^ I share Jstriebel sentiments. Might be overhyped but it is successful, has a following in a big city way, and founder is St. Louis native. Nice to see him finally commit to his hometown. I think every hometown guy who does good should go back and find way to put some of that back or at least try. If it doesn't work it doesn't work.

Also found it odd that the native guy couldn't find a way to open a place in his hometown every time I flew into JFK on Delta and walked by Shake Shack in terminal 4 (overhype part of paying a steep airport price for a shake that is alright). Especially considering that St Louis does have some legitimate foodie claims. Like Square, nice to see a change for the better and a little bit of that success and pride making it way back to St. Louis

^^^Yes, I was referring to a Twitter office....
His residence? Really.....?

Dredger, that was my point...I agree completely. Currently, Detroit is reaping the benefits of a hometown guy, rebuilding their downtown, building by building. If only our native sons/daughters would do the same. We have some pretty heavy-hitters, born and raised here. We need a central figure to unite these individuals and form a civic group, to find ways to invest and attract investment in our City. If only we had a true leader in our town, to lead that charge.

I would settle for a billionaire with mayoral ambitions used to life in New York. That would be nice for a while. If the tea party can tempt Donald Trump into running for president, why couldn't Dorsey be tempted to run against Slay? It would be hilarious.

FWIW, Dorsey lives in SF mostly.

PostFeb 12, 2016#105

He'd also need to live here full time for 5 years first. He could not do what Deray is attempting in Baltimore.

Because Trump can make a fortune off of becoming president... lobbying for business laws that will help himself and all the free publicity of having his name plastered everywhere. (Even though the president only make a few hundred thousand a year).

Dorsey doesn't have that incentive to run for St. Louis Mayor. He can make more money by focusing on Square. Smaller city politics aren't as financially lucrative as national politics.

I think a more realistic candidate might be Gabe Lozano. He has a business in the City and has been open about what needs to happen to grow the City's tech industry. He has also invested in Downtown. He might be the better candidate, than a former STL resident, that comes back occasionally to speak at functions and visit his family.

Shake Shack may be overhyped but it's way better than Steak N Shake.

I didn't find that to be the case especially when taking into account value for money.

^ Not everyone is in business to have a race to the bottom. This is good for St. Louis and the CWE.

Small group of US cities. We're the first Midwestern location outside of Chicago. I know it helps that he's from St. Louis, but he wouldn't make a bad business decision just to make STL happy. Speaks volumes about the recent and future success of CWE, hopefully other companies see that.

NextSTL's update article includes a new rendering. Looks like they continue to tweak the design. Anyone know what the actual facade material is?

Not a great picture... but site clear a few days ago. Still wish this building could be a few stories taller.

^ I have no idea what he is trying to accomplish by this "predictions" Twitter account. Seems like it's just caused mass confusion all around

Is it legit predictions based on legit sources. Is it like our year beginning predictions where we toss all kinds of nonsense up there. Who knows

If true, you'd think they would have delayed it a little sooner than after starting on the foundation. I know sunk cost fallacy and all that, but it's weird to stop after a contract has been signed and costs have been literally sunk into the ground considering how quick they have moved on everything.

The other consideration is that Geoff says delayed. Delayed could mean any number of things, including stopping for redesign for newly discovered ground issues or something like that. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
