Cops probably left it on after a training exercise.

Millennium has never stopped running power to the building since they closed it. They have a local caretaker that’s supposed to keep watch over the property and address any issues. I think they even heat it during the winter months. Not sure though.

I wouldn’t read too much into this.

Probably nothing, but saw some folks & trucks in/out of the gates at Memorial and Spruce this morning.  Who knows.  Yes, probably nothing unfortunately.

I would bet that those rumors are speculation, and that they may have read it from this forum.

That’s been a rumor forever, even among some Enterprise folks I know.  Millennium Hotels recently told the BJ they have no intention of selling the property.  Unless that’s changed nothing is probably happening down there.

Still, I would not be shocked if Enterprise ends up downtown eventually…

Is it fair to guess they could sell that Clayton campus land for a huge profit? Someone could build high end residential townhomes like what's on Gay Ave across. from Shaw Park.

But back to the Millenium: I'm not trying to be negative but I bet it's still crumbling/being banked/un occupied in 2033.

obviously the asia-pacific real estate fund that owns Millennium has no idea how STL property value works.  someone needs to tell them parking lots are where the money is.

I’ve heard from commercial real estate friends that a sale of Enterprise Holdings HQ land would be one of the largest ever in metro STL in terms of $$$$$$$$$$.

The possibilities of that campus are ridiculous, should be an annex of downtown Clayton. Townhouses would be a waste here, should become a high rise, mixed use complex.

Obviously the property is worth mad money and they could probably sell homes there for a pretty penny if they wanted to but with it's location between I-170 and S Brentwood I don't think it would be a particularly nice (quiet) place to live. If it were housing I'd recommend high rise residential with good soundproofing, office is still likely best to put there, though demand is low with work from home and all that.

Some speculation/rumors that a WUSTL related entity is going to buy the site. University denied it but that’s not surprising, people deny things until they’re final all the time

^ Very interesting, thanks for the tidbit.  I wonder what they envision, if true.

Could you literally have a site that adds classroom/downtown mini campus and add some unique student housing at the same time?   About a 2-3 block walk over to metrolink with easy transit access to the Medical School and the main campus as well as Delmar/Loop?   Some interesting thoughts on an out of the box real estate or housing opportunity

The LCRA Board is going to consider blighting and eminent domain. Sounds like something might finally happen.

PD has comment from SLDC and Ald Spencer.

StlToday - St. Louis targets downtown's long vacant Millennium Hotel for redevelopment

A spokeswoman with St. Louis Development Corp., which oversees LCRA, said further details would be provided at Tuesday’s meeting. She declined to comment further.
Alderwoman Cara Spencer, who represents downtown, said she’s pressured SLDC to take action against the owner since she was elected last year.
“Eminent domain is a tool that government entities have at their disposal to rectify situations like this for the greater good,” she said. “I feel strongly that we shouldn’t allow an out-of-town, out-of-country investor to let it languish.”

John Warren of commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield said a mixed-use development is best use for the site: An office development likely doesn’t make financial sense at this time.
“The most demand as of today is apartments,” Warren said.

Both buildings are beyond repair and would be demolished, correct?

If it does get torn down I really hope they rebuild Clark st through it, too many superblocks down there.

If they rebuild it, I agree that I'd like to see Clark St. built through the parcel.

I'd also like to see more engagement with the national park side of the building. None of the buildings along Memorial Dr. seem to know that the Archgrounds are right there.

Would like to see Clark go through + a ped bridge crossing the highway diagonally to the south and connecting with the Gateway Arch Trail. Would be a great way to connect the Ballpark with future activity in Chouteau's Landing.

My last time in there was summer 2012 - and it looked horrible then. Always thought this was built on the cheap, low floor to floor heights, awful parking garage, the arms of "garden" units that looked like an interstate motel.

Just going to throw out that I would love to see this building be saved. The lobby space facing the Arch, the massive underground ballroom, the tunnel under 4th street, the region's only revolving restaurant (which probably still works), the fact there's a building on top of one of the wings, the south oval atrium, the bus loading entrance on Memorial Dr; all make this building a quirky mess that's difficult to renovate and/or repurpose but it's also what makes for a unique hotel complex. Unfortunately downtown doesn't need 800 more hotel rooms right now, at least not all at once. But residential construction isn't really booming and the new ballpark village office building is mostly a parking garage.
