She ran on the same platform in 2021. Let me check.... yep, still vacant.

So, was the problem bigger than her political statements or was she bad at the job?
North City saw $700,000,000 in building permits from 2021-2024

And from 2017-2020 it saw $303,000,000

So not sure what you’re point is, the payoff of that increased investment comes next. There is also another $100-150m in north city housing production programmed
Weren’t a majority of those permit dollars the NGA?
I don’t think the NGA has city building permits because the Feds do their own thing.

Federal and state governments do not get permits as they aren’t required to build according to city requirements

Some people don’t understand what the term gaslighting actually means.

Jones ran on knowing how to reverse decades of disinvestment. Was the problem bigger than her political statements or was she bad at the job?
The facts literally show that North City got significantly more investment under her term than the previous mayor. You are trying your best to ignore those facts to still make the case that Jones was "bad at the job" despite the election being over.

Now you're getting upset at legitimate criticisms being raised about your person, and you can't handle it, so you have to constantly defect back to the previous mayor and gaslight.

It's ***** obnoxious.

I never suggested that North City didn't see more build permit value. I stated that Jones made a bold campaign promise, similar to "back to basics" shared by Cara Spencer. As far as I recall, the vast majority of people gave Jones time to settle and make changes before scrutinizing her campaign promise. Excluding right wingers. If the city services story line never existed, she probably would've won with that promise again. She was delivering.

My point is that nothing shared has been legitimate criticism given the administration is just two weeks in and has been handed at least one headline blindside. I have no reason to trust Meghan Green nor the Jones appointed Treasurer as to whether Cara Spencer is a good leader right now.

She’s known since January that she’s going to be Mayor and she’s known for years that she’s going to fire Neal the first chance she gets. So how does she not have something better lined up yet?

Little birdy from inside City Hall once told me "if you think Jones is bad, [Spencer] would be so much worse."

I didn't quite realize it would be as blatant as not having a plan about the police lawsuit and appointing a retired dude from the Slay/Krewson years to lead SLDC for who knows how long.

Hopefully it all works out.

If the new people aren't schooled in how to let 80k in cash go missing from the city tow lot office I'm cool with that.

The people running the tow lot a month ago are the same people running it today and tomorrow and next year.  the mayor cannot get rid of the commissioner of the towing division

$80k is nothing in the grand scheme of fraud and corruption! Peanuts…

Im excited for Spencer to hopefully take us in a new direction in terms of getting city services working really well/going back to basics.

If the whole strategy is "Rehire everyone who worked here in 2019 when crime was much worse and our budget was much worse" I become less excited.

To add, I don’t necessarily see this as a bad thing. It can be a good thing. It will be rough to start but they should do as much as possible to get away from previous ways of doing things. Couple other people have said that her younger staff is trying to push out the older influences like Rainford and Mayor Vince

DB, we were talking about this way upthread and I don't think we found the answer, so I'll ask it again:

Who can fire the commissioners? Based on my brief scroll of the Charter, it seems like it varies, but I could never find a firm answer for any of them. Not asking you to do homework but maybe you have a little birdy in the City Counselor's Office that has a ready response?

Seems "the way City government works" doesn't actually work, so I wish them luck fixing it. I'm familiar with Rainford through my employer and can say with 100% confidence his primary objective is to ensure that "the way City government works" continues to not work for anyone but our corporate overlords.

To be fair... same was said about the Jones admin at the start and continued for 4 years.
