I did some rough estimates when the Boeing strike occurred. The impact was about 1.25-1.75 jobs in manufacturing and transportation support jobs regionally per Boeing job. Means 8.75K to 12.25K jobs would be created by 7K new Boeing jobs.DogtownBnR wrote:If I'm not mistaken, I heard on Fox 2 this morning that the program could create 7K new jobs. Anyone heard numbers like that? If so, that is amazing news for the region. I would assume there will be many more jobs created from the other programs, suppliers & companies servicing this massive operation.
Great win for STL!!! Keep in mind that, just a couple years ago, there were real fears of the Hazelwood operations shutting down - especially after Boeing lost out on the new long-range bomber program that went to Northrup Grumman with their B-21 Raiders. And as @soulardx pointed out above, the lost JSF bids. Fast forward, and we have the two new 6th Gen fighters - the F/A-XX and the NGAD - plus the F-15EX, plus the eT-7A, plus the final runs on the F/A-18 and the E/A-18G, as well as the MQ-25 being built at Mascoutah. It's a full 180, with billions worth of new construction at STL, and decades worth of employment ahead.
Fantastic news for our community!
The video of the Christmas tree shaped plane captured in June from Area 51 is likely related to this project. Can't wait to see these lighting out of Lambert.

This is huge news! Can't ask for better news. With suppliers and military folks coming to STL in droves to conduct business; I can't wait for the new airport is up and running. Heck. this may bring us more international flights!
General sentiment online is that it is noteworthy to have this many planes in production in one place. Given the complexity, I imagine this has to increase the likelihood of more corporate jobs coming with this.
The drone question is one that has long been interesting to me. I've felt for quite a few years now that drones, and especially autonomous drones, were going to utterly reshape warfare in much the same way as aircraft did before them. But one thought I cannot completely escape is that the shape of warfare in Ukraine, including drone warfare, would be completely different if one side or the other were able to achieve aerial supremacy, and the Iran war seems to bear that out. Iran has no shortage of drones, but the effects that they are able to achieve with them have been considerably less impressive since they don't have a way to challenge US air supremacy. They haven't been completely impotent. They're still a threat. But all their drones have been unable to keep US aircraft out of Iranian skies or US ships out of Iranian coastal waters. I much suspect that drones in combination with other assets are the answer. I believe it's the new combined arms. Tanks work better with infantry. Infantry with air support. And so forth. I believe the same is true of drones.moorlander wrote: ↑4:34 PM - Sep 30And how much longer should our planes require a pilot? And with the success of all types of drones, can we compete with an adversary able to reliably produce nearly 10mil FPV drones per year and 50k attack drones per year?
Anyway, I think your point illustrates how important our alliance with Ukraine will be going forward. They know how to build and develop drones better than perhaps anyone else right now. China produces many more, of course, but it takes them a lot more people to do it. And they aren't developing new ones as quickly. Or learning how to employ them as creatively. (Though they are absolutely learning vicariously, just as we are.) Russia and Iran, of course, are also both getting real experience here. But we need Ukraine's experience, and we need to do everything we can to keep them in the fight.
The very last country we want to continue an alliance with is our proxy Ukraine. Just look at how many Billions the Zelenskyy regime has stolen from us, the us tax payers. Ukraine was and still is the most currupt country in Europe, if not the whole world. And It will soon be a landlocked rump state.
Ukraine has zero technologies that were not at least co developed and manufactured by western states. And all of the targeting is provided by us in the west, primarily the CIA.
Keeping them in the fight only guarantees a more dead Ukrainians and a worse deal at their eventual compilation.

^Lol, you hit all the Russian talking points! Good job!
In the real world, Russia is losing assets at an incredible pace and the Ukrainian drone attacks deep inside Russia are pushing them to the negotiating table.

^ You cannot be serious. Zero of what you said is true. If you’d like I could rattle off a dozen reasons why Ukraine won’t win, can’t win, and isn’t winning. But I don’t think this is the forum.
Everything I said is 100% true and verifiable. Maybe stop getting your news from Fox News, The Telegraph, and think tanks like The Institute for the study of war. There is a whole lot of independent news sources out there that are unbiased.

Boeing conversations on UrbanSTL should keep to the company’s local economic development. This is a niche social media. If you want to discuss different wars go to a general social media, X or Reddit

OK, but at what cost is Russia going to win? Russia has only advanced 6KM since taking Bakhmut. We’re talking about a country of heroine addicted HIV patients that’s already staring down the barrel of a demographic apocalypse. They’re at 1.5MM casualties. At the current rate of advance this war is going to kill everyone in Russia.moorlander wrote: ↑2:01 PM - Today^ You cannot be serious. Zero of what you said is true. It’s also worth noting that Ukraine repelled the Russian invasion before the US provided any aid.

War and the deaths of people in far off countries are inherently tied to this thread and Boeing's local economic development whether you like it or not. It is a reality that people die in service of our "economic development".addxb2 wrote:Boeing conversations on UrbanSTL should keep to the company’s local economic development. I have no love for Russia, nor any ties to Russia. But I could write a thesis on the falsehoods tropes and Russiaphobia in some of these posts. But I’ll take that discussion somewhere elsewhere. You've objectively engaged with and used pro-Russia language that could be taken straight from RT. Additionally, history shows us that appeasing imperialist dictators by allowing victory and ceding sovereign land to them reinforces their expansionist desires. No one forced Russia to illegally invade Ukraine, it is Ukraine's moral right to repel that invasion and in a rare case, the US and broader west is justified in supporting a country being illegally invaded. Russia could stop tomorrow, and this war certainly cannot be described as succesful for Russia by any stretch of the imagination.moorlander wrote:I have no love for Russia, nor any ties to Russia. The lives lost are horrific, but those lives are not on Ukraine or the US (for once).

Thank you for hitting all the Western talking points. You act like this “war” started in 2022. If you truly believe that well that’s where I’d suggest you begin educating yourself.StlAlex wrote:You've objectively engaged with and used pro-Russia language that could be taken straight from RT. There was an agreed upon terms in April 2022 that would have prevented all of this until that clown Boris Johnson derailed it. Him and Zelensky have the blood of millions on their hands.
1. The only illegitimate dictator in this war is Zelensky. There is zero evidence that Putin has imperialistic aspirations.
2. I suggest you read or look into Scott Horton’s wonderful book “Provoked”
3. Educate yourself self on western backed the Maidon Coup in 2014 and Ukraines shelling and killing 14,000 Russian speakers.
4. Why was Ukraine persecuting and killing Russia. Speakers and banning the Russian language, books etc?
5. Research the Minsk agreements and Merkel’s later admission the west never intended on honoring any of the terms but used that agreement to arm Ukraine and bring their massive army up to nato standards.
“Former German Chancellor Merkel admits the Minsk agreement was merely to buy time for Ukraine’s arms build-up”
That should be a good start for you.
^ Again, nice job getting all those Kremlin talking points out there. You act as if all of this started in 2014 while the reality is Russia has been plundering Ukraine's resources and murdering their citizens for a hundred + years. This is nothing but a land grab by a power-hungry Putin but he's clearly overstepped and now has to try and hold on to power while the country bleeds out.
"There is zero evidence that Putin has imperialistic aspirations."
“Peter the Great waged the great northern war for 21 years. It would seem that he was at war with Sweden, he took something from them. He did not take anything from them, he returned [what was Russia’s]. Apparently, it is also our lot to return [what is Russia’s] and strengthen [the country]. And if we proceed from the fact that these basic values form the basis of our existence, we will certainly succeed in solving the tasks that we face.”

How many imperialistic wars has Vladdy started or exacerbated? Chechnya x2, Ukraine x2, Georgia, Syria. Yeah, he’s a real choir boy.
There is so much evil crap you can pin on the United States, but protecting people from Vladimir Putin is not one of them.

I love it when out of one side of the mouth people spew “Ukraine is winning, “Russia’s economy is on the brink, “Russia isn’t the 2nd best military in the world, it’s the the 2nd best in Ukraine,” and “Kiev in 3 days” are at the same time stoning fear in all of the west that “Russia is coming for (Insert any European country here) next. The only ones stoking a full European war are our NATO and EU partners who keep screaming that Europe need to prep for a full on war with Russia in 2030.
Is Russia on the brink of collapse or the massive imperialistic power with its eyes on everything west to the coast of Portugal.

States on the brink of collapse go to war all the time. Like Russia did in 1914.moorlander wrote: ↑5:03 PM - TodayI love it when out of one side of the mouth people spew “Ukraine is winning, “Russia’s economy is on the brink, “Russia isn’t the 2nd best military in the world, it’s the the 2nd best in Ukraine,” and “Kiev in 3 days” are at the same time stoning fear in all of the west that “Russia is coming for (Insert any European country here) next. What would we do in Russia’s situation? (Research the Cuban missile crisis and the Monroe Doctrine) These are neighboring countries all within Russia’s sphere of influence. How many tens of Billions have we sunk into NGO’s to destablalize those countries. Look no further than the Middle East.JaneJacobsGhost wrote:How many imperialistic wars has Vladdy started or exacerbated? Chechnya x2, Ukraine x2, Georgia, Syria. Yeah, he’s a real choir boy.

Two things can be true at the same time. Russia's economy can be a raging dumpster fire and Putin could strike out at NATO in a desperate effort to drum up nationalistic support in the motherland.
Was it or was it not wrong for Russia to invade Ukraine?moorlander wrote:What would we do in Russia’s situation?
