That's sobering.

Anyone else think Hampton north of Arsenal is one of the saddest stretches of stroad in the City? Zero plan for it.  It's just vehicularly utilitarian at this point.

^Oh yeah, ever since they demo'd bradburn's for that QuickTrip it just looks like nonstop pavement. I gotta hope that apartment building next to Wendy's survives though I can't imagine it'd be easy getting a good night's sleep living there.

Yea, not our brightest spot in the city. It’s pretty inevitable when you inexplicably run two interstates parallel to each other. There’s literally no reason to have designed for both of those two interstates in the same area, one of the more atrocious overbuilding examples in the country. Hampton, Kingshighway, Grand, and Jefferson between 64 and 44 suffer because of it.

^That is the absolute truth. 64 doesn't bother me quite as much since it's so close to the railroad tracks and Mill Creek Valley where there's always been something of a natural divide anyway, but allowing 44 so close to it really left the area between them completely widowed from everything.

Wow, took me down memory lane with the street view.

When was the green median installed? Seems like just continuing this north and pulling that extra north bound lane would go a long way.

"The Breakfast Corner" is now open I believe at 5213 Hampton Ave.

Was formerly a medical office. Much better being a breakfast restaurant imo. The medical office was kinda a black hole.

Plug time:  Went to Sydney Street last night for the 1st time in over a decade.  Incredible experience, great atmosphere and the food was creative and amazing.  Surprisingly, reasonably priced for high-quality, high-end food and experience.  I was incredibly happy to see this mainstay doing so well.  Shame on us for not getting back there sooner.

Owners of Little Fox in the Fox Park neighborhood to open second restaurant across the street at 2805 Shenandoah.

It will be called Sur Lie Wine and Eatery. It'll have less than 800 square feet of indoor seating, outdoor seating, and around 15 employees.

The space was most recently occupied by Wood Shack, which closed in May 2024 and Twisted Ranch before that.

Viviano's is closing on The Hill on May 3, 2025.

This place has meant a lot to my family for many years. I'll be very sad to see them go. 

Seems like DiGregorio's has been running up the score on them for a while, especially considering they're planning an expansion. 

If I understand the articles correctly, Viviano's is selling to someone with plans and they say that the "neighborhood is in good hands."

DiGregorios also has a wholesale business that does very well.

Love Vivianos, great dry pasta deals and outstanding service. Will never forget how they would roll around a grocery cart giving out beers on the busiest days for shoppers waiting in line. Definitely a place that makes the Hill what it is as a top Italian American neighborhood in the country. They still were always busy at the times you would expect them to. I would assume someone might keep it, or a very close concept, going.

Viviano's won't say what the space's next use will be yet, as I'm sure deals and such need to be completed, but, like I said above, they say the neighborhood "is in good hands."

My hope is that the space doesn't sit vacant for two or three years, or longer, before finding its new use.

Viviano’s means a lot to my family. Tons of great memories affiliated with that store. Hopefully the spirit of Viviano’s lives on in the new use.
