Sorry if already mentioned, but looks like renovations are underway at 500 Chestnut next to Chase. Most of the old green-white windows have been replaced with brand new glass and inside is completely gutted. Anyone know what's going on?

^ no plans yet, just want to get it ready for leasing.
Good to hear. Wish they'd do that with the garages overall. If they have to stay parking garages, at least make them look somewhat nice.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Jan 10, 2023^ no plans yet, just want to get it ready for leasing.
Gateway Arch Park Foundation—which serves Gateway Arch National Park (including the Old Courthouse), Kiener Plaza, and the St. Louis Riverfront—will expand its Downtown footprint in 2023 to accommodate the organization’s growing mission and team. The Foundation's new headquarters is located on the west side of Kiener Plaza at 701 Market Street, also known as Peabody Plaza, just blocks from their current office.
The Foundation’s new office is 7,800 square feet, an increase over its current lease at Gateway Tower, which is 5,085 square feet. The nonprofit will move in mid-2023 and has signed a long-term lease with Briar Meads Capital, which owns Peabody Plaza. Arcturis, whose offices are located in the same building, is designing the new space.
In addition, the Foundation currently holds a lease at Gateway Tower for the National Park Service during construction at the Old Courthouse, where their administrative offices are normally housed. That lease will also move to 701 Market for the duration of construction on the Old Courthouse.
The Foundation also funds a lease of 10,000 square feet at the Old Post Office to house Gateway Arch National Park’s collection and archives, which have been vacated from the Old Courthouse, in partnership with Jefferson National Parks Association. In total, the Foundation will be leasing more than 20,000 square feet in Downtown St. Louis.

Peabody Plaza has been killing it. Tons of new tenants, a great new restaurant, and maintaining their namesake tenant.

It would have been kind of funny if they picked up and moved to St Chuck.

All the recent news regarding Gateway Tower makes me wonder if it's being cleared out for a residential conversion.
That's my thought as well. Or at least a partial conversion.debaliviere wrote: ↑Jan 11, 2023All the recent news regarding Gateway Tower makes me wonder if it's being cleared out for a residential conversion.

I would live there with the sweeping Arch/skyline views and ample balcony space

Don't think there is any planned or thought of conversion to apartments, i think its just a landlord that isnt making improvements like the rest of the buildings to stay ahead of the game.
I continually fail to understand the city's ticketing/towing protocols. Obviously the KMOX folks tweeting got this one that was there for months taken care of. The video shows a private truck towing that car away. It's gotta be worthwhile in scrap value for somebody to haul away these heaps.
It's as if the city has no separate protocol for dealing with obviously abandoned cars vs. the regular parking ticket protocols, so these sit for months and months.
These two remain just a couple blocks from the KMOX car. The white one even had its taillights removed, in addition to all that front-end stuff.
I wish there were some citizen bounty program. I'll take 5% of the car's scrap value to pester the city. I'll take a cut of the fines to pester the city about why there are permanent construction dumpsters where no construction is happening at CityView and another Plaza Square building.

Probably going to lose the volleyball tournaments that fill up the convention center and downtown hotels so often
Teen in St. Louis for volleyball tournament hit by car, has both legs amputated

No, we’re not going to lose a volley tournament because of an unfortunate car crash. Chicago didn’t lose a conference where a St.Louis politico lost both of his legs in a same type of crash last year.

We likely won’t lose the tournament this can happen in any city sadly very unfortunate & it’s the times now of how people behave specifically when driving. So many people drive recklessly. This is senseless and should of never happened. We got to stop rewarding bad behavior and selfish mindsets. Cars don’t drive themselves people drive them. Just like all the expired temp tags or cars with no plates at all. Anyways this is heartbreaking & a reminder that people who live in St.Louis need to be better than this cause this is another bad representation on all people who live in St.Louis

Somebody got mad at me, because I mentioned that the last time I visited St. Louis that there was a sense of lawlessness in the city that I had not seen in almost any other city. People were running red lights, I saw people breaking into cars on Lindell in broad daylight, people riding on expired tags, etc. I mean what the hell is going on with law enforcement in the region and why are repeated offenders free to roam the streets and cause havoc. I understand that every city has challenges with poverty and crime, but it's almost like St. Louis is purposely sabotaging itself. I've also been saying for the longest that leadership really needs to step up it's infrastructure and law enforcement presence in downtown. They need to get rid of the one way streets, lane reductions, cameras, and more police.

Watch it Goat. An Urbanstl hard azz will come after you!
What are the odds the car that hit the poor girl has expired tags. I’m going with 3-1 odds.

Woman was run down and killed in the south loop this afternoon. Chicago is doomed.
