Stacked Burger taking over Pi space on Euclid.  Guessing potential opening delay on account of the Tornado.
that corner is in some sort of no/little progress time warp...
Regarding Stacked, i'll believe it when I see it. Stacked was announced many months ago and there's been virtually no change to the building.

Session burned 3 years ago.  The interior has looked the same - 75% rehabbed - for nearly a year.

^Agreed on Session, don't understand what the hold up seems to be, they've been perpetually featured on that coming soon restaurants list from STL mag. However, in the last couple of weeks I have noticed change on the indoors of the place, so perhaps things are finally moving.

I also wonder why the llewelyn's space has seen no movement the last few years. It's really pathetic that that was where they started but now all their locations are in the suburbs.

I miss Llewelyn's so much. It was my CWE go to.

Session has table and chairs in. Once the rehab / remediation was done the interior has come together in a few months.

I'm not trying to be some argumentative web forum weirdo, but save the dinosaur moving around a bit, it's looked basically the same for a year.  I've chatted with the guys working on it many times in the past year. I've heard "we'll be opening soon" many times. In March, I was told "we'll be open by Cinco De Mayo."  yet, here we are....I no longer ask.

to be sure, I just want it open!!

The Sports Bra, a Portland-based bar and restaurant that exclusively shows women's sports, is planning to open in St. Louis. A location has not been decided yet.

This should be in the city, Maplewood, University City, Kirkwood, or Webster Groves. I fear that it'll fail if it's not in one of these areas.

The non-reliable word on the CWE street is that Session Taco will open next week.  If I hadn't heard similar things for a year+, I'd believe it.

Stacked also has a "coming soon" banner outside. I set their over/under opening date as Oct. 15.

Well, this is certainly good news:
Tee Rak will open its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in the former SweetArt Bakeshop & Café space in Shaw.

Hoping for July opening, and Sweet Art expanded to a place in the Foundry and other loc to the Coronado by SLU.

Looking forward to trying this place.

just saw that the Downtown Hooters has closed.  no idea who actually goes to these places anymore but I suspect the STLBJ will have a large story on the closing soon.  Downtown's struggles drive clicks.

Yeah it's not a big loss, per se, but a loss is a loss and there is now one less bar and restaurant open downtown so overall a negative.  I was actually there a few weeks ago after not going for like 15 years and it seemed somewhat busy.  It was nice to grab a beer and a bite after 10 PM - not a ton of places still open that offer that.

Apparently they closed like 10 other locations as well. The Breastaurant industry just isn’t what it once was.

The loss is loss of a well known brand restaurant that will most likely now sit empty for the foreseeable future. In terms of food or culture, not much was lost. Still a net negative though.

Looks like they also closed locations in Memphis, Tallahassee, and Jacksonville as well. Part of their restructuring from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

It means another inactive space along the perimeter of the illustrious, grand Gateway Mall.

Turns out the breastaurant business is a bust.

They also closed other downtown locations like Memphis, Atlanta, Jacksonville and Cincinnati's riverfront.

Kind of surprised at the Atlanta Hooters. I've stayed at the Westin across the street and that one was always pretty busy. Seemed to have good dine-in crowd and a TON of Door Dash/Uber Eats business. Like all day long drivers were coming and going.

Does it also mean we can just tear down those garages now?

These garages are such an embarrassment right on the front porch of our city. The west garage is now completely vacant outside of the Enterprise kiosk. The East Garage has Chase bank, Chili Mac's, and a print shop. All major restaurant spaces are now vacant.

What is the hold up with getting these leased? Why doesn't the owner spruce the place up to attract more tenants? Can political pressure be added to get this problem moving in the right direction?

I think I'm a pretty positive St. Louis person, but it's stuff like those garages that make the Gateway Mall a wholly underwhelming experience.

The effort and investment that St. Louis puts into the land surrounding the Mall and the national park is embarrassing. It's mostly dead space and parking garages.

I may be alone in this, but I honestly think I'd tear up the majority of the Gateway Mall west of City Garden. Serra Sculpture Park, Poelker Park, and Memorial Plaza would be marketed to developers. I'd leave Aloe Plaza in front of Union Station alone, but the rest would be fair game.

^I tend to agree, although I don't know that there's much demand to build new residential mid/highrises in the area considering how many empty lots and vacant buildings there are Downtown.

I agree as well, I think you need NYC-like density to justify a over one mile east-west park in the middle of downtown.  Since we clearly do not have that, it creates several small islands around downtown that make it necessary to walk several blocks when trying to get to another island.  And the garages just add to that.  I am all for tying all of downtown together, which in my opinion means we should target anything west of City Garden for development, but also other areas like the dead space in the Peabody Plaza block (just south of the building along Market), the dead space just west of the Bank of America building, the Shannon building, and yes, the garages.  Restaurants and retail cannot be successful if they are the only shop within a few blocks.  I think we are a long way from tearing down the Kiener garages, but at least with some added density around them, it could potentially justify more restaurants and retail.

Isn't there a Jimmy John's in there too?
