I mean it’s 96% sold, 900 seats left that will be filled one way or another
I mean, its the first competitive match of our sparkly new franchise in our sparkly new stadium. I mean I thought my fellow St. Louisans would be as excited as me and make this the hottest ticket in town. Which they have not. Still, I blame the weather.
According to StubHub there are 22 tickets left. I bet there are no more than a couple hundred left if I cared enough to check the other sites. Not a bad showing considering it’s a friendly and will be 29 degrees, dark and breezy outside at game time.
Its not even really a competitive match…it’s our developmental squad (several of the players they’ve signed for the pro squad aren’t in town because of World Cup commitments) playing a friendly against a German team thats also missing a few big names due to the World Cup.
I’ve got buddies I work with that have been down there since 2-3pm tailgating. It’ll have a good sized crowd.
^I'll be there. And never said it wouldn't be a good crowd. was merely expressing surprise at the late availability over the last 7-10 days and hypothesizing a reason, one of which you've reiterated. I don't actually think the missing names have much bearing on where the excitement on this is coming from.
Xavi Alonso was probably the most famous player on the field (coaching Bayer) but who cares
One thing that they’ll need to figure out is food/drink service, I think how they envisioned it and how it went with 22,000 people there were totally different things.
^Agreed on the food service. I think it's fair to say that it was definitely a soft open and that they will hopefully iron out any kinks in the process, but there is work to be done. I don't imagine it helped when it seemed like a lot of people didn't know that the stadium is not accepting cash before trying to pay.
The only gripe I have about the stadium itself is that the concourses turned into standstills at several points. Not sure if it was because of food service lines cutting off walking space or what, but I was in a crowd in the middle of the concourse by Farm Truck that was at a dead stop for 3-4 minutes for no reason before the game.
Still, I thoroughly enjoy my time at the stadium tonight. I think the stadium itself has good bones, there were lots of staff on hand to help (or at least try), and the fan section of the stadium really did their best attempt to keep folks engaged even though we all knew it would be a route from the beginning.
I also think the food service will work better once fans figure out how some of the self kiosks work.
Def was a good practice run for all involved.
2nd STLs comment about the area in front of farm truck. I was stuck there for 10 minutes during halftime not moving really at all. I’ll know better than to do that again.
The 2nd level is kind of weird since you can’t go all the way around on it. But I will say up there the lines were short and the crowd was thin. Definitely the place to go to use the bathroom or get a drink.
My only real gripe is the scoreboard. They aren’t all the big to begin with and then when half of them is used for ads it’s hard to see the video on them. Maybe the idea is you won’t be looking at them, but I just thought the entire thing would be video with some replays.
I enjoyed the game tonight and enjoyed walking around to see what type of food offerings were there. Expensive, but that's to be expected. I like that the businesses offer different types of food than you'd normally et at sports stadiums/arenas (gyros, street tacos, BBQ sandwiches, toasted ravioli, Ices plain and fancy ice cream, etc).
I definitely think tonight's events will lead to some changes in operations for food stands and how the lines work. This was a real test and with the even being sold out, it gives the operations team a taste of what's to come.
Nice shots Chris! We were stuck in the beer line when I said to my buddy, ‘that’s the German national anthem!’ Bummed I missed that. We were on the NE corner—and the wind really blows though those corner openings. Which will be good in the summer months.
It’s a beautiful stadium, space. It has a nice energy, experience.
We were in the Ultra Club area and everything ran smooth there. The Club was perfect as it was mad cold last night. So we went inside and ate the Mexican joint called Tacos & Esquites and they were good. More expensive than Busch Stadium but I get it as the spot are local restaurants paying for those areas. Overall we had a good experience and we had never been to a professional soccer match.

Dual use…pop-up on game day, parking spaces the other 348 days of the year.

So they're going to give up the parking spaces on the seventeen days when they would generate the most revenue, but give up the retail on the 348 days when there probably won't be enough demand to fill the garage anyway? Brilliant!
