Hear these guns, open parking lots becoming more and more a problem Downtown. Mayor talking about paying reparations while Downtown sounds like war zone and before a genius says it doesn’t sound like a war zone I have a combat patch!

It doesn’t sound like a war zone.  I spent 1100 days in a war zone.
What do you want the Mayor to do? There is a sheriff dept car with lights on 100 feet north of it.  Blame the state for making it pretty much undistinguishable between a criminal with a gun and a “good guy” with a gun

She and the aldermans can do something to close those open parking lots and yes it does I spent 200 days in real combat (reason I got a combat patch). Just because you escaped a war zone doesn’t mean you fought in one.

Is the State the biggest problem probably but hiding from reality and only seen the good in DT is also part of the problem.

Yeah cause you know me. Start respecting others opinions just like they teach you at your job. Drama queen? Lol. Funny! There’s no worst citizen than the one who doesn’t want to accept reality and lie to yourself to make you think STL is an Utopia. We all wish STL can become a better city but so far there’s no indication of it. I wonder why you stopped posting city homicides, oh I know why because right now it doesn’t fit your fake utopia.
This is petty. There's zero need to debate who has had the unfortunate experience of living in a warzone or serving in a warzone. Both might seem the same but aren't in my view. But why even bring this up?

As far as the hit on homicides in the city go, the city is at 184 for the year (according to the SLMPD). The city ended last year with 200 and ended 2020 with 263. Unless there are 16 homicides the remainder of the year, the city will be below last year. While having one homicide is even too much, the numbers are certainly better than the 2020 bloodbath. And this is just the homicide statistics. I assume crime is down in other categories as well. This is a conversation for the crime thread.

In response to the bolded part, we all know the reality the city is in. The city goes through good and bad times, and it has over the years. It's the way things go. When you see hints of things to be optimistic at, it's ok to get excited. Most, if not all, members of this forum have their moments. Some have learned, overtime, to the skeptical about some things.

The worst citizen is one who always sees things from a pessimistic lens. And as far as the no indication that St. Louis is becoming a better city comment, that's false. The city has gotten far more diverse over the years, some neighborhoods have come roaring back, some have been stabilized and others need some love. No other city in this country has lost the percentage of population St. Louis has, so there's a lot of work. But to say St. Louis isn't improving is a false statement reserved only to those who live in the suburbs who'd be damned if they ever had to step foot into the city for anything other than a sports event.

And thought November 2021 there was 202 homicides (including 20 justifiable)
And this through this November 192 (including 12 justifiable). Narrative. ✅

Ask Coatar about it, he bragged about his useless and toothless parking lot bill as progress for Downtown.  That parking lot looks pretty open and unguarded.

That’s why he lost the election! He is part of the problem as well. STL just needs creative alderman, people with vision, people that has seen the world and worked abroad to bring new ideas to the old fashioned midwest.

He's still the current alder for Downtown, so if these things bug you, prod him.

Well he is retiring so I doubt he is going to be that receptive to calls for action.

Legal Services of Eastern Missouri will move downtown(from CWE) to the Peabody building and take the entire 11 floor and part of the 12th for its 90 employees and 50 interns.
With a great deal of quality office space available at low rental rates, downtown has a lot to offer nonprofit organizations.  LSEM joins the BBB and a host of other nonprofits that are already downtown.  It would be great to see more of them move to the CBD - perhaps this could become a trend.

This is great.  Especially with 1711 getting a new owner (who knows on the plans), hopefully this block has a lot of upward momentum.

Wifey and I stayed at the Last Hotel and had dinner at Blood and Sand Friday night. The hotel, restaurant, and the stretch of Wash Ave we were near was a ghost town. We heard one jack*ss with one of those exhaust do-dads that makes his car sound like a drive-by shooting do a few laps around the block, but it was otherwise very quiet.

Saturday morning was more of the same. Rooster was packed (took us a minute to realize we were in the old Dubliner, a pleasant surprise), but everywhere else appeared to be closed. Some activity around ballpark village but the rest of DT might as well have been abandoned.

It was cold, we mostly were in a typically less-busy part of the district, the plural of anecdote is not data, our experience is not representative, blah blah blah excuses, but it was nonetheless extremely disheartening that there was absolutely nobody out in what should be a busy entertainment district at a busy time of the year.

^Wash Ave is just not the popular district right now. The area around the Last Hotel is always a ghost town. I’ve never heard a single one of my friends say “let’s go to Wash Ave tonight”. It should be a bustling district for shopping and nightlife but it is not.

You are correct. The options for nightlife are quite different from my youth. I was at my loft property this weekend, touching up paint and reminiscing of heading out to the Dubliner, Side Bar, Flanerys and even Lucas park. Those were some fun times. I am optimistic though with the MLS stadium and the recent uptick in loft construction and the AHM proposal. Maybe we can get some activity back, and some life to that area.

^thank you both. My wife and I were speculating that the reason is just that we're old and out of touch (my 40th bday being the occasion) and that the scene has just changed as scenes do. I have become grandpa simpson:

Why would you go to Wash Ave when you could instead go to "THE BIGGEST BAR IN STL".

The “going out” area of downtown is now this and it’s gone as many predicted- it replaced the places someone listed above on Washington Ave

Now it’s 360, Wheelhouse, Start Bar, Midwestern, Tin Roof, Shark Bar, Crown Room, PBR, Bally’s Live, Sports & Social, Brewhouse, Cardinals Nation and the rest of the village
