get throw in the dumpster.

Parking?
PARKING?!
Are you kidding me!?!
PARKING?!
Isn't there a garage on the same block? What is the obscene infatuation with parking 2 feet away in this town. I've never seen anything like it.

The 2 & 97 stop at this property, the 16 & 91 stop 1 block away, a Metrolink station sits 4 blocks away, there's a public lot 150ft. away, and a garage 300 ft. away. I think they're all set for parking.

^ Oh, and a streetcar being built. And it's student housing and the university's about six blocks away. If there's a grocery in The Loop, it would truly be a car-free site.

Don't forget about the underground parking that they are including in the first phase of the project as well.
Wash U released updated plans for the project to students today; they had a large team of representatives gathering feedback from students and selling them on the project. A pedestrian walkway has been added along with some aesthetic changes. Phase 1 will be open for the 2014-2015 school year.

True. Images have been added to the nextSTL story on the development. Thanks for posting!wabash wrote:^Thanks! One of the best first posts ever.

An old story, but for good measure:

http://www.westendword.com/Articles-Are ... -City.htmlUniversity City councilmen on Sept. 24 approved new zoning designations, laying the groundwork for the redevelopment of a section of Delmar Boulevard and several other properties for an $80 million student housing development.

FYI, the latest plan for this development: http://nextstl.com/stl-county/washingto ... oop-infill
They have one more hurdle to jump. If that goes through, fences go up Jan 29, demo starts Feb 4, comes out of the ground in Apr, open Aug 2014. Still working on the big tenant. Public art along the ped walkway. Rooftop terrace.
University City OKs Delmar Loop Apartment and Retail Project
From STLToday.com:
"An $80 million mixed-use development in the Delmar Loop has been approved by the University City City Council. Construction by Washington University, the project developer, could get under way next month with initial occupancy in August 2014, officials said."
This is great news. Hopefully the big tenant quincunx mentioned comes through.
FWIW, the architecture firm on this project did a huge multi-building project for Northeastern University (my alma mater), which turned out really nicely. I don't think the model or renderings do justice to their attention to detail and ability to to create nice spaces. Here's an example of the Northeastern buildings, which appear to use similar materials as the proposed Loop project:

^Nice. Thanks for the context.
I feel extremely comfortable about the outcome of this project with WashU guiding it. I did not attend the school, but they seem to be detailed and thorough.

Thanks for the pics, Wabash. I've been a bit underwhelmed by the renderings for the Loop project (mostly the weird hollowed-out section facing Delmar); hopefully the reality will be better.

I'd have to confirm, but there are almost certainly being saved...anyone else have a source who can verify?
