Depressing but not at all surprising. There is not a reasonable case to be made that she hasn't been horrible at her job. It has nothing to do with her politics and everything to do with her inability to manage the day-to-day responsibilities of her office. But in the end it probably won't matter.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Apr 11, 2023This guy has no chance. The CA is elected on the normal party primary system, it’s in august when the gop votes for presidential nominee, off the bat he would lose 15% of city voters that will vote gop ballot. You cannot beat the progressive/black coalition in a democrat only primary.
I'm choosing to believe this man has as good a shot as any. If nobody better comes along I will fully support him, maybe campaign for him. The city badly needs this issue fixed. I believe enough uber-progs in Tower Grove will be able to screw their heads on straight and vote for a...a....a....gasp, straight white male.
That said, if after everything - we still re-elect KG, then city voters will have spoken very clearly about what their priorities are; and fully deserve the slow disaster they are in.

What more do you need to know this is not working for the good of everyone?

In her resignation letter, Ogurkiewicz outlined several policies and problems that made her job difficult, including the leadership of her former boss, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly M. Gardner. Ogurkiewicz referenced a sentiment she used in closing arguments during murder cases — that bullets don't stop killing people until the perpetrators are convicted.

This was a joke. her town hall, Moderated by her own employee, was another PR stunt and laughable.
Not sure if anyone else saw this, but unreal. "I'm a gangster" is not what I want to hear from my CA.

It's actually a strange compliment to St. Louis that it can thrive in many ways with someone like Tank Gardner in office.
Anything good that happens is DESPITE her presence. She's very lucky to have a built-in bunch of goodness that overcomes her blinding incompetency.

Some of the suggestions put forth by these mayors require more discussion, but I would be in favor of having Wesley Bell serve as the CA for the City and County in a unified district. I am not holding my breath at all at this happening, but it would be one small step towards a more unified metro.

Yeah i think that would be a good end result. Why not just pass it through county council and board of alderman though? I don't love the idea of special laws for St. Louis from the State Legislature.
I agree the rest of the list deserves some thought.

I think you've encapsulated my feelings on it as well. I like combining city and county functions, I don't like the state doing it as a hostile takeover.STLEnginerd wrote: ↑Apr 18, 2023Yeah i think that would be a good end result. I probably would support combining city and county justice systems regardless of the controversy surrounding our CA.

At what point does the Mayor finally take a stand and renounce KG?

I want to know when Kim Gardner is going to be professional enough to see that this isn't working, and that she needs to step down.
Her staff is quitting in droves and landing punches on her on their way out. They're doing this in part because they feel she's thrown them under the proverbial bus in her trial with Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey.
The most recent employee to quit the office has called it a "dumpster fire."

I don't think anyone prominent is still supporting her, but as she's an elected there's not much anyone can do to force the issue
That quote was attributed to Scott Rosenblum.RockChalkSTL wrote: ↑Apr 21, 2023The most recent employee to quit the office has called it a "dumpster fire."

Remind me of when, where and how. I don't recall her saying anything other than "she's lost the trust of the people." one time at the outset of this S#$%show. Given its the single large debacle facing the city, her silence is allowing KG to stick around. I think she is laying low on purpose to not alienate anyone, and in my mind it is a dereliction of leadership to not be more forceful.framer wrote: ↑Apr 21, 2023Mayor Jones did pretty much renounce her.
Above said from a person that thinks Tishaura has done fine as mayor.
"She really needs to do some soul-searching of whether or not if she wants to continue as Circuit Attorney.”
Agreed, it could be much more forceful, but I think that's a pretty solid renouncement.

I did a poor job articulating my disinterest in any of the suggestions as they stand right now beyond unifying the county and city in one court district. I originally had drafted a lengthy post railing at what qualifications these mayors had to to be making policies for solving crime for the entire state (or at least the metro region). However, I felt it came off as angry rambling and reduced the post to just say that these ideas should require more discussion to be considered.Tim wrote: ↑Apr 21, 2023Five white men in positions of power request harsher sentencing, including lifetime mandatory minimum sentences for certain drug dealers. This trashfire is so rancid it is unbelievable. The truly sick thing is that help has been offered from around the region and state. Everything has been turned down.
The logjam is so great that St Louis City no longer has an operating Circuit Attorney's office, effectively. And outside help is turned down.
This is a massive rights violation happening right now. People are sitting in jail unable to get a trial. And outside help is turned down.

I've heard the words banded about: "it's racist it's because I'm black because I'm female its back to the civil war." I'm going to put all that to the side for the moment but not dismissing it's seriousness
What I'm focusing on is what appears to be a small core of supporters that are in concert with Gardner This group is black and older and they are parroting the same script that Ms Gardner is espousing And like it or not older people get out the vote and sway elections
What if the tables were turned on the Gardner supporters ? What if THEIR loved one had been brutally murdered and this office was (stating it mildly) lazy in pursuing justice for their murdered loved one? Would they be holding signs in support of this office? Would they want more YEARS of this office blatantly unable to peruse/prosecute SERIOUS crimes? There are black citizens of the city of St Louis that are still waiting for their black murdered loved ones to have justice served against those that perpetrated heinous crimes.
We need to hear from MORE of them! They need to demand change!
Hopefully the unheard will step up and vote in the needed change

The worst case scenario for Gardner with this state removal process is actually the best case for her. If the state removes here (won’t happen til November) she gets a huge boost because she gets removed from office by a process that’s almost exclusively used for when elected officials commit a crime and don’t resign. This process was never meant to be used for incompetence, it’s irrelevant the level of it, you can make a better argument that the governors incompetence is doing a lot of damage to the state. Anyway, she gets a boost and 8 months of free time to campaign for august primary and not have to deal with the office and the job
Come on. Getting fired from your job because of gross incompetence is never an advantage.

Getting removed from an elected position by an unelected AG of another party is going to be a field day for Gardners campaign.

I was thinking it could be what saves her. Especially when combined with the police control issue is create a narrative of fighting against a state takeover of local government.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Apr 23, 2023Getting removed from an elected position by an unelected AG of another party is going to be a field day for Gardners campaign.
Does make me wonder if this is potentially a larger trend forming of the state playing a larger role in how the City (and potentially the County) is governed and organized?
