I've heard that Milo's on the Hill is going to get an exception. Probably because their owner is a alderman who opposed this bill.

Anyway, I love this place and have been waiting years to go in on Monday nights for 25 cent chicken wings without fear of black lung. I'll be disappointed if they get the exception.

I always stay out on the patio. Which means I don't go during the winter.

This formerley beautiful city was BUILT by smokers and drinkers. The suburbs were built by....weak-minded people with no soul.

I'm a bit disturbed about some information I came across that implies that Johnson & Johnson is putting alot of money behind these "bans" hoping to boost sales of their anti-nicotine products.

It's not about smoking. It's about money. It has become a multi-million dollar lobby that a fair amount of vocal people can easily get behind because, yes, smoking can be annoying when your eating. And vvvwwwaaalaaa!

And wow does it really bring out the self-righteuous weenies!

It should be up to the people to be responsible and respectful enough to know when and where smoking or any type of behavior is acceptable. Instead we bring in politics and laws and politicians and big corporate dollars. Sad.

Meanwhile, the govt - who supposedly cares deeply about your health - will give you a food debit card that many people use to exist solely on Hostess cakes and barbecue chips and grape soda.

But a grown-ass man can't walk into a bar and sit at the log with a drink and cigarette.

^^this city was also built by people who thought segregation of the races was a good thing.

Do you want to overturn that too?

^When I'm out for breakfast, I don't want gasoline in my coffee, glass shards in my eggs or smoke my air.

I'm pretty sure all of the above are illegal the great City of St. Louis.

If you find this is an unreasonable request, I believe S America is open for immigration.

And friend, the food choices of EBT card holders are least of your problems.

I'm looking forward to some really cold weather. I love to watch the idiot smokers huddled out on the sidewalk!

Sure enough, the smokers will moan & shrug, and the non-smokers will gloat, sometimes self-righteously. And surely, the lobbying funds around the ban have traces back to nicotine-patch makers and cigarette companies. I'm just rueing the day when I'm going to be at a quiet bar eating dinner & hearing someone narc out & yell: "YOU'RE A SMOKER! THAT'S ILLEGAL! WAITER, ARREST THAT MAN, BECAUSE HE HAS A PACK OF SMOKES SITTING ON HIS TABLE! SOMEONE CALL THE POLICE!" Just a matter of time, I suppose.

Focus: Are there any Downtown bars/restaurants that will still have indoor smoking? Please list if you know of any.

Disclosure: I smoke and am not a fan of smoke-filled venues.

Two that showed up in the news articles this weekend were Riley's Pub and Friendly's. Sounds like they both are pretty certain they will be allowed an exemption (city hasn't processed them yet).

I'll add Hair of the Dog to that list. Although when I asked, they suggested they wouldn't be able to get an exemption.

you know it's pretty rare that you hear a good argument in the STL Today comment section, but in the tradition of a broken clock I guess it can still happen from time to time

Anyway someone mentioned that the 1:30 (or 3 a.m.) closing time for bars in the city/county also imposes regulation on business owners and customers however no one seems to think those laws should be overturned.

That thread is for establishments with exemptions. This is to discuss establishments that allow smoking when they shouldn't.

Different. That person is asking which bars will have smoking. In other words, be exempt from the law.

Inno is asking which bars are not exempt, are not supposed to allow smoking, but are still allowing it, i.e. breaking the law.
