I was part of the Media Rountable discussion. Interesting things talked about there.
- Pavilion south of Market is for the team store
- The East side of the Stadium is a plaza that is meant to be a fitting end of the Gateway Mall.
- The Stadium will include 4 terraces (one at each corner) creating unique views of the field and City.
- Special seating areas for people who want to be right up along the pitch or in the Fan section.
- The stadium is designed to let the energy from inside go outside of the Stadium walls.
- Steel erection begins within 2 weeks.
- Support columns will stand 5-stories tall.

Future plans for the district were not talked about.

Just remove these 1.5 sections! They're blocking iconic views of Downtown and Union Station from much of the west side of the stadium.

Interesting.  I can't ascertain a functional purpose.  Closeup:

Does it maybe kind of look like Aloe Plaza got a bit of a redesign in this rendering?  You can only see a little sliver of it here but it looks like they kind of broke up the lawn and added some pavers to it.

I would venture to guess it just looks nice for the rendering, but I would love to see a refresh of that fountain and grounds.  It's pretty tired looking down there right now.  Would be nice to add that into the mix with all the work going on at Union Station.

Digging the new renderings, but not really sure what those arrows are really showing on those additional graphics.  Side note...the Gateway Mall kind of makes my eye twitch.  There are three buildings in it (yes, I know two are court buildings), and that extra space around Soldiers Memorial looks bizarre.  The future of it will be interesting.

ANYWAYS, can't wait for this bad boy to get done.  Thanks for all the new renderings and info.

^ I've come around to the Gateway Mall quite a bit more as various blocks get rebuilt.  Citygarden, Kiener Plaza, the lid, etc.  And I've always really liked the courthouses in the center axis of it.  Now we'll finally have an appropriate monumental end to the Mall with the stadium...maybe we'll get lucky and Aloe Plaza will see some work too.  Eternal Flame and Kaufman Park should be sold off and developed though...and the Gateway One building is a whole other eyesore.  How great it would it be if they could knock down the nearest Kiener garage and just dismantle and rebuild Gateway One on that block?  There's my pipe dream for the day.

Regarding the holes in the roof, Chris mentioned they wanted the stadium energy to bleed out into the city, I imagine they mean crowd noise...could those be part of that?  Leaving some space for sound to escape and maybe some breezes to come in?

On the arch drawings those are noted as the "Sponsor Pavilion Bar", and it's just an outdoor bar with TVs under a square canopy, under each of the two square roof holes. It's surrounded by tables and such, and has a steel lattice frame above it with accent lighting, and presumably sign supports, all noted as "Future Branding Elements".

I suppose from a design perspective the two holes in the roof give those corner terraces more of an airy, sunlit feel, as if they were separate from the stadium, but I don't think it's going to be very pleasant on a windy, rainy, early-Spring day. More practically, those holes also allow for a place for exhaust from the restaurant, grill, and other concession spaces on the north side of the stadium.  Since all four sides are public, I'm not sure where else they could vent it...

For the crane porn enthusiasts; the crawler crane should arrive some time next week, according to the project schedule.

The efforts made to create 4 "public" sides will make this stadium stand apart from rest. I think this will be one of the best in the MLS, but will reserve final judgement till completion.

^Also, from the architectural drawings, there is an enclosed "Brew Pub Shell Space" on the ground level of the northeast corner of the stadium. It has exterior entrances and an outdoor patio overlooking the east plaza. I assume that space will be leased to generate some of that year-round soccer district activity they keep mentioning.

Not sure how many other stadiums have retail space like that beyond the usual team store.

So, uh, did they just low-key reveal their team kits or have I not been paying attention?

I can’t imagine those are real. Way too red. Not enough pink.

Disclaimer: I know enough UK slang that I understand the actual meaning, but I couldn't help but chuckling.

"SL City Soccer Club Kit. Some assembly required."

Nice catch. :) It might be a placeholder, I suppose, but the color feels right. (And it feels consistent with the rest of what they've been doing to me.)

More renderings:

Looking east from the "City View" club level above the corporate suites, on the west side of the stadium

Street-level shot of the northeast corner of the stadium, with the square hole in the canopy and the Sponsor Pavilion below it.  This also shows the exterior entrance to the "Brew Pub" space on the ground level, although for some reason it no longer has the outdoor seating / patio extending out onto the plaza in front of the pub (which I thought was a great idea)...

I don’t think the Arch will look like that from inside the stadium unless you are looking through a 40X lens.

The crane has arrived, and she's a big girl. Boom chika wah wah...

It was too dark for the, um, close-up shot, though... 🙂

^Hey Chris, you're going to have to update your crane map! :) I suppose it's silly to get excited over something as meaningless as a temporary hoist no matter how large, but, well, I do like my rigging. As anyone in rock and roll knows, more points is better. ;-)

Because this is one of those crawling cranes, it won’t change the crane count any. However, I do have to add the “Hudson” crane since the base is in place.

I’m excited to watch the steel go up for this stadium though. It should give us a true sense of scale over the next several months.
