I’m sorry! Just watch the news and Reign had another shooting! Owner owes a lot of money on rent and my friends barbershop its been affected! And they minority owned so no race excuse there! One business is the biggest problem DT and it needs to be shut down!! Any other city would’ve closed this place down a long time ago! I also spoke to a few of the residents as I live close to the club and they’re not happy and want it closed as well…

One thing you will notice is St. Louis  city leaders are really slow to act on any thing. Also there is a hearing on there liquor license sep 10  btw. One can help they revoke it if they due who wants to bet they keep open and try to serve under the table. Its getting we been downtown for 5 years and first time my fam is starting to call me worrying about my safety.
Place needs to close and building owner should cancel the lease! I wouldn’t want a person that owes me thousands in my property! But for safety and security reasons this place needs to close!!

This is like three shootings in 10 days at Reign.

There is no explanation for this that makes it acceptable.

Reign is completely blameless. These shootings are my fault, your fault and everyone else's fault. Leave Reign alone. /s

I know I'm aging myself: but for years places like Sundeckers, Harpos, McGurks, Humprey's would have 2 or 3 off duty cops working. I used to live by Mike & Mins in Soulard and on Monday nights I'd meet up with friends for bucket beers and wing specials. Even though the place would be chill and maybe 1/2 full with people watching football, they'd still have one cop working the door.

After all this crap, Reign still isn't paying for off duty police? Then again I guess when you can't pay the rent I guess you can't pay for extra security.

If they owe rent money I doubt they can afford police officers 😂

They’re had off duty officers since they opened and just hired more and they’ve paid SLMPD to bring out a mobile camera trailer

Sorry, I just had to. 🙂

Overall, the majority of the shootings aren't actually happening inside.  If they were, you'd be seeing the place shuttered immediately.

People pick up guns in St. Louis to solve problems.  Booze, cars, and guns do not mix Downtown.  You can see the planning decisions of the past, and current indecisions of the present creating problems in what should be one of the most stable neighbs in the city.

This is yet another area of 'hot spotting' that isn't working, and is yet another spotlight on the fact that we are not going to wholly police our way out of violence in this city.  Not that hard to have more cops walking the beat or on bikes.  Maybe they are, but I have pretty much avoided the immediate 2-3 block radius for a while at night.

This is at least partially a false statement. Captain Benoist confirms SLMPD does not lease their “sky cops” to civilians. They have sold some. Additionally, the City has stated in writing Reign, as of a week ago or more, is not allowed to utilize SLMPD officers for “secondary patrols.” They must hire outside the department.

Regarding Bob Clark, I doubt he’d push his ideas in the paper if Broadway Ford Truck Sales was still happening.

So they’re not hiring off duty police to work the door?

Unsure. If they are, they cannot be SLMPD officers per City Hall.

What’s definite is that the sky cop was placed there by SLMPD. It’s not rented by Reign. They lied about that. Big surprise.

After reading this and speaking to my neighbors and a few business owners Reign is the problem!!

I don’t want to hear the bs of the race card here! This place is the problem. Before they bring race I’m a minority myself and mixed.

What’s wrong and off its wrong and off and this place needs to get shut ASAP!

So does Reign have off duty police working?

I went to the Dierbergs in Brentwood last night. They had TWO off duty cops working: one guy with a Bridgeton badge and another with Rock Hill patch.

SLMPD denied their officers request to work secondary during the hearing process. When it opened there was always a SLMPD off duty cop at the door

The first sentence of the PD article kinda cuts through this whole debate over if they're SLMPD officers or not - forget which agency their security is from, this is egregious:
By the time city liquor control officers reached Reign Restaurant’s front door one Saturday in May, it was 1:50 a.m., way past closing time. They could see people still drinking inside, but when the officers tried to enter, a “very large” security officer blocked their path.

As the officers stood outside on Washington Avenue, for 22 minutes, patrons slipped out the back door, drinks still in their hands.
That alone should have been cause for their liquor license to be suspended for a few weeks at least.

It doesn’t suck! I live here and its a fun place to live! But safety and security needs to be worked on. It would be a better place and it will grow at a faster pace. All these investments coming in are great! And it will make it an even more attractive place to live at. But don’t lie to yourself and believe that is a safe place to walk at night.

Don't backtrack now, JJ! You've already made clear that Downtown is a haven of black lawlessness with some "white crackheads" sprinkled in that can only be cleaned up with more police and some black bootstrapping.

You’re trying to make it racial so bad! Lol… people like yourself are the problem in rust belt cities. If you believe you live in Utopia so be it. Numbers don’t lie! You’re entitled to your opinion but the race card will expire soon and if policing and making bad people pay the consequences is a bad thing so be it!

To swing this back to the topic at hand
As we head towards redistricting and ward reduction it’s important to try to put downtown in just one ward

Downtown issues are a result of splitting the pie 4 ways (wards) & none have any interest in downtown bc voters here are transient for the most part. I think its great that the Ald.Coatar has all the sudden taken interest in dtown after 6 years of neglect thats lead to the issues.
James Page in the 5th is the first downtown resident in a while to rep part of downtown but he just started and before him Hubbard called downtown residents the white devil, so there is that. In the 6th- ingarssia barely has any residents downtown
And finally in the 19th- unless you’re a downtown developer you don’t exist to ald Davis.

Yes indeed! Downtown should be one ward! Agree 💯%.

How do the wards get divided with the new plan? Is it based on geography, population, commerce, etc?

And is it possible the wards change as the dynamics change as our city grows? ;)

They change based on the federal census every decade just like federal congressional districts and it’s only by population.  Each of the new 14 wards will need to have about 21,575 residents.   We will vote for all 14 in March/April 2023.  Half will get a 2 year term and other half a 4 year term
