Certainly interesting timing.

Either Jones already had a solution incoming or Spencer pulled strings as an alder.

Nice.  Did see Spencer say they would soon come down in an interview yesterday

You certainly hope this isn’t the Jones administration sabotaging anything but it’s an odd coincidence.

I mean it’s obviously meant to undercut Cara, but who cares? I’m just glad the fences are down.

I want everything done right now! Everything you promised! Everything that you talked about doing! Everything that you alluded to doing!
Whether it's Jones or Spencer I want it done right now!

And I'm going to have a continual tantrum until you do what you said you would do!

I’ve asked 2 workers. One said order came from this admin and one said it’s from the upcoming admin. One by the city hall fences and another that was secure the muni courts fences (which are staying in place).

I wish they actually had done some work on the park while having the signs up and fences.

The best way to avoid camps in the parks downtown is to add amenities. I am hoping that makes some movement. We have such an opportunity right there to make a livelier downtown and certainly avoid people setting up shop.

Hopefully the next time signs are up, there is actual enhancement going on

A little surprised how little staff was announced. She starts Tuesday.

PostApr 14, 2025#1612

St. Louis Police Major Shawn Dace will be the Public Safety Director. Dace was in charge of a patrols for the neighborhoods alder Spencer had, so I guess that’s connection but idk if this is the best pick for the huge job, there are multiple higher ranked SLMPD options.

Rest of the picks today are announced as interim like director of operations, Robert Herleth as interim chief operating officer. Herleth is a former Missouri Botanical Garden executive. Nancy Cross was director of operations for Jones. (I guess new admin is calling the position COO. I hope this is a very temporary interim because this is the most important position if city services will improve and a guy getting pulled from retirement seems less then ideal.

He will have a deputy, Julian Nicks as interim deputy chief operating officer. Nicks is the former CEO of the nonprofit coding educator LaunchCode.

Spencer also said Monday that some current members of Jones' cabinet will continue to serve:
Gilberto Pinela, director of the Office of New Americans
Jonathan Strong, interim chief inclusive growth officer
Casey Millberg, director of policy
Rasmus Jorgensen, interim deputy director of communications
Rochelle Pruitt, executive assistant to the mayor
Denise Roberts, executive secretary
Krizia Lopez, workforce innovation and strategy lead.

All in all, I am surprised how little they’ve been prepared to get her own people in key positions. Day 1 is tomorrow

I’ve actually felt the opposite. Probably the best communicated transition when comparing to Krewson and Jones. She’s switched to optimism. She held a stand up presser and I believe her when she says that her approach with the media is going to be different and more transparent. She’s launched an impressive transitions team, website (with feedback opportunity), and she states what her admins priorities are in the first 100 days.

Her choices have been a balance of proven senior leaders and young superstars. All of them already leaders in some respects.

announcing a 74 year old retiree who’s top experience is Vice President of something at botanical garden as the Director of operations, even on interim bases is nuts after running a campaign on improving city services

Bob was an executive before that and has civically served St. Louis in many capacities for decades. He's not flashy but he's well spoken, well intentioned, knows how St. Louis works, and has experience managing people/teams. Spencer likely chose him (74) to onboard a longer-term leader in Julian Nicks (30s).

Curious if anyone thinks Jones will try a political comeback of some sort or move on to another career.

I wonder if Tishaura Jones wants to spend a bunch of her time in Jefferson City, though.

She’s not going to run for state senate but it would be funny if she did and won. Then she would get to sign off on who gets appointed to the state police board

Yeah state senate seems unlikely.

Even when Democrats were more competitive at the state level former STL mayors have rarely tried for other offices.

The last I recall was Vince Schoehmehl running for Gov and failing spectacularly.

I worked in JC during her first tour of MOGA and can confirm she spent as little time there as possible.

She'll end up in NGO land, probably outside of St. Louis.

Mayor Spencer offers some deep reflection and also credits Mayor Jones on putting STL in national spotlight

I disagree. There’s value in keeping the current account due to the 15K followers. Those are people Cara can reach more easily. Plus the continuity from one admin to the next is valuable. It’s helpful to see the comms all in one place.

I think they should make the profile pictures and such neutral. Like the seal of the city and maybe the skyline.

I get why they'd wanna keep it since it has 15k+ followers, but it is very weird looking back just a few days lol. Would be less weird if it was portrayed as a neutral account.
