South County has plenty of opportunity areas. I just don't know if they have the will.
Yeah it's sad that people here take so much offense to anything said about the city but then go and do the same thing. For how much talk there is on here about 'the only path forward is together' some people seem to relish anything negative about the county or farther west. Not necessarily directed at OP but comments come up somewhat frequently.
Indeed recall the NIMBY outrage over a low income old folks home run by a religious org.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Jun 07, 2024South County has plenty of opportunity areas. I just don't know if they have the will.
Played around with my poor photoshop skills to show what gate assignments could be when airlines move out of A. Will be cool to see the horseshoe full again.

^Even if they did nothing other than that, that alone would be a dramatic improvement. The current mismatch between demand and facilities is . . . bizarre. Is there any other airport in the country that is simultaneously as overcrowded as T2 and as underutilized as T1? This is a great project and I wish them every success.
Not sure where else to mention this, but STL County is working on a 2050 plan, and is accepting community input right now. This is a great chance to advocate for walkability, density, sustainability, and stuff like that to be worked into a physical plan. https://st-louis-county-planning-stlco2050-stlcogis.hub.arcgis.com/pages/get-involvedgoat314 wrote: ↑Jun 07, 2024The county folks are in such denial about this too. NoCo and a lot of SoCo need serious redevelopment. The region has no plan, the county is still on an anti-density agenda like it's the 1970s. It will be interesting to see what the future holds. It's no surprise that St. Charles County is growing like crazy, while everywhere else declines. There is simply not a lot of good options for modern, affordable family housing in St. Louis County anymore.JaneJacobsGhost wrote: ↑Jun 07, 2024Suburban people and interests hold no punches against the City of St. Louis including the airport. When the airlines all move to C & D, will that food court near the lobby and D reopen? I vaguely remember a fairly dirty square room around 2009 that had a Burger King in it that I was able to eat a little bit of breakfast. I could tell at the time that all other food stations were closed. It would be great if that area, should it still exist, would reopen. Anyone know about that?
I haven’t heard any details about retail/food yet. But they are going to have to open stuff up. I ate at the Burger King in 2011, I think it was, when AA was briefly in D after the tornado. It was looking pretty shaggy at the time, but it was a cheap breakfast sandwich before a stupid-early flight, so no complaints. It was sad making that all that was closed the next time I was in C/D. (On the other hand, just after that I spent a few years bouncing between UA and Delta, so . . . my own fault, I suppose. Not that AA is really any better than anybody else, but C/D at least gives me some TWA feels.)NJB1981 wrote: ↑Jun 13, 2024When the airlines all move to C & D, will that food court near the lobby and D reopen? Wonder how that equity group buying a good portion of WN's stock will affect their current ops or future plans in STL, if at all.
IN the late 90s I remember there was a chinese place there (not Panda Express) that I always went to there. And a dark-ish sit-down "sports bar".NJB1981 wrote: ↑Jun 13, 2024When the airlines all move to C & D, will that food court near the lobby and D reopen? @quinng234 I created a thread for this a little while ago under the St. Louis County discussion.quinng234 wrote: ↑Jun 13, 2024Not sure where else to mention this, but STL County is working on a 2050 plan, and is accepting community input right now. I have to believe they will update the former food/bar/concession spots prior to reopening the D concourse once construction is underway - it would be hard to entice travelers to eat or drink in an area that was shuttered and mothballed for nearly 20 years without some basic remodel to clear up and brighten the space in order to bring some options for travelers. The interesting question here will be whether they will use the reopened concourse to bring in existing national/regional fast food chains (ex. Panera, McDonald's, Dunkin', etc.) to fill the former spots or if they will try some interesting pop-up options to create some buzz and variety. Fully aware that this is meant to be temporary but it would be worth trying out some options while we have the means to do so and see what feedback and response we can collect from this to offer a better food/concession experience in the new terminal.

I hope they keep the TWA ascetic when they reopen the terminal. Update the things that need to be updated, but keep the carpet, colors, and lighting. It's temporary, have some fun with it!
For those interested…flew in Tuesday evening, strolled past the grounded China Southern Cargo flight.
Quite a surprise, glad to be home.

^Why? Because it's Chinese? It's just a weather diversion from O'Hare because of the storms the other day, right? Neat to see it at the airport, but I thought this was pretty routine stuff.

China isn’t bad, they just want to takeover the world. And between now and Election Day, they will invade Taiwan.
