I believe that's the new fast food restuarant being build adjacent to this area on Lindell . . .

I think it's where the Wendy's used to be in the Lindell Marketplace or whatever that's called.

Back to "the Villas"--ugh--I'm glad this was brought up. I was wondering about this yesterday. So construction is stalled at this point? I thought they were going to rebuild. Any ideas on the holdup?

They are likely waiting on insurance stuff and figuring out what they will have to redo as far as the concrete. I'm not worried yet. They have put up banners along the front since the fire. The Compton Gate Condos also took a while to restart construction and they are finished now.

Good point.

Living out of town, the distance makes passing time seem longer than it really is.

Yeah, I remember Comptons Gate seeming like it was forever before they got started.

Vail Place in Lafayette Square also took a long time to re-start, but now it's nearly finished.

Workers have been on the site for at least the past two mornings, I have noticed some new concrete forms being installed.

I took a look yesterday after class. The concrete on the back portion where the fire was is being taken out. There is also some forming where nothing had been built yet. Looks like everything is back on track.

Crane is now up for parking garage erection. The new prebuilt wood framing that has been sitting on site is now being assembled as well.

Drove by last night and noticed the massive parking garage but it looks like not much has taken place with the residential component. I thought they started rebuilding after the fire but from my foggy memory it looks like they may have restarted what they rebuilt.

Anyone know what's going on?

Also, thank God that the parking garage won't be the most prominent feature of the development (ex-Hanley station).

The wood framing is going up fast now. Post a guard (or two or three).

Because the residents of some 200 apartments will find that nice.

Well, I think when it's all finished the garage will be (largely) hidden. The developers probably (and probably rightly) thought that their product would be more marketable with a parking garage. At least it's not right on the street.

I love the fact that Doug thinks everything related to automobile transportation is bad.

I would much rather see a partially hidden parking garage than another surface lot.

Another boring, flat, asphalt-shingled roof. Why can't developers these days buck-up for some decent looking roof tiles? Nothing cheapens the look of an entire building quicker than a roof like a suburban garage.

developers typically build what will lease or sell. the market tells them if a tile roof will be a good investment or bad.. it's called a market study..

so my guess is they needed parking and a cheap roof to make it work..

I got no problem with the parking garage (I was comparing the new roof covering with what you find on a suburban garage). I just can't believe that on a multi-million dollar project like this, they can't scrape up a few thousand more for a descent looking roof. But then, I've never had to finance anything like this, so what do I know? I'm just sayin'.

In this particular case, I don't think the shingles are going to matter. I really don't think you are going to be able to see the roof of this building, except from a distance, unless you live in the mid-rise apartment building across and down the street a bit, the Fairmont? Fremont? Whatever...

I'm just happy they designed this thing up to the sidewalk, and didn't try and put in some mini lawn or *shudder* parking for the retail.

BTW, have their been any announcements, rumors, etc. about what is going into the ground floor retail space?

Couldn't agree more! Projects like this really add to the density and walkability of a street. I look forward to seeing this project complete.
