While an eastern entrance from a pedestrian bridge would be really cool that would turn into another point that the metro would have to put security at so people don't try to ride for free. I am all for the bridge idea though as forest park parkway can be daunting to cross for some people. It would also add a nice touch to the St. Vincent Greenway.quincunx wrote: ↑Oct 16, 2019Adding an entrance on the east end of the platform with the bridge, interesting.

The new entrance was a solution to safety concerns. Stakeholders mentioned to WSP the feeling of being trapped as a key concern when using the station.
Yeah the Forest Park Station definitely makes you feel anxious using it.addxb2 wrote: ↑Oct 16, 2019The new entrance was a solution to safety concerns. Stakeholders mentioned to WSP the feeling of being trapped as a key concern when using the station.
I have the same concern at Grand and the Cortex stations. only one way out. Plus it makes it less time efficient to use if you're coming from the direction far from the entrance.

That is a good point. I haven't used that specific station enough to get that feel from it but I could understand the need for a second in/out for safety especially during the times of day with lower ridership.
I’m a bit confused by the bridge concept. What’s the point of abandoning an entrance on the west side of Debaliviere just to open a second entrance on the East side of Debaliviere.
How does that make sense?

Pearl had said that a restaurant was going to go on the kiss’n’ride? Is that not the plan anymore?

In front of the TIF commission tomorrow.
From the TIF packet:
$91.5M project, 290 apts, 30k sq commercial space, 440 parking spaces.
$12.6M TIF, $2.8M CID, Sales and use tax exemption on construction materials worth about $1.5M.
Parking garage is $10.7M

If your'e upset about TIFs, CIDs, etc, consider being just as upset about auto-orientation. Schools are denied tax base for free/subsidized parking. Crazy that most of the tax incentives are going to affordable parking, yet there's no affordable housing (which would be all that more affordable if fewer had to have a car)
I am def. with the TOD approach, as it already is. This is the best and important transfer of red/blue lines. The current few, small and tiny, trashy stores are all there is. moving there in a month down Pershing, and its a food desert. With no car right now, I can't shop and carry more than 2 bags. Maybe the 1 Gold line will take me to a CWE expensive grocer, that costs my whole monthly budget. But I am excited as my current place is a worse off food desert. Better plans ahead.dredger wrote: ↑Jun 20, 2019I think the south side just needs to be thought of differently by reconnecting the south side of Highland, Forest Park Community College (add parking structure and turn over some existing surface lot property for infill), and charter school/science via a through street/blvd with a well placed pedestrian bridge or two for access to Forest Park. In other words, not so much about facing Forest Park but making dogtown and existing area bounded by Hampton, Manchester, and Kingshighway more ameanable to development. Just wish I could think of the street of the south side of Highland that I'm thinking ofpattimagee wrote: I couldn't agree more about Debaliviere, but I would say that for all of the locations touching Forest Park. That amenity is second to none, which makes it sad its not easier to get across 64 from the south side....
To get really into it, a plan to daylight the underground culvert and restore part of the Des Peres creek. However, not sure what structure are above the area of where the old creek once flowed. Talk about a science, nature restoration project for the science center to incorporate
If a new TOD wants to build housing around it, the rules are pedestrians first!...Safe lit train access. Walking and transfer to buses must be simple and mixed use housing having essential businesses. IE...food market, separate convenience store, and common sense retail food, coffee shop with open wide sidewalks, and mre bus lanes than cars on Deb. with safer access to the actual park.
Forest Park at DeBaliviere is already greatly impaired with the funneling of vehicles, buses, pedestrians, bikers, scooters, deliveries etc. to that corner. If this proposed building comes to volition and in the future the old burger chef corner is populated DeBaliviere in its two lanes and swaths of cement buffeted trolley tracks will exasperate even steady drivers. The corner is not going to have a major engineered re-do thus it may be another case of "how do we (e.g. vehicle drivers(and others)) avoid/get around that intersection".
Sounds like St. Charles County is your kind of place. If the only thing you care about is quick and easy vehicle access maybe the city isn’t the place for you.hebeters2 wrote: ↑Nov 03, 2019The corner is not going to have a major engineered re-do thus it may be another case of "how do we (e.g. vehicle drivers(and others)) avoid/get around that intersection".
Hebeters, to clarify, are you saying that if the strip mall and parking lot are replaced with the proposed mixed-use development that drivers are going to avoid DeBaliviere?

They may have them under contract, but the developer does not control either property yet.SeattleNative wrote: ↑Dec 31, 2019Jogged by the strip mall yesterday. Businesses were still open. Any time table yet for demo?

Just up the street- your chance to replace some surface parking.
And What once was

Thanks for the pics. To be clear, that's the demo of what's now the strip mall.
The building which is now surface parking north of Busey Bank was damaged by fire ~1970 and subsequently razed.

A chance to replace some parking and add some density, but I don’t think the property for sale fronts DeBaliviere. I think by “back portion of lot” they probably mean the part that would McPherson and which would still be set back from DeBaliviere (assuredly still by parking for the bank) by a building’s width.quincunx wrote:Just up the street- your chance to replace some surface parking.
