thinking she was a Republican vote.
If I'm not mistaken, Jennifer Florida was the Alderwoman for the ward before Megan Green won it away from her.

Not sure on statutory timing but the March primary for the new 14 ward system is just around the corner so there may not have to be a special election held to fill what will be a short-term vacancy for the current 15th Ward.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Nov 14, 2022Megan Green was my Alderwoman.
When will my ward be voting to replace her? Next year, right?
I wonder who will be running for it. I remember Jennifer Florida ran against her the last time; it wouldn't shock me at all if she ran again.
The new 6th Ward combines all of TGS, Shaw and Compton Hts. along with a portion of Dutchtown. We'll have to wait and see who files, but Annie Rice would easiy win if she chose to run. If not, it's not uncommon for Ward Committee members to run when there is an open seat, so I wouldn't be surpised to see one or more members file from the existing 15th or another ward(s), depending on where they live. As for old school Jennifer Florida, I doubt she would be competitive given 6th Ward make-up but you never know.

There will be no special to fill the seat. It will be vacant until next year
Florida was in the seat before Green. She left it to take over as Recorder of Deeds when Sharon Carpenter resigned due to committing serious nepotism infractions. Of course Carpenter then decided to run again for the seat she had just resigned from and beat Jennifer Florida, so Florida ran again for the 15th in the next election.

^I forgot just what a messed up little circuit that whole series of elections made.
Cara Spencer announced she's running for the new 8th ward. Does this mean she goes up against Dan Guenther (if he runs)?

we had a list somewhere that had alders residency by new ward
Dan isn’t running nor is Ingrassia (she has a candidate she will support tho)

Probably not a bad idea for Jack to step down and reassess things going forward. If he comes back to politics I would advise him to move on from the Slay/Krewson associations.
It's my understanding that Shedrick Kelley--who came surprisingly close in the 2021 7th ward contest--plans to run again. But I think Spencer will be hard to beat.

How much Hispanic leadership has there historically been in the St. Louis metro?
I would guess there hasn't been much.
I'd love to see more of it, though I don't know a thing about Daniela Velazquez. I just want to see St. Louis become more attractive to Hispanics.

We had a mayor named Alfonso Cervantes in the 1960's and 70's.
I kinda feel like the approval/run-off system was very specifically made to solve the problem of what happened during the 2017 Mayoral election when Lyda won with 35% of the vote. I'm not sure it makes sense for alder elections where we're lucky to have 2 people run!

President Green has hired a chief of staff (her most important hire) and it’s a really good one, should be announced in the next week or so.

I would too. Hopefully it’s not the cookie cutter progressive stuff.RockChalkSTL wrote:How much Hispanic leadership has there historically been in the St. Louis metro?

Since the news is out, my dear friend and my wedding officiant, Jay Nelson, will be the chief of staff. Jay previously/(until next week) worked for county executive Sam Page and before that he’s been with Senator Nasheed during her 2 terms as Senator. Jay is a public servant through and through and I’m glad he is now in city government instead of county governmentdbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Nov 22, 2022President Green has hired a chief of staff (her most important hire) and it’s a really good one, should be announced in the next week or so.
