Can they possibly be serious? Wash U has infinitely more respect for the city that surrounds it than that other university a few miles east. You've never experienced blight until you've driven down Chouteau through Midtown. I think a lot of people get off on being contrarian just for the hell of it.wustl_eng wrote:WU students turning on their own development: http://www.studlife.com/forum/staff-edi ... -the-city/

Idiotic 18 year olds have to complain about something. They never sound very smart, but it feels good to at least try to change something, even if it's something that doesn't need changing. They'll realize how stupid they sounded regarding this in a few years.Anglophile wrote:Can they possibly be serious? ^Yeah. That editorial was probably not their best work.
Hopefully now that they have a full school year under their belt, and have had time to garner feedback, they'll move forward with Phase II soon. Maybe they're just waiting for Loop Trolley construction to wrap up before turning Enright back into a construction site.
IMO, the more Wash. U. Loop Lofts, the better.

StlToday - The Lofts on Delmar a finalist for global prize
http://m.stltoday.com/business/columns/ ... 26feb.htmlWashington University's big mixed-use project in the Delmar Loop is a finalist for this year's Global Award for Excellence from the Urban Land Institute.
Just over two years since Phase I opened up (for student residents and retail tenants). Any Wash. U. folk or otherwise know if Phase II is still part of the plan?
StudLife - Luxury student apartment building set to open in August
http://www.studlife.com/news/facilities ... in-august/Wild noted that the University plans to expand the Lofts at the site where the University Terrace apartments currently stand. However, this project has been delayed for now.
“That’s going to be about 150-200 beds off campus, and we’re just delaying the planning for that site at the present time,” Wild said.
^"That's going to be..." I like the certitude of that statement. Sounds like they're just providing The Everly with the easiest possible path to getting leased up before pursuing their own expansion plans.
Now that The Everly has had 3 incoming Wash. U. classes to market to, and 702 Westgate has been demo’d within the last 2 years and 6490 Enright has been demo’d within the last year, I wonder if we’ll see some traction on Phase II of the Lofts project soon.
