And yes, I'm happy we are at only 18 murders ytd through mid March.
But let's not pretend that if March 2025 had seen a spike in murders like we saw in Jan.2024 that Auggie would be voting to replace Jones.
It gets pretty annoying to be told that because the murder and violent crime rates have dropped that we can't address other still serious concerns about safety.

Fair enough. It was only noise pollution to me Saturday night as I was walking my dog a good dozen or so blocks from where these brazenly stupid acts were occurring. You're the one who described it as "noise pollution". Not me.
For those closer to where this is happening it's definitely more serious.
.Maybe you've never been at an intersection where these douchebags do this shite.
Consider yourself lucky.
Then again maybe you just think it's part of the urban fabric.
I don't think it's acceptable at all. Even though it's not murder (though it could become that) . And I'm voting for the mayoral candidate who wants the vehicles of those who do this chicanery to be impounded.

Street racing is nothing new. Hampton Ave between Loughborough and Eichelberger (near me) has been a popular drag race destination for literally as long as I can remember going back 10+ years. The routine is you hear the screeching and engine, then maybe 10 minutes later you hear the police sirens, and then it's typically quiet the rest of the night.
So I'm happy that I won't hear it anymore since the magical fix is coming. Remember, you're the one who set these expectations.
Let's just hope that the positive murder and violent crime trends are as given as you seem to think they are though.

My point was it's not given. We had 20 homicides in Jan. 2024.
If the election were in Feb. 2024 would Jones have gotten your vote for a second term?
Be honest.

Its my number one issue... and the reduction is my main reason for voting for Tishaura again... though I still like Cara and I think she'll run the city in a similar manner.Baltimore Jack wrote: ↑Mar 24, 2025My point was it's not given. We had 20 homicides in Jan. 2024.

I like to think of these elections in terms of what are my most important issues I want to be prioritized... and for example for me: Crime > Schools > Addressing population Loss > Housing/Development > City PR & Marketing > Budget...

At the corner of Blair and Bremen, rather large in the heart of Hyde Park.

Speaking of Spencer in North St. Louis, Jones crashed a Spencer rally in Baden.
Apparently just showed up and stood there
Didn't engage.
Take what you will of that

Any Jones fans want to try to defend her party crash tactic?
Who is giving her this terrible advice and why is she taking it? If it was her idea that's even more concerning.

^^
The Spencer campaign says that Jones went around the room and introduced herself to people that were there for Spencer.
There is no way around it; it's a strange strategy for Jones, and one that I don't believe will pan out.
I've been supportive of her, but her actions lead me to believe that she knows she's going to get rolled here in a few weeks.

If it was the mayor's idea someone in her campaign should have told her it wasn't.
If it was an idea from the campaign staff the mayor should have vetoed it.
These aren't dumb people. But they are acting foolishly and spending precious campaign time foolishly.
I know people on here shy away from this but this petty stunt just seems like something Virvus Jones would be behind.

I don’t think this is much of a story other than the fact that it is entertaining.
April 8th is a forgone conclusion and Tishaura knows that. I don’t think she’s going to handle losing in the most professional manner.

Definitely an underdog challenger type move...not something that I'd expect the city's sitting mayor to do. But, desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose.
Who here believes that crime will go up solely as a result of Spencer's hypothetical election to mayor?

a friend of mine in princeton heights had her Cara for Mayor sign stolen from her yard and replaced with a garden gnome holding an american flag crudely drawn on toilet paper. also kind-of entertaining, but mostly just pathetic and undignified.

Apparently she showed up with a city paid security detail, refused to leave when asked, and interrupted the event. People felt intimidated. That is problematic.

I could see a candidate confronting an opponent if they have dodged debates.
But there have been multiple candidate forums attended by both candidates.
So what was Jones reasoning for doing this?

KMOX was all over this today. Every commentator/talk show hosts literally called Tishara's antics "Trump like" "nauseating" "desperate" "childish" "unprofessional" and "intimidating" to name a few.
Callers were also furious.

I live in fear the crime numbers will go up because the state decided to seize the police department and will likely basically hand control to the unions. At this point it probably doesn't even matter who wins. There are other issues of course, but that was a big one.Tim wrote: ↑Mar 25, 2025Definitely an underdog challenger type move...not something that I'd expect the city's sitting mayor to do. The amended bill removed the union aspect of the bill. Now the union seats will be picked by one governor and confirmed by the Senate.symphonicpoet wrote: ↑Mar 26, 2025I live in fear the crime numbers will go up because the state decided to seize the police department and will likely basically hand control to the unions. Police operations are unlikely to be changed very much so long as they keep the current leadership, such as Tracy, in place. So in theory, crime shouldn't go up. However, I'd be more worried about Spencer ending violence prevention programs that Jones has implemented over the years. Hopefully she doesn't though.
Regardless, the city has been lifted of blame for crime so long as the state runs the PD.

Jeez did Jones hire Hillary Clinton's campaign staff this go around?
