Big loss for the Grove, one of my favorites.
So far in the last week or two the Hanley corridor just south of 64 has had the following places close:
- Noodles & Co.
- Penn Station
- Buffalo Wild Wings
Surprised by Noodles and Co. but the other two are garbage. Jersey Mikes ascension meant Penn Stations demise and BWW hasn’t been a real product for 5 years.
Ouch, those are all pretty close to me. Sounds like the sale of O'Connell's has fallen through. They're planning on closing in March.
To sound like a pure hater here, I'm kinda sick of O'Connell's sob story on closing. I absolutley do not wish it was closing but I only have so much money to spend at restaraunts.
99% of all restaurants have a shelf life. O'Connell's no longer has any comparative advantage.
I bet somebody jumps in & buys it at some point. This spot would be better as a drinking pub, but who knows if there is any money in that any longer. A buyer should convert it into a bar & use upstairs space for residential.
The owner in the Facebook post says the sale didn’t fall through but that it wouldn’t close until Q1. This just seems like a way to drum up some end of era business.

the owner is very good at drumming up media coverage. this is like the 4th round of local stories on how it's closing.

FWIW - Tenderloin Room, for the $$$$$ price, has been rather mid in my last few visits. Yea SOHA fell off a cliff. Not surprising at all that it's closing.
