FYI Verizon Center is not going to be replaced by something in the suburbs anytime soon for the Wizards. It's owned and operated by Monumental Sports, the same ownership group that owns Wizards & Capitals. Zero chance MS would remove one of their own teams from their own arena and thus lose operating revenue. Not to mention the timeline would be around 2027 for any potential lease anyways... which would be in line with probable venue upgrades. Plus they're building a new practice facility for the Wizards (doubles as the home venue for the WNBA Mystics) in Anacostia as well.
I've just heard the small size of Scottrade is an issue. I was simply pointing out all the comparable arenas that host NBA and NHL teams together. But if you think that's stupid, then fine.DogtownBnR wrote:I would disagree on the arena capacity.
Sorry I was also wrong about that. The Milwaukee Bucks new arena is $525 million and the Edmonton Oilers new place grew to $600 million. Plus they're throwing around $550 to 600 million in Seattle for a new Sonics arena. But Las Vegas and Quebec City's new places are more reasonable at $370 millionrbb wrote:A remodel/renovation is absolutely necessary, and that's true whether an NBA team lands here or not. But an estimate of $600+ million seems a bit on the high side; recent nba and/or NHL stadiums have been built in roughly the $300M range, though there are outliers like the new Red Wings development that includes constructions of offices and shops adjacent to the arena. You can do a lot for a lot less than that, especially if you're renovating the existing center - which is still feasible IMO.

Saint.Louis has the slimmest chances of landing any NBA team and i don't think we should be throwing $5-600 Mil on a new arena we have better things to do with our money like stabilizing north saint.louis and surrounding areas don't get me wrong i would enjoy if we could snag a team but at what cost?
I also think saint.louis has a better chance of being a moderate growth region more than slow growth however we'll all know in 2040 how we fair ...

The only reason I knew this was that I live in DC now and have networked with MS employees. I'm sure VA or MD would love to lure the Wizards out of DC, but it's not anything that would happen for another 10 years at the very least.dweebe wrote:Sorry I was also wrong about that. Bernie had a segment on Friday explaining why there is a zero % chance of StL getting an NBA franchise. He also discusses the Grizzlies debacle.

What is with all of the doom and gloom about NBA here in STL? Yet folks have a hard on for the MLS?
STL is a top 20 market without the NFL. The ONLY one! The only market in the COUNTRY with just baseball and hockey; STL would make perfect sense. The NBA has clearly ran out places to expand. Seattle again? Vancouver again? Louisville, Omaha, Pittsburgh? Seriously.......
The thin logic in here is weird.
Bernie's logic is way off base. The Grizzlies situation was different for many reasons. I'm glad it didn't happen. I don't want the Walton Crime Family owning another team in STL.

Seattle is probably #1 in terms of any NBA team though... the market is still insanely strong, they just didn't pony up for a new arena. Now that they have a deep pockets potential owner and the city is willing to let them build a shiny new NBA arena I bet Seattle gets the Sonics back with the new CBA deal (remember, the city got to keep the Sonics history, colors, and logo when the team moved to OKC).

Saint.Louis may be slow growth but it definitely isn't declining like Pittsburgh Cleveland Detroit Chicago Milwaukee Buffalo and nothing against those places cause they are all great places but when it comes to Saint.Louis we're in our own way and we take things way too deeply when it comes to bad press.
I don't take anything what Bernie has to say to heart however i do believe Saint.Louis will not get a NBA team not cause we can't support it cause Seattle is far more attractive

There are only 30 NBA team. If Seattle got the first one the NBA will need another to even it out to 32. Seattle in the West and STL in the East.St.Louis1764 wrote:Saint.Louis may be slow growth but it definitely isn't declining like Pittsburgh Cleveland Detroit Chicago Milwaukee Buffalo and nothing against those places cause they are all great places but when it comes to Saint.Louis we're in our own way and we take things way too deeply when it comes to bad press.

It would make more sense to add 2 in the West and then push Memphis and New Orleans back into the East.WendellOPruitt wrote:There are only 30 NBA team. I'm skeptical that East-West conference balancing would be a significant factor in NBA decision-making. They'll pick the cities that make the most revenue and sort out the conferences later.

as a Milwaukee Bucks fan I was hoping for their D league team to be put here. But looks like they're staying in Wisconsin. I just wanted some solid ball in the city

Guess the NBA is looking to expand in the future .... KC is apparently a favorite, along with Seattle... not STL....
Let’s give a team to the 30th TV market over the 20th

If a city is going to land a team it needs an ownership group. Does STL have an ownership group?

The NBA may miss the boat in Seattle since it looks like the NHL is winning that race hands down.

Plus while not at the same level as St. Louis' anger at the NFL, a number of people are pissed at the NBA for letting the Sonics leave. The NBA didn't burn the bridge there, but it's damaged.

Pro Sports are finished in this town.
We're entering the golden age of St. Louis basketball, emerging as a real hotbed, and we're an afterthought for the NBA.
Oh and Seattle is definitely getting both NBA and NHL.
As far as KC goes, the NBA is a star driven league and isn't afraid of smaller markets. KC has passed us by, you'll have to make trips west on 70 for NFL, MLS and NBA.

what has KC passed us by in? 800,000 less people metro area? no where as big of a corporate base that buys suites.9ine Runner wrote: ↑May 21, 2018Pro Sports are finished in this town.

Relax man it, was one tweet from a KC homer. The NBA doesn't want to over-saturate a small market. If STL gets a good ownership group they have as good or better chance than KC for the NBA. Scottrade will be better than the Sprint Center by then too.9ine Runner wrote: ↑May 21, 2018Pro Sports are finished in this town.

How much would a NBA expansion fee cost? I would assume a lot more than the NHL expansion.. Theres no Denying KC is growing & seems to be the go 2 city for Missouri however while there may be fan support i couldn't see KC pulling this off without good corporate support...
I really don't think the NBA is all that interested in St.Louis

So the Cardinals and Blues are going to leave? Got ya.
Kansas City also has a still very nice downtown arena that's been sitting without a tenant for over a decade. That's their threat.train_bike wrote: ↑May 21, 2018678,246 less as of July 1st, 2017dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑May 21, 2018what has KC passed us by in? 800,000 less people metro area? no where as big of a corporate base that buys suites.9ine Runner wrote: ↑May 21, 2018Pro Sports are finished in this town.

That's why I was hoping the Blues would align with the Hunt family to put their main minor league affiliate there.
