^That's a lot of rebar, and a whole lot of concrete to pour...

Thanks for the photo. Now would someone please take some pics of the emerging SOMA Compound, err...District...? 🙂

Anthem Hill is disappearing quickly, and concrete has been poured for the service tunnel and loading dock lid. There are new photos of both the stadium and training compound sites here:

I wish there was a way to embed a video on here without uploading it to YouTube first. I did a fly around of the soccer stadium site and the video is about 4 minutes long. It gives a unique perspective.

As I said in the "Chris Stritzel's Drone" thread, I have a few more "test shots", like these, left. It all helps me get acquainted to the drone and how it works. So far, it's all going good.

I decided to just use YouTube.

^You need some audio for that. YouTube has a bunch of public domain and GNU stuff available. And you'd be welcome to use most any of my stuff if you wished. Please do spin the specifics by me, if you would, but I have a hard time imagining your drone video being anything other than a pleasure to help. That said, I'm curious how YouTube would behave with my stuff, since I haven't actually released it via GNU. To see if they would send me notification or anything like that. If you're willing to play guinea pig . . .

^ Thanks for the video, Chris.  Really gave me a sense of just how big this site is, and all the surface lot potential around it.  Hoping for the best.

Superb, Chris. Really glad they moved the stadium north of Market too.

I’m also really enjoying all the drone shots Chris!  Last night, I was looking at the construction cameras for Austin FC’s new stadium.  In comparing their site in Jan 2020 to STL City’s site today, their stadium construction appears to be basically 1 year ahead.  I think this is a good reference for what to expect during construction in 2021 as the spectator stands start to rise.  I have to say, I am a bigger fan of STL’s design.

It's unfortunate that a dispensary is slated to open in the old Imo's (IIRC) - talk about a great site for a bar.

Yeah I see no problem having a dispensary or two sprinkled around ;)  (I'm still salty about Tom's tho...)

Just a random observation from the stadium architectural drawings for SnG:

The entire east side (20th St. side) of the stadium is basically built on grade, meaning there will be nothing but dirt and gravel under the lower bowl seating and the Main Concourse floor. So, excavation and foundation work will go quickly on that side now that they control the parking lot.

It also means that, if and when they decide to significantly expand the stadium, that's where they will do it. Whether they demo and rebuild that side, or add another tier of seating onto it, they will be able to do it as cheaply and quickly as possible - almost like they planned it that way...

PostNov 10, 2020#369

I also noticed the Police Retirement Association building west of Maggie O'brien's still has all of their windows on all four sides boarded up. Do they plan on leaving those up permanently, were the windows smashed, or did they perhaps vacate that building?

It would be a good place for a team HQ building with some ground floor retail, just sayin...

^ Interesting thought about expanding the stadium.  That thought wasn't even on my radar.

^Another design consideration I forgot to mention:

The stadium roof design and upper bowl would also easily accommodate an expansion. The upper bowl and roof along the east side has minimal connections to the other sides, in fact, the only connection at all is around the square hole in the roof at the northeast corner.

I'm not quite sure how they could expand or add a tier of seats on one side, and maintain the symmetric shape of the roof, but maybe they won't care.

Future expansion will already be built in at the Olive 22nd street corner and Olive 20th street corner of the stadium when it’s completed.

Not sure what this means. They did say something early in the stadium design about being able to add some seating to the stadium, but it wasn't much, only about 2500 seats or so. Is that what you mean?

Getting really nitpicky here, but I wish they'd left this section of the upper deck void, to provide sweeping views of Downtown and Union Station from the west side of the stadium. It'd make for some great television shots as well - a packed stadium with the skyline in the background - a la Busch Stadium.

It will open at 22,500, and can be expanded in the future to 25,000.
