hmm.  The narrative is largely against KG but her account makes me question it a bit.  She might be straight up lying of course but it certainly seems like she is giving a honest (from her perspective) account.  The CAs leaving is a big problem and their reviews of her seem less than stellar, but if you were seeing this much pressure how well do you think you might fair in terms of defensiveness, anger, lack of motivation, etc.

So is there an institutional undermining of the office, or is she truly incompetent?  Now I AM hoping for a trial of some kind so that they can establish what is actually true here.

That said the CA needs to function because it has real effects on peoples lives.
If you are throwing everyone below you under the bus, while taking zero blame yourself as the leader,  to the point they are all leaving, that’s a problem. Then to double down and say you don’t care if you are the only one left while also not accepting outside help… to me that’s doing a disservice to you community. They obviously need help. If she accepted outside help while she got things in order I would be more symptomatic and think she actually cares about her community and not just herself.

A good way to alleviate the pressure is to take some blame instead of alienating your staff, then taking anyone up on the offer to help out until you can catch up on caseloads and handle them all again in house. She did the exact opposite of what would take pressure off so that’s on her at this point. She has had plenty of time to re evaluate and change course on things.

^Right. She's been wrecking the office since she joined, but its been a slow burn that's gained pace in the last 6 mos. Again Wesley Bell is instructive. Also black, also a "progressive," elected on basically the same promised reforms and skepticism of the police, etc. And, at first, garnered the same hostility from the StL media and other establishment institutions. But, once in office, Bell quietly went about his business, while Gardner chose to immediately involve herself in the Greitens debacle, which she mishandled top to bottom.  Rather than admitting mistakes and refocusing on the priorities of the office, her response was/is always to double down and/or blame others, first the evil white folks who rule StL and MO, and now her own staff.

I agree that at this point its a disaster.  I tend to think merging the office with the county is the best way to right the boat.  Structurally making the position a appointment instead of directly elected at intervals is another way to ensure continuity of the office as well as being able to remove them whenever removal is warranted rather than wait for the next election cycle.

Getting rid of her may be necessary and there is an argument to be made that we can't afford to wait until the next election.  Still her perspective that she has been undermined in her position by established power brokers is not inconceivable.  Blaming staff however is ridiculous.

As if things weren't bad enough, one of the remaining attorneys in the felony unit was killed in an auto crash last night.

Established power brokers were definitely against her from day one, some of which was no doubt due to race as much as ideology. She's played right into their hands every step along the way.

Lots of rumors flying around she’s going to resign. I find that hard to believe.

This article seems to indicate that she has had discussions about resigning.

One of the most important things about managing people is being their "sh*t umbrella". Your job is to make it so that your employees/underlings/whatever have an easier time getting sh*t done. If there is some obstacle keeping them from doing their job, your job is to clear that out of the way.

KG does not try cases by herself. Her staff does that. KG actively makes it more difficult for her staff She blames her own issues on them, cannot or will not hire or even accept offers of outside help, and has created such a workload issue that her own staff are facing contempt.

There is no justifying what has happened under her leadership.

So where do we go from here? What would be the plan of action to tackle the caseload and get the office back on track ASAP?

PS- I am hearing tomorrow.

I hope you two are correct.

I believe this would go a long way toward restoring some faith in the city.

Apparently her office told multiple local news outlets to come in for her resignation at 2pm, but she no-showed so they're all still waiting for her.

The governor gets to pick her temporary replacement. Apparently, he already has someone picked. That person would presumably get help from the AG's office while they work to recruit the office back to what it should be.

KMOV accidentally posted a 'KIM GARDNER RESIGNS' story, which they have already pulled back.

Sounds like this is going to happen.

At least she's consistent.

Oh geez, is she just trolling them?  I do hope she resigns simply to get past this episode.

I am a little concerned that the governor get to pick the replacement.  I hope he does the wise thing and selects a consensus nominee rather than trying to get a political win here.

I wonder if Jennifer Joyce would do it again and, if so, would the governor appoint her since she was already in that office and knows what it takes.

What if Parsons pulled an epic troll job and appointed Mark McCloskey…..

I jest, but you have to admit that would be epic.

100% merit please. Far too acute situation to be factoring in DEI.
