Did anyone get a look at the courtyard/lightwell of this building? Specifically, does the exterior design extend to, umm, how to word this, the exterior of the interior? :) I hope so. I hope they didn't just slap up some EIFS and generic windows. I never saw what the lightwell of the hotel looked like originally, other than what you could see walking by on Wash. Ave.

I heard this as well. The woman there said she was thinking they'd open possibly within six months.

I also heard that both Bridge & Tunnel Pizza (NY pizza by the slice) and a 24-hour diner would open in spring of '08.

That's amazing! Any idea what the hours of Bridge & Tunnel will be? I hope they will be somewhere around 11 a.m. to 5 a.m. That'd be a nice addition. Will these two establishments take up the entire retail space available for lease in this project? Or will there be additional space available as well?

I'm not aware of one yet, but if anyone knows of one, let us know!

I also had heard the diner will be owned by the same guy that owns Copia. If so, that's great news! I'm more and more impressed with Copia as times goes by. I hope I can say the same thing about the diner.

I think EM Harris is doing a lot of the work on this project. You can probably get some info from them... www.emharris.com

Rob Powers has a blurb about the Washington Avenue Apartments on his blog, including before and after pics:

Fantastic Job. What a testament to rehab vs demo.

This building is awesome. Wonder if there's ever going to be a time where we can check it out inside?

That's awesome. I'd still liked to have seen a different material/color for the marble, but IMO they got the windows/etc. just right. Good work. So much of our built environment can be reused that it's very, very rarely the case that demo is the only "feasible" option. Anyone who says otherwise is either an a**hole, stupid, or only concerned about a quick buck (and maybe all three!).

Does anybody know if they've begun leasing the units? I thought I saw some lights on inside the building, but that could've been final prep work or something.

I believe I saw a demo unit on one of the lower floors at the front of the building.

WOW! The final product in that image looks much better than I expected it to. I can't wait to see it in person. I still think that the original intention of using a wood facade would have been quite unique.

This building, along with Nadira Place catty-corner to it, should make a nice modern counter-point to the historic architecture on the other two corners of Tucker/Washington.

Has anyone heard any updates on when this building will be finished and ready to start renting?

Now THIS is how "outdated" or "old" buildings should be rehabbed. A slight change in materials makes all the difference!

Not me. But it looks like it has been ready to go for 3-4 months.

I did see them delivering a large load of drywall the other day.

Yes. And they were in the original design, too.

I never noticed they were slanted in the first picture. Maybe that was just me not looking close enough, though.

Looks like the outside work is almost complete but I have not seen or heard any leasing info. Does anyone know anything about this?

From my perspective across the street, it looks like these places have been ready to go for 4-5 months now. I'm wondering what the hold up is?

They looked done on the outside, but to redue the whole inside is another story. That is where the majority of the work is.

Even though I know they had models up on the 2nd floor during the October Loft Tour.
