Joe Edwards is such an outlier in St Louis. He looks like he should be in Key West or California. An eccentric, optimistic person like him is such an oddity in today's St Louis where most people just seem to want to lie down and die.

I really wish someone could come up with the money for Delmar Metro and Wabash Station improvements. Would really change a visitors experience.

I guess it depends on what circles you move in. I on the other hand seem to know an army of die-hard city boosters who believe in the City and Work everyday for incremental change. The Wabash/Delmar station has the potential to become (again) a rail/transport hub. It is a station on two local lines, Metro and Trolley, and connects directly to regional and long distance rail via Amtrak and Greyhound eastbound and the airport to the west. Thought of that way, it could be the starting point for all kinds of journeys. It needs a newsstand, a cafe, and integration into the other systems, like Amtrak ticket kiosks and displays for flight, train and bus arrivals and departures. A tourist info booth, a Metro agent, and a lounge, or terrace built... somewhere so you can watch the trolleys and the metro trains come and go.
Oh, that's right. WU owns it now. This is from last year but does say that there is interest in restoring the station to its original purpose, or at least connecting it to the current Delmar metro station. Not sure if anything has changed since.

Has there ever been any mention of ad space on the trolleys to bring in additional revenue? I personally hope they don't - they just look too good without them.

^Most of the old streetcars had small placards on the front and back that weren't much bigger than the sleeve for an LP. Obviously targeted mostly at pedestrians and streetcar travelers themselves due to the small size. They look pretty tasteful though. It'd be kinda cool to see ads for KDHX, KMOX, Delmar Hall Shows, Pageant Shows, Film Festivals at the Tivoli, Muny Productions, Exhibitions and the History Museum, and other Forest Park events, all of which would be consistent with the kinds of ads you'd see back in the day.

When I mentioned the news to my brother I accidentally contracted "Loop Trolley Drama" to "Loop Trauma" which honestly is pretty fitting considering how long this has taken to complete.
Pure speculation, but believe a call took place between Bob's development folks and Wash U development folks at one point to discuss what is the pluses or minuses of trolley happening or not. The other speculation, trolley extended to Clayton CBD and or extended east & then south to CWE/Barnes Jewish really opens future development opportunities for Clayco after plopping down a 15 story mixed use building on Delmar.
The whole situation is working out for the best. The opening will now occur in Spring, allowing a maximum initial trial and adoption period.
The trolley is not intended to be rapid transit. What it will do is open up plenty of residential development that would otherwise be too far from Metro stations to be truly car optional. Now a much wider swath of real estate will be able feed into the rapid stations which broadens the footprint. For the areas involved, the 50+mm will be money well spent. Thank you Joe and Bob for your vision and commitment.

The Memphis Area Transit Authority seems to be experiencing some of the same delays in streetcar restoration that the Loop Trolley dealt with. They're facing at least 90 days of additional delays. I believe this is the same company in Iowa that the Loop Trolley Co. relied upon for restorations:
