I hear the 'Rocky' theme song in the background. Maybe 'Eye of the Tiger'
I'm thinking "Be Not Afraid," by Bob Dufford SJ, but that's clearly an inside joke.

Inspiration for that rant was Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman.
Don't you guys ever watch movies?
Cordish/DeWitt: How about you guys start hosting movies in that softball yard? I bet you could at least get people to visit it if you start playing old baseball movies there, such as The Natural or Field of Dreams. It would be pretty easy to set up a portable screen and hand out popcorn to everyone who picnics out there. Talk about a great way to earn back some goodwill.
Of course, knowing how you guys operate, you'd probably screw it up again and play Fever Pitch.

I picked up on it, but I just like your posts in general; that last one finally made me say something.
^Haha! That would be the ultimate burn on Cardinals fans.Gone Corporate wrote: Of course, knowing how you guys operate, you'd probably screw it up again and play Fever Pitch.
Don't think it means a whole lot considering. But, kinda surprised the DeWitt would put himself in a position to talk about Ballpark Village at this point as noted on a Bizjournals posting today.

For anyone interested in downtown development, an upcoming event features an All-Star line-up.
The St. Louis Chapter of CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) is hosting its sixth annual downtown building crawl on Tuesday, May 18.
In recent years, the building crawls have featured visits to up-and-coming developments for brokers, attorneys and architects to get an inside look and update on projects
Notable for this year’s event are the speakers who will update the projects. Mayor Francis Slay will kick off the event with an overview of the One City Centre office tower at 600 Washington, which is being redeveloped.
Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III will talk about the long delayed Ballpark Village mixed-use project, which is slated to be

That would be an improvement. I'm not sure it could look much worse than it does now.lukethedrifter wrote:I bet it's Ballpark Lake tonight.
I think I'm an easy-going person overall, but when I see that DeWitt III is going to be at an event, for some reason, thoughts of civil disobedience crosses my mind. Seriously, though, what can Mr. Dewitt possibly say after all of this time and after all of the delays? I understand the development doesn't exist in a vacuum, and that the economy has played some role in the delays, but what we have to show for it is still a pathetic joke at best.
Gone Corporate, I love the 'Scent of a Woman' take on the matter!
I just had to say that I had never seen the Ballpark Village animation on the Cordish website. It's really cool... but one of its features is the future Bowling Museum.

They were supposed to start construction when we got to the 300th page...
And it looks like they failed.

Lament for the 300th page and no progress beyond that craptastic softball field.
It takes a whole lot of effort to fail this significantly. Way to go, Cordish.
Q: What's the over/under on construction beginning by the 400th page?

^ The over/under is likely in Powerball jackpot territory. Even if construction was announced to commence in June, I think we'd be more than capable of generating more than 100 more pages of posts in that time. That is unless the admins step in and increase the number of posts per page.

Why isn't there a call to picket when there are ~40K fans and TV cameras all over on each game night (~81 chances/season to get the message out)? We could at least try to embarrass dewitt, and draw some attention to him devaluing city property and failing on his promises.
Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III speaks about Ballpark Village:

According to DeWitt, the Cardinals and Cordish are working hard on securing financing for a new scaled-down phase one that could start at the end of this year. This stage would NOT include a residential component.

It's pretty clear that the Cardinals aren't willing to take on ANY risk with this project.

I'm in favor of pulling public funding for the project. This should be one of the more marketable pieces of land in the city. I get the feeling that DeWitt is walking the line of making sure he gets all the public subsidies possible while building as little as possible.
I believe getting a Class A office tower on this site for Stifel Nichols and Peabody, hopefully, should be the priority for downtown, the city, region and state this year. Like everybody realizes, this is prime spot for new construction and it will come in time.

I have revised my earlier post from two years ago...looks like we've made it to depression.brickandmortar wrote:Every time I look at this thread lately it reminds me of the stages of grief...
* Denial (they won't build Ballpark Village)
* Anger (Why won't they build it already?)
* Bargaining (maybe we can just live with Centene)
* Depression (screw it, this is St. Louis, what's new)<----we are here
* Acceptance (Well that Applebees they built is better than a hole in the ground)

For what it's worth, I think it's time to move on...

I get the feeling that the Cardinals assume the city will simply rubber stamp any sh!t that they feel like slinging against the wall.
Before the Cardinals come crawling back before the Board of Alderman to ask for more tax breaks, perhaps the mayor and the aldermen should remind them that they were supposed to pay penalties if phases of the development were not complete by a specific date. Unfortunately those penalties have been kicked down the road so many times by both parties, that I'm not even sure when or if they are supposed to begin anymore.
Bottom line- I don't think the city should settle for anything less than the best for this site. If we're talking about securing the future of an existing downtown business like Stifel or an opportunity to attract a new company, that would be great. If the Cardinals are just going to build a tower with a Cardinals-themed restaurant (aren't there enough of those in downtown- Mike Shannon's, J. Buck's, Ozzie's, Fifteen?), tell them they can open up their own wallets.

For the life of me I don't understand why he simply doesn't sell the land. Let the market decide what should be done...Developers ARE getting secured financing downtown now...
