The folks in Jeff City must be pleased to see white guys with guns riding horses throughout StL. They've been trying to return to the wild west for years and they've almost accomplished their goal

I would like the city adopt an ordinance that requires public and private parking operators submit the following for surface lots and garages:
- Annual structural and pavement reports, capital and maintenance strategy
- Security and crime mitigation strategy
- Utilization rates and pricing
- Annual fee of $100 per space for non-compliance
Better yet require surface parking lots to have an attendant watching cars at all times. Would it strain the finances of the parking lot owners? Good. Force them to actually build something there.

They had Market closed between Tucker and Broadway last night. That still didn’t stop 50-60 teens hanging out in the corner of Keiner Plaza closest to Hooters. This was around 11:30. Not sure what happened when midnight hit.

I second your comment! Went to the game with my family and by Hooters there were about 50 kids! Some of them 12 and under! How can parents leave their kids after dark? Like they’re kids just walking downtown. City will probably act when one of those girls go missing, gets raped by the older teens or a bigger tragedy happens!

Curfew needs to go into effect at 10PM the latest and there’s no way 30 police officers can handle all those kids once they start running. After game traffic was insane and even though they were police officer and private security trying to help you can tell the city had no plan.

Watched some people skipped Hooters for dinner (Not good for business) as kids were jamming the entrance and they have no respect whatsoever for others screaming and acting stupid!!

I don’t want to hear excuses. I know what me and my family saw and that’s not a good image for visitors, specially the ones from San Diego!

Why can’t we get these 3 to hang out downtown late at night:

I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Europe but I’ve never heard of a European country that is cool with groups of roaming kids blocking the entrances. Maybe they need more to do but accosting people on the street is not cool, how can you even make excuses for that. This isn’t necessarily a teenager thing either I’m not cool with packs of roaming drunk lads accosting people either.

Shoot have any of you seen how homeless left Poelker Park right in front of City Hall. Super dirty! Second time I’ve seen drugs deals in bright day light!! I knew before hand DT STL was having some problems before buying but this is ridiculous. So much potential but incompetence in how to deal with all these situations are killing this city. This is not political because a lot of people here love to make it political.

When I grew up in painfully white West County in the 80s kids hung out like crazy and used to congregate at places like Zantigo, McDonalds or Naugels  on Manchester Road. Yes, 100, 200+ white kids who had 2, 3 or 6 police cars stationed around the place watching it all. But it broke up by 10pm.

Or same thing in the 1990's when the Lindbergh, Oakville and Mehlville (yes, almost entirely white) kids used to make the South County Mall to Ronnies loop an undrivable hell:  it was wrapped up by 10 or 11 at the latest.

These teens hanging out downtown are doing it at 11pm, midnight or 1am.

It's been like that for years there and other places in the neighborhood. It's apparently only a problem when it's near Square.

^Nah, they've broken up encampments before.  Not saying they didn't do it *this* time for Square, but this has happened a number of times before:

https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/local ... 7468b4a6a6

The tents maybe 9-12 months ago in that park West/SW of Park Pacific.

Maybe around 10 years ago there was a large camp on the riverfront just north of downtown that got broken up.  I think Larry was involved in that one.

Another time maybe 10-15 years ago I recall a number of people were inhabiting the underground train area under Tucker just north of Washington that I believe used to go to the basement of the Post Dispatch building.  The city finally kicked them all out.  I think it got filled in after they moved people out.  I think Larry was involved in that one too.

You're right. It just seems like nothing ever changes. The same people doing the same things are always within a few blocks of that general area. They don't have tents now, but it really doesn't matter whether they're there at 3am, as that doesn't impact anybody.
I expect Interco will continue to be fenced off for a very long time due to Square. That's our answer to everything. Close it down and make it ugly and unusable for everybody.  Lucas Park is still inaccessible from the south (library) side half the time because there are sometimes homeless people there. Some monuments were fenced off and all seating was removed in other parks.

Obviously we need to just put temporary fencing around every single park downtown. /s

The city needs to designate an area where the homeless can simply just camp out. Somewhere out of the way but still close enough to access the services available downtown. Keep police around to keep the peace but otherwise keep a hands off approach when it comes to drug use, curfew and whatnot. Think Hamsterdam from the Wire.

Build some basic infrastructure like toilets and showers. Perhaps some overhangs. Bring mobile warming shelters there in the winter. Keep some social workers around to help those interested in moving to a better situation.

TBH the North Riverfront makes a lot of sense for this.

Something does not add up.  A retaliatory shooting by the gang who was supposedly caught "breaking into cars" makes no sense.  There's more to this story.

It does sound like retaliation!
Plus I saw on the news that the person killed earlier was trying to stop the robbers!
But again can be gang related who knows.
Its getting out of hand!

Ive been in San Diego since the 12th and here are some comps

Downtown San Diego at 8:15 am on a Wednesday is about as busy as downtown STL at 8:15 am on a Wednesday
2% of the SD City population lives in downtown.
3.6% of STL City population lives in downtown.

San Diego City Population: 1,386,000
Saint Louis City Population: 302,000

Per Square Mile
San Diego: 4,255 people
St.Louis: 4,885 people

City employees per resident
SD: 1 for every 125 residents
STL: 1 for every 60 residents.

STL City Alderman per resident 2021:
 1 per 11,000
2023: 1 per 22,000
Ward size: about 2.2 Square miles (4.4 in 2023)

San Diego Councilman per resident
1 per 154,000
District size: about 40 square miles

San Diego 2020 Murders: 55
Saint Louis 2020 Murders: 262

San Diego Population: 1.43 M
Saint Louis Population: 0.301 M

San Diego Downtown Vacancy: 16.1%
Saint Louis Downtown Vacancy: 20.8%

San Diego Unemployment Rate: 6.60%
Saint Louis Unemployment Rate: 4.47%

San Diego GDP: $270 B
Saint Louis GDP: $180 B

So from what I found available jobs are not the problem in STL. Is getting the citizens of the city ready for the jobs available. So with more responsible parents and better education we should be better than San Diego!
