Nothing boils my blood and turns my stomach more than graffiti - especially on new infrastructure. I feel the same way about illegal dumping. There needs to be a mandatory-minimum for civil service hours and fines for people who are caught defacing (public or private) property. However, I do know that police with integrity are busy with other criminal and civil matters.
^ Definitely get the same feelings on illegal dumping...but this doesn't illicit the same reaction for me. Not that I think it's OK, either.
I certainly don't like the basic and unimaginative tags, but I'm also not totally against adding some splashes of color to the plethora of bland concrete garages around here. Obviously needs to be said it should be done in conjunction with the property owner...defacing someone's property, no matter how creative, without their permission should for sure be punished.
But developers partnering up with Paint Louis or other prolific taggers to bring a little life to these lifeless garages would be OK with me.

^ i actually like the colors on that tag but, yeah, in general tags are annoying garbage. put that person's impeccable sense of color to work on some real garage murals.
If nothing makes your blood boil more than that I'd suggest you should get your priorities in order. STL does not have a graffiti problem, there are other cities with a lot more.arch city wrote: ↑Jun 16, 2021Nothing boils my blood and turns my stomach more than graffiti - especially on new infrastructure. Only after he/she/they do community service and pay a fine.urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Jun 16, 2021put that person's impeccable sense of color to work on some real garage murals.
What is this? This is a joke, right? Has to be. I'm laughing so hard right now.PeterXCV wrote: ↑Jun 16, 2021

^Fascist attitude if you ask me. Pay a fine for what, adding some color to an ugly parking garage? I seriously can't imagine being upset about that.
^ Fascist? Really? Tone down the hyperbole.
It’s private property. There is nothing “fascist” about getting fined for tagging property that doesn’t belong to you.
Would you be OK with someone tagging your house without permission?

Yeah, it's only a garage, but it wasn't their property to "add a pop of color" just because they wanted it.
FYI: The owners have potential residents to consider moving there in the future. Now they have to pay for it to be removed.
I'm done. I've stated my opinions and frustrations. There's nothing more to say.

Yeah not a fan of the graffiti as most are pretty unimaginative and clearly done without permission. Love some of the murals around town though but perhaps they're not the same kind of artists.
What's up with this project? Been awhile since the last update. Have they started framing it yet, or is this on pause due to the lumber shortage?

Last year it was mentioned and site plans showed retail in front of this wall and I hope that’s still the plan and this isn’t the view from the sidewalk
^ Let's hope so. Hard to tell from that angle, but it looks like the retail would be built in front of that wall; at least according to this overhead pic of the plan (the pink at least, maybe the light blue next to it):
The light blue spaces are the lobby/common area/amenities. The two pink spaces that straddle the garage driveway are retail.EssTeeEll wrote: ↑Aug 28, 2021^ Let's hope so. And according to the architectural plans, the retail space on the right is supposed to be a dog bar (if you zoom in, you can just make out the poker tables in the back behind Golden Phoenix).
Been two months now. How's that foundation coming?GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Jul 24, 2021They are still working on the foundation
^I don't know how the foundation is, but carpenters are assembling the pannelized framing every day now.

They have been actively constructing the building for months now. The portion closest to the garage is taller than the garage. They appear to be moving from North to South in the construction of the actual apartment portion.
Months? They were pouring foundations for the residential portion just two months ago, after a very long construction pause of unknown origin. The whole site was fully excavated and the precast garage erected over 8 months ago...newstl2020 wrote: ↑Sep 25, 2021They have been actively constructing the building for months now. I have no reason to use that stretch of highway much, but last time I was by, I didn't see anything sticking out of the ground but precast garage. Plus, nobody has mentioned any progress other than that the building permit was finally issued. Hence, my question.

Framing for units closest to the garage has been up since at least first of the month.
