^ right... we have slow but steady increase in the downtown residential population but the modest 350 or so newbies aren't enough to really enliven things across downtown.
Cleveland is looking at a more vertical LeBron Village on the site of a current vacant lot

Stark Enterprises is seeking early approvals and financing help from the city of Cleveland for a project that could change the downtown skyline, with 500 apartments, offices, stores, restaurants, a hotel and structured parking

I gotta say that downtown Cleveland has the type of momentum I'd love to have here.

I think over the next year or two the newness of BPV will slightly wear off. Yes, it'll still be popular for games or before games, and perhaps if they have events, but it's not like the food is good. Wheelhouse is already the go-to spot downtown. Wash ave needs to stay creative with band events/ concerts. They also need more "creative" style bars like Cherokee st. Are there many hipsters downtown? Or any?
They were totally dark at 10:30 Wednesday night. Doesn't sound like much of a go-to place.jcity wrote:Wheelhouse is already the go-to spot downtown.

There are plenty of creative people and hipsters. 4-5 buildings are dedicated to artists and another on the way. I think the downtown community could do a better job to leverage the artists capabilities. However the retail spaces are more expensive than Cherokee so that may be one barrier.
Based on history, Cleveland's will be built before St. Louis'.roger wyoming II wrote:Cleveland is looking at a more vertical LeBron Village on the site of a current vacant lot
St. Louis, unfortunately, have losers in Cordish and the St. Louis Cardinals. That partnership is working hard to keep downtown St. Louis mediocre or worse. No urgency.

^ Well hopefully the hints that an announcement that residential and maybe more commercial is near, but I bet this will be built before office comes to BPV. Downtown Cleveland is cruising along and making us a laggard.
I didn't realize Buffalo also is building a Hockey Village next to the Sabres... Phase One of the $200 million or so HarbourCenter has already opened... does this look in any way familiar?
![]()
HarborCenter, which officially opened its first phase last week, is home to a pair of hockey rinks, two off-ice and athletic training centers, a 750-car parking garage, a Tim Hortons Cafe and Bake Shop and the (716) sports bar that opens this afternoon.
More than 9,000-square feet of retail space that fronts Main Street is expected to be filled by early next year and a 205-room Marriott hotel will open this summer.
http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/blog ... l?page=all
The sports component is already paying dividends:
HarborCenter officials have already booked 20 amateur hockey tournaments for the building and have also secured USA Hockey's Women's U-18 finals and sled hockey championship rounds. /
I think something like this is needed downtown and still could be associated with Ballpark Village.... I believe its Gateway City that has commented on the huge youth and amateur sports market and how a good chunk of that could/should be downtown and not all out in the burbs.

^ holy Crimea, I didn't realize how cool, and vertical, this place is!

HarborCenter opened Oct. 31 with a tie game between Ohio State and Buffalo's Canisius College in the 1,800-seat main rink; the restaurant opened Friday.
"It's quite a unique deal," said Ohio State coach Steve Rohlik. "I never took an elevator to the sixth floor to play hockey. With the academy and all, there's certainly a lot going on there."

Wheelhouse is more than likely dead during the week, like almost anywhere. Try it on Friday and Saturday nights. What's truly dead is Clayton on a Saturday night.
So, when will the new residential tower be announced?

It wasn't dead. Flying Saucer was dead (but still open).jcity wrote:Wheelhouse is more than likely dead during the week, like almost anywhere. Try it on Friday and Saturday nights. What's truly dead is Clayton on a Saturday night.

The Wheelhouse was completely closed. A bar that's closed at 10:30pm any night can't be much of a bar at all.

So does anyone have a handle on how BPV is doing so far now that we've had a bit of off-season now? Also, how it does on a Rams game day like yesterday?
Was recently at an event with a number of bar/restaurant industry people. Talking with some old friends, don't be surprised if this winter is a bloody one for downtown, Landing and Soulard businesses with Ballpark Village to blame. I won't name names but a few significant places won't make it through the winter.

I have my own personal top 5 of whats going to close over winter. Actually its a top 4 because The Collective was near the top. DIdnt think it would close before the holiday shopping season. Lets hope this is more of a swap of out with the old in with the new.
Dweebe. Were they upbeat on the future or do they see things staying stagnate for a while?

wow, this really chaffes my butt.... Clayco and Forum Studio will be helming US Steel's new 250,000 sq. ft. headquarters in HockeyTown while McCormack Barron is doing the residential development.

Gotta say, we rather suck.

well, technically, we really, really, really suck but who is counting?
to be fair though it is nice to see that some of that Pittsburgh money will be flowing back to the Lou... kudos to MB and Clayco/Forum.

Isn't Detroit Hockey town?

^ Buffalo thinks its hockey town, too. Will the real hockey town stand up! Gotta say though in terms of BPV-style developments, the Buffalo project seems to take the hockey title.... who can argue with fourth floor hockey rinks and ground floor flagship Tim Horton's?

What is our giant black giant parking lot? chopped liver.....?

I would think Montreal is more of a Hockey Town than both Detroit and Buffalo.. I really love what Buffalo is doing and i have a high interest in possibly going there next summer to check it all out. From what i seen on televised games in Detroit they barely fill the seats and its good that they are getting a new arena for the Wings since its such a historic team. I honestly think any city that supports it's hockey team is a hockey town i mean St.Louisan's are very passionate about the Blues even though they always choke when comes to post season play. Speaking of this project I'm a bit agitated by this whole BPV development i truly believe downtown deserves much better than what we have now. Cardinal fans are very loyal to this team the least the Cardinals can do is honor the project in its entirety..
^Yep. In a way every delay and downsizing is a bit like saying "we don't think investing in our own back yard is worth it."
This was one of them: but it was supposed to be after New Year's.dweebe wrote:Was recently at an event with a number of bar/restaurant industry people. Show-Me's on Laclede's Landing has officially closed it's doors after 21 years. Thank you to each and every one of you for your patronage, friendship, and for all of the amazing memories! (If only those wall could talk!)
St.Louis is changing and Show-Me's on the Landing just didn't have the patience to go through the growing pains any longer. Hopefully St.Louis's changes are for the better and maybe ....we'll be back again!
