Funny - monitoring for STLtoday comments. Sort of a Talk Soup. Comment Soup---Bring us the lunatic highlights so we don't have to wade into the mud ourselves.

Went to the Galleria today. The signs and pictures are still very impressive however I have seen no progress on this. There is dirt and some scarce equipment but no signs that building has begun. Anyone know when they are finally going to start the digging and lay the groundwork? I sure hope it continues.

^ Moorlander's date for the Nordstrom Galleria opening is consistent with everything I've heard and read so far.

Nordstrom pushed back the opening not long after the economic meltdown in late 2008, not just here, but also new stores in Nashville and Las Vegas, so it makes sense that construction might not begin for a few more months.

Opens September 23. This new store will be considerably SMALLER than the small Location under the dove.

You really think it's going to be smaller? I haven't driven by lately to compare... Was the Lord and Taylor site that was there prior pretty small too? I never went to the Galleria when I was a lot younger as it wasn't convenient from South County.

I was hoping for a larger store.........

25% smaller. 193,000 vs 144,000 sq ft.

Nordstrom has been building smaller stores for the past five years. Most of their stores built recently have been in the 140,000 - 160,000 square feet range.

While the Galleria store will be smaller than West County, it will be far more upscale and one of the few Nordstrom stores in the country to have designer boutique stores built in with Jimmy Choo, Marc Jacobs and Burberry boutiques.

Agreed that smaller isn't necessary a bad thing.
IMHO, the West County store is almost *too* open in spots. I'm not suggesting stuff should be crammed in there like your average TJ Maxx, but it seems that the same amount of merchandise could be nicely displayed in a smaller footprint.

This sucks.

This location is closing this summer.

I was just at the Galleria the other day.  I was commenting on how most of the stores seem to have tenants (unlike South County).  Looks like West County remains open.  I am not confident they will get another department store.

The rumors are d*cks Sporting Goods is already taking the lease over.

It may be well occupied, but it has a lot of independent (non-national chain) tenants which pay lower lease rates and on shorter terms.  First sign of some difficulty.
d*cks would probably be a good replacement.

This looks to be the end of a 15-year lease for Nordstrom.  The Apple Store's 15 years will be up this fall... something to keep an eye on.

That store is always busy. I don't see how they could close it and dump the load all on a single store at West County Mall.

I actually emailed Galleria property management directly upon hearing this news and I suggested trying to court either Primark or Belk.

Nordstom has closed many stores since 2023. Coming off Wall Street and returning to private family this summer is also time for them.to trim.the fat. They closed 2 metro Boston stores and both of those stores are also going to be d*cks. Interesting.

I also think their demographic has moved away from shopping Galleria. The few times I have been there over the last number of years it seem like lots of young people. Plus, rumors of fights and robberies cause others to shop elsewhere.

PostJun 28, 2025#94

The Galleria opening was the thing that started the decline of St. Louis Center, many of their exclusive stores moved out west making coming downtown less of an attraction.

The parking garage of the Galleria ALWAYS smells like weed. I've lost count of the number of times I've had cars drive by me while walking reeking of it or seen/smelled people hot boxing in their cars while they're parked.

Brookfield giving a hard look at high rise residential. It’s worked in Indy at Circle.

Not eliminate a St. Louis location, but create a stand alone store, where they could dictate location, size and experience, and have a more prominent on-street visibility. Not dependent on mall traffic or co-tenancies.

Because impaired driving is dangerous and illegal.

They already have Dick's Sporting Goods lined up as a tenant so I think writing the Galleria's obituary is a bit premature.
