My thoughts exactly. It's never made sense why it's so difficult to just make roughly square/rectangular districts of varying size but equal populations (I mean, I get why, but it's so damn stupid to make it a "political" thing).

Me and you also have proposed the exact same term limits as well - max of two six-year terms for senators, max of six two-year terms for representatives, and leave the Presidency as is - two four-year terms plus two potential years as outlined by the 25th Amendment for a max of ten years in office. I would even go a step further and make Supreme Court Justices a 20 year appointment (with the ability to step down at any time beforehand) instead of the 'for life' policy as it currently stands.

An important date for everyone in the City is September 22nd. This is the date when Absentee Voting begins.

I highly recommend that all City voters who can do so consider voting "Absentee in Person".

If you are a City voter and are planning to vote Absentee, then you should know that you can vote ahead of the election at the City Board of Election Commissioners, at 300 North Tucker. Now, the State of MO does not allow "Early Voting". That said, if you are planning to vote Absentee, then you can do so in person at the Election Commissioners office, starting 9/22 and going all the way to 11/2 (Election Day Eve). This works for those voters who want to vote Absentee and are concerned about their ballot arriving in the mail on time, so remove the USPS middle man and cast your ballot directly with the ballot counters. Especially for those who know for whom they are looking to cast their vote right now and are ready to dedicate it, know you can do so starting on 9/22.

Meanwhile, everyone who can should volunteer as a Poll Worker. The City is looking for more people to help this November.
All y'all in the County should do so there, too.

Doesn't the county have this also? I feel like I did this 8 years ago or so when I was going to be out of town.

^ I would assume so, but I don't know enough about current STL County standards for electioneering to speak fully confident about it.

Anyone who knows what's up with STL County, please chime in. Ditto for the Chuck, JeffCo, Metro East counties, etc.

This is normal....

NEW: A major deal to lower drug costs collapsed when drug companies balked at a WH demand they pay for $100 cash cards (aka Trump Cards) to be mailed to seniors before November.

The presidential election just got about a bazillion times more important and consequential a few hours ago. It's literally and indisputably the single most important election this nation has held since 1864. It's quite possible that the future existence of this nation depends on us not completely f**king this thing up 46 days from now.

Well with what McConnell has said, by the time any new president takes office, it might be too late. I suppose they could always add an extra couple of judges to the bench if they wanted to, since there's no specified amount in the Constitution.

Or, y'know, we could just appoint judges based on their ability to fairly interpret the Constitution without any implicit political biases one way or another, as was the original intent of the Court. But, well, this is America.

If McConnell violates his own precedent and appoints a replacement to RBG's seat before the election, or worse, during the lame duck after Trump has been defeated, he is giving Schumer all the justification he needs to immediately nuke the filibuster and add at least 2 more justices to the court as the first order of business when the Democrats take over in 2021.

I wonder if Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham will keep the explicit promise he made 2 years ago?

If the death of RBG proves anything about this country, it's that we need a hard reset.

I see liberal-leaning people on Twitter and Facebook threatening violence if the Senate pushes a nominee through. I see conservative-leaning people taking those people up on their offer to advance violence. I see political fundraising on both sides. I see complete jackassery on bothsideso in the wake of the death of a Supreme Court Justice. It happened 4 years ago too. Too stupid if you ask me.

Electing Biden isn't going to fix it. Putting 2 more judges on the court won't do anything besides make that another, and it really already is but adding two will solid it, highly politicized branch of government. So, trash the government and start over because clearly we f-ed up somewhere and it wasn't with Trump or Obama. Really it can be traced back to Bush 41 's "Read my lips" statement, then reversing that stance. We need congressional term limits, no gerrymandering, a Supreme Court that is not political and has Justices who are constitutionalists and won't be swayed by political tides. We need uniting Presidents and not ones that b**** about each other's problems in public and further sow division through their incompetence. Offer coherent solutions with no B.S. thrown in to get a news story made. Make news by doing, and not by talking. Biden and Trump are worthless as they're just two old talkers who do what all other politicians do, talk and get nothing done.

We need big changes to literally everything, and if no one can see that, then they're part of the problem. We just need to start over and create a country that everyone can be happy with because right now, we are so divided that what's the point of even trying to stay united anymore? So THANK YOU Democrats and Republicans for screwing this nation over. Both parties are to blame for this mess, and not just one particular person or party. Both parties and their leaders suck. They need to go. So lets start rebuilding the country there. Eliminate those parties, or all political parties, and force their dinosaur leaders into retirement. Let's get new people in there with new ideas and not the same old crap that's been talked about for years. It gets old after a while.

I'm sitting this election out and letting everything go whatever it way it goes. I just don't care enough to go and vote for the "lesser of the two evils" because the options all suck. I will not feel pressured or blamed if one candidate wins and the other loses. It's just whatever. So election week results won’t bother me any. So conservatives can complain and cry when Trump loses because whatever. So liberals can complain and cry when Biden loses because whatever. I’ll be found doing my own things and not letting the election results bother me. It’s called, the people vote and the people decide. Their vote is their will. So be it.

Here's a reasonable proposal: nobody gets confirmed to that seat until after the election, and the nominee gets chosen by the winner of the election. Let the voters decide who gets to fill RBG's seat.

Packing the court happens if McConnell and Graham break their own rules and ram through a nominee less than 46 days before a presidential election, or worse, during a lame duck session after Trump has been defeated. If Trump can win re-election, he gets to fill that seat. If he doesn't, it should be Joe Biden making that choice.

Chris, I highly recommend watching Social Dilemma, if you haven't already. It's a documentary, been on Netflix for a week or so.

Some parts are poorly done, and they could have and should have explored so much more, but I think it does a damn good job of explaining what got screwed up and when.

Not a bad proposal at all.

Really no chance of this happening, but to be unified, I would love it if Trump and Biden came together, just this once, and announced a nominee jointly that they both agree on. That would probably be a unifying moment that we need. But as I said, no chance.

There big risks for Trump in a pre-election SCOTUS fight.... the potential for the Roe v. Wade/abortion issue to tear Trump's coalition apart.
“his 2016 support came from voters who disliked Hillary Clinton, liked his rhetoric on immigration/trade, but are *pro-choice* - especially secular, blue-collar women.
Only 15% of Clinton's voters at least leaned pro-life and 11% held mixed views (74% at least leaned pro-choice).
But 22% of Trump's voters at least leaned pro-choice and another 13% held mixed views. For decades, many of these blue-collar, pro-choice Trump voters had voted for Democrats because they saw Republicans as the party of "Bible thumpers" who moralized against abortion & gay marriage.
Then Trump came along, and they didn't mind him as much. Now, there may actually be an opportunity for Dems to win back many of these voters by tying Trump to the "DC swamp:" Mitch McConnell and Rs who want to "end Roe v. Wade, cut more taxes for billionaires" etc.

In fact, Biden is *already* winning many of these blue-collar voters.”

I don’t think Mitch has the votes to do this pre nov 3rd.  If gop loses the senate and presidency they could do it between nov 3 and Jan 3 but that carries another risk- Democrats packing the court by adding more seats to it in retaliation.

If Trump has any self-control (questionable) he should announce that out of respect to Ginsberg wishes he will delay nomination until after election and simply announce that Amy Coney Barrett will be his nominee. She's a woman, has two adopted Haitian children, one special needs child and about four other kids. Covers all the bases.

There is no upside for him politically to do anything before nov 3rd

Sean Trende from Real Clear politics

“Since people are already discussing the impact of this on 2020: The smart Trump play happens to be the one with the best outcome for the country: not to nominate anyone. He doesn’t care about Republicans, conservatism, or least of all the court. Constitutional cons will complain but they are few in number and what are they going to do? Vote Biden? It puts the screws to wavering center-right folk. If he loses, he spends the next four years on his OANN show railing against the Lincoln Project for giving away her seat. He can even name the person he will nominate. But the alternatives are ramming through a nominee and having the left go apoplectic with 100% turnout, while conservatives can vote on character, or worse, losing the confirmation battle“

BTW, I've always hated the idea of lifetime appointments.
