Essentially their first location inside 270. I would think it would do well.

Slight addendum though...I will say. No, the Galleria will not just whither and die with the loss of Nordstrom. But, we should realistically expect a major shift in tenant caliber...if the co-tenancy clauses of other other luxury goods stores kick in. Often times, smaller format stores who depend on the consumer base of a high-end big marquee tenant have these co-tenancy clauses written into their leases. So that in the case the major anchor decides to leave...they then have bartering power to either negotiate cheaper rent or straight up terminate the lease before its end, as their presence there was contingent on the presence of the anchor.

I would not be shocked at all if we saw the likes of Banana Republic...North Face... Lacoste.. Eddie Bauer, etc close shop in the wake of this. What you could see, is an opportunity for more bargain based retailers that may be new to this market to open shop. Time will only tell though.

A D*cks Sporting Goods better than a dead anchor space.

In a way I would have liked to see Von Maur escape that Lake St. Louis space at that dying mall and take over the Nordstrom anchor.

The Galleria is doing fine. It is far more upscale than the malls that have gone bye bye. The top three malls are Galleria, Frontenac and West County. The other Metro malls left are all going to fail slowly as did Crestwood, Chesterfield, Northwest Plaza, The Mills and Jamestown.  This is a national trend.

As for any new department stores that could "move into the metro" would be an additional Von Maar (one in Lake STL) or a Belk (only Missouri location in Branson).  There really is no others.  We have Nordstoms West CO, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. (All of which are only in STL and nowhere else in MO).

Overall, Nordstroms is thinning their stores... taking shoppers into one flagship store in of their Metro areas.

The parking garage of the Galleria ALWAYS smells like weed. I've lost count of the number of times I've had cars drive by me while walking reeking of it or seen/smelled people hot boxing in their cars while they're parked.
Who cares?
Because impaired driving is dangerous and illegal.
Interesting. Your initial post mentioned nothing of vehicle safety and seemed to suggest annoyance that people were smoking weed generally. Which of course would be a silly thing to complain about in 2025

Nobody cares if people smoke but the smell is a nuisance. Can smell it a mile away.

Mid Rivers Mall is still hanging on, definitely some noticeable vacancy, but I think they are actually well positioned for the future. Not a lot of competition in their neck of the woods.

St. Clair Square is actually doing pretty well also. There might be some economic headwinds eventually, but they are right by one of the few areas on the east side that is experiencing growth.

Neither mall is particularly large or has very fancy stores, but I think both will be in decent shape for at least the medium term future.

^ There was an article a month or so ago in either the P-D or Biz journal on a possible partial conversion  of South County Mall to residential. Anyway, it stated that St. Clair Square is doing pretty well, and iirc West County Mall was mentioned as being the strongest. Though that may have been just for malls owned/managed by that particular entity.

Just for clarity, Dick's House Of Sport (the store that's going into the Galleria) is a bigger / slightly more higher end or elevated version of a regular DSG. There's only like 20 or so in the US and they have rock climbing walls, multiple golf simulators, cages to test bats and whatnot.

There's a Dick's House Of Sport in Tampa that I've driven by but never been in. It's the shopping mall by the airport and it looks from the outside like they took an old Macy's over.

I have a House of Sport near me - not sure if it's a HoS thing, or all Dick's at this point - but I really don't like that they don't have shoes out to try on.  Everything has to go through an ordering kiosk & then a worker has to bring it out to you.

The proposed plan for the sort of Dick's sporting goods store is great
Regarding Bealls I from time-to-time shop at a Bealls B&M and I think a great location for one would be a vacated At Home  store (or similar) at 13907 Manchester
Bealls frequently occupies similar strip mall locations
