Or tear down only tree blocks for the Arch and museum. But the goal was to tear down the riverfront. What to do with it could be figured out later

I’ve always wondered how much cooler it would’ve been if it rose up out of a dense area of the brick warehouses and cast iron buildings. But that’s wasn’t in the urban renewal recipe
Knowing St. Louis it probably would have been in disrepair and abandoned.delmar2debaliviere2downtown wrote: ↑Sep 07, 2025I’ve always wondered how much cooler it would’ve been if it rose up out of a dense area of the brick warehouses and cast iron buildings. The riverfront was destroyed about 10 years before the design contest.

Wow, QuikTrip in Spanish Lake the site of the sold Powerball winner!

The Missouri History Museum shines a light on Mill Creek Valley, once a bastion of Black culture and community."

Apparently both of these articles, by STL writer Valerie Schemp Hahn, are scheduled for this Sunday's edition.

Saw the movie Soul on Fire at the Chase. It is set and entirely filmed in St. louis, not too bad of a movie and really fun to see all the locations it was shot at.

Here's one of those What The Heck articles that popped up on my Yahoo feed. I have no idea what kind of media platform "Islands" is, but here ya go:
"Tourists Should Avoid This Dangerous Neighborhood When Visiting St. Louis"

How is it profitable to produce this kind of article?
AI means the cost to produce is nothing. Zero cost to produce a few cents through clicks multiplied by infinity articles.

If the cost is really that small, the Explore StL should invest in a propaganda initiative to just flood the internet with positive StL stories
St Louis cited along side Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Washington DC as examples of cities with failed urban renewal efforts in the 20th century:

We are getting a lot of legitimate “foodie” and dining acclaim and national press lately. Could a regional org make any move to get Michelin to come? I think the whole concept is overrated since the cities that have all the michelin restaurants are just where Michelin decides to do a guide (which heavily concentrates their restaurants) but hey it would be big press. I’ve said this about getting an apple maps guide - it’s just good exposure every. time someone pulls up maps and there are St. Louis level cities on there
I do recall listening to this STLPR interview last year that was pretty good opinion on michelin stars. Sounded like a lot of marketing pay to play. Link: https://www.stlpr.org/economy-business/ ... elin-stars
I think you have a better opportunity with a really good YouTube series, paid placement of ads, etc. That's where the eyes are now and there's a lot of opportunity with authentic storytelling.

I 100% think it’s a marketing pay to play. There’s a reason they are only in certain cities with large tourism departments. Same stuff goes with every “traveler list” rankings - these city tourism departments just fund and flood these publications to make sure they make it.bwcrow1s wrote: ↑Oct 24, 2025I do recall listening to this STLPR interview last year that was pretty good opinion on michelin stars. These sort of pubs/lists exist in every market segment. Ours is niche medtech and we have them for everything.
A genuinely positive article about the Arch in today's Chicago Tribune: Majesty of the Gateway Arch deserves celebration
(Since there's a paywall, here's a pic of the print version, sorry for the crappy quality- a friend in Chicago sent this to me.)

The Arch really is perfect.
I often imagine how I would tweak the design of various buildings to improve them, but with the Arch I wouldn't change a thing.
