^Haha

Love the 360 drone shots Chris, really allows you to visualize the finished project and how it will mesh with the neighborhood.

Well there was a natural spring pretty deep there so maybe archeological things could be left behind or something
Doubt it. Anything interesting was probably lost when they went through there in the 1960's to build the ramps.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that they will not be reopening Market Street in mid-March...

Smells like CITY spirit. They are now the proud owners of those two billboards along I-64 mounted on top of their future Global HQ:

I drove through Nashville yesterday and stopped by their soccer stadium under construction. I already knew where it was, but the trip just cemented my thoughts as a pretty poor location choice.

I know Nashville is going through one hell of a building boom so land choices aren’t plentiful. But the spot they picked is isolated. They could have put it 15 miles outside downtown and it will have the same drivability factor. Most everyone will have to drive and park on their lots.

I don’t know why they didn’t pick one of the under utilized spaces near Nissan stadium (across the river from downtown Nashville) that are filled with parking lots, closed hotels, scrap yards or barely used light industrial.

The location here is damn near perfect. Built entirely on what used to be underutilized free-way and parking lots (Yay!) Immediately creates an opportunity to develop a huge swath of DTW's parking lots with apartments and experiential retail. Potential to FINALLY truly connect DTW to Midtown.

This is a unique opportunity that the city needs to capitalize on immediately while the momentum is building. Zero idea as to the legality/etc. but it would be great to find some way to pressure land owners/speculators in the vicinity to build on lots or sell to someone who is going to. There's going to be huge demand to be in this area come 2 years from now.

drove by today... They now have Two cranes (I'm not a crane geek so I don't know the model) and they have started work on the eastern steel structure. They are working at crazy speeds id say by the end of next month they should be definitely done with the outside frame possibly starting the canopy structure!

Interesting because, unless I missed it, there was no mention of a second crane on the project schedule. Maybe they want to accelerate construction for some reason, hmm?  Cue the speculation...🙂

On the other hand, it is crane mating season:

I'm not sure about the MLS, but in FIFA, fields are allowed to have varying dimensions; sort of like outfields in baseball.
You are correct. Out of curiosity, I looked up MLS field dimension guidelines to see how they compare with a CFL field, i.e. how easy it is for them to share a stadium.

FIFA standard pitch dimensions do vary, a lot - see the FIFA(all competitions) graphic below. But MLS, the Premier League, World Cup, and Olympics all require field dimensions to fall within the more strict FIFA guidelines for international matches, which are: Length: 100-110m (~110-120 yards), Width: 64-75m (~70-80 yards).

According to Wikipedia, all current MLS stadia meet these guidelines. The smallest field in the MLS is Yankee Stadium (NYCFC), at 110 x 70 yards. The largest is Saputo Stadium (CF Montreal), at 120 x 77 yards. The CITY stadium pitch will be 120 x 75 yards.

Comparison of football and soccer field dimensions, for S&G:
League Length (yds.) Width (yds.)
MLS/Premier 110-120 70-80
NCAA Soccer 115-120 70-80
NFL/XFL 120* 53 1/3
CFL 150* 65
* - Including endzones
(So no, a CFL field will not fit in the new stadium)

whats the plan with Market being closed just west Union Station will Market reopen?
It’s been detailed here further back...but the Market overpass is being replaced. Of course Market will be reopened.

That overpass/bridge was in bad shape. If you'd ever walked across it there were multiple holes where you could see down to the ground/pavement below. Even if the stadium wasn't happening, my guess is the Market bridge would have needed a whole teardown and rebuild anyway.

Would it still be accurate to call it an overpass after the reopening? The replacement appears to be an at-grade street with a small tunnel underneath.

Yeah, it's just a new street on dirt fill, just like the new Clark and 22nd Street connections. It's funny though that the media keeps referring to it as a bridge/overpass/viaduct replacement, as well as emphasizing that, paraphrasing, "the bridge was going to be replaced anyway as part of the new Jefferson interchange".

I don't think that's true, at least I'd never seen any mention of it, or plan indicating replacement, prior to the release of the new stadium plan...

It is a fairly sizeable tunnel, but it's really disappointing that it isn't an overpass, actually, i.e. that they couldn't find a more productive use for all that space than as a dirt depository.

Kinda splitting hairs don’t ya think? The old overpass is getting torn out and replaced with a new road, which was the point.

I don't think the loss of space under the old Market Street bridge is really that much of a loss.  Especially with plenty of surface lots to fill in and around the immediate area/stadium itself .

Ideally what might have be a much more interesting and productive space for new uses was under the old Tucker Ave bridge/ old underground rail station which also allowed direct delivery of paper by rail to Post Dispatch old downtown printing plant once upon a time.  Too bad the money wasn't there to simply replace the Tucker Ave deck and preserve the space for future uses instead of inserting the cheap foam & put Tucker back in as a regular street..   I assume that space was pretty interesting.

What exactly would we build below ground, under a new Market Street overpass?

Parking, loading docks, back-of-house, parking, storage, emergency generators, electrical substation, parking, stormwater detention, pedestrian connections between the stadium, team facility basement, and future below-grade garage, and/or parking...

It is open and they road dieted. There are no markings yet and no street lights: but it looks like they lost at least two lanes

According to the drawings it went from a 100' wide 6-lane street with 5' sidewalks, to a 60' wide 4-lane street with a partial pedster refuge.

Most of the former street space will be part of the new "pedestrian corridor" on the north side of Market, between the stadium plaza and the curb/sidewalk.

The missed opportunity of what could have been under Market Street is really a reflection of what they chose to do with the space south of it. That was the point.

It seems as though they just wanted to fill up all that acreage with whatever, rather than optimize use of space and plan for future investments which could help create an active streetscape along the south side of Market Street. As it is, they are going to be stuck with a lot of fenced-in dead space for the foreseeable future.

Now if they can just road diet and traffic calm the rest of Market.
