I drove on FPP earlier (Forest Park Parkway) and I see all these trucks and vans with filming equipment. Are they filming a movie in Forest Park?

It might be that Ligeia movie that is shooting around town. They've been at The Meridian downtown all week, and were at WashU last Saturday.

Actually it is not in the Merdian. The building next to the Merdian is the annex to the AD Brown (Merdian) and is the Taylor Building. They are shooting in my friends loft.

They were crawling all over the merdian. I would bet they just used it as a staging area, with that large retail space open...that was where a i saw most of them.

I didn't know there were lofts in there. I guess I wasn't sure what was in there. Where is the entrance?

They are not really "Lofts" there are spaces for artist and some other fairly raw spaces. I had lived there up til recently and we got to build out our space ( :) ). You enter from St. Charles.

Something tells me they aren't filming the whole movie in your friend's loft. ;) I heard from a reliable source that they filmed a scene on 7th floor at the Meridian a bit ago.

Yes, they are shooting around a few places. The Director was part of the crew on Ghost Image and they had to use our place to get the lighting equipment onto the roof of Copia and he liked the look of our place and wanted to use it for this movie.

Actually, it was the Location Scout, and the Producer who worked on Ghost Image. This Director never worked on Ghost Image.

SciFi channel has been playing Showdown at Area 51, filmed in St. Louis (and, it seems, Potosi) last year. From what I can gather of the plot, Bob Cassilly's Enchanted Caves at City Museum house a doomsday weapon.

Director back in Alton for latest movie

By STEPHANIE KISZCZAK

The Telegraph

January 5, 2008 - 9:06AM

Director Brian Jun, far right, works with a film crew to set up a shot at the old Alton post office on the corner of Third and Alby streets Saturday morning.

Jim Bowling

ALTON — Two girls with big hair and bright-colored clothing smoked cigarettes outside a Broadway bar Friday night.

They barely lit up as they turned to watch three people exit the bar. The trio walked into the street, then stopped as someone yelled, “Cut!”

Alton native Brian Jun is back, directing his newest indie film, “The Thacker Case,” which is based on a crime committed in Marshalltown, Iowa, in 1983.

According to the Internet Movie Database, “the story centers on the mysterious death of repeat drunk driving offender Thacker and the discovery of his body in an alley behind the Marshalltown, Iowa, police department after his latest DUI arrest.”

SENT VIA THE STLFILMWIRE:

Coming Next Week: Wednesday, March 12 MCA Meeting

URGENT MEETING: MO FILM INDUSTRY THREATENED

-- FILM OFFICE COULD CLOSE IN JUNE;

NEAR-BY STATES RAMP UP THE COMPETITION

MO Film Commissioner Jerry Jones To Speak

by Mike Ketcher

The St. Louis chapter of the Media Communications Association

International (MCA-I, www.stlmca.com) is kicking it into high gear this month,

with a crucial "State

of the Industry" Town Hall meeting. The state's budding film production

industry, coming off of its most successful two years in history, is

being threatened. Jerry Jones, Missouri's film commissioner, will be at

this meeting to fill us in on the details. Many other industry leaders

will take part.

Funding for the MO Film Commission is slated to run out later this

year, which would leave MO as one of the few states without a film

commission. The governor has proposed funding it for one more year, but that

must be passed by the state legislature -- and, as we know from past

experience, ANYTHING can happen in the MO legislature. The MO Film

Commission promotes the film industry outside the state and works with film

producers to bring their films here. So, losing it would be a serious

blow to the industry.

What's more, many nearby Midwestern states -- including Kansas,

Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin -- are ramping up the

competition to attract more feature films, television shows, and

big-budget commercials to their states. Also, the Canadian provinces and several

other states are upping the ante to attract more production.

It's a hotly competitive industry, and MO is in danger of falling far

behind,

unless new measures are taken soon to boost production. The higher cap

on the tax credit, passed last year, is already becoming outmoded.

Over 60% of films are shot outside of California -- and MO could get a

much bigger chunk of that business, with the right laws in place.

This will be an urgent Town Hall Meeting on the future of the

production industry

here. Not only will Jerry Jones be there, but so will the leaders of

the new state-wide industry group, MOMMA (MO Motion Media Association,

www.mommaonline.org), other members of the MO Film Commission, union

leaders, and local independent producers.

This is not only an opportunity for you to find out the latest about

what's

going on -- including movies that could be coming to St. Louis and MO

later this

year -- but to share your ideas about building the industry here.

While there are some threats to the industry here, there's also some good

news, and you'll

hear about that, as well.

We need input from everyone. This will be an anything-goes,

no-holds-barred, brainstorming discussion, where you can say what's on your mind.

If you have a beef -- or a bright idea -- bring it to the meeting.

Or if you just want to listen and learn about what's going on in the

industry and how you can help bring more films to Missouri, please come.

It'll also be a wonderful networking opportunity, and we'll have plenty

of munchies and refreshments.

Who should attend this meeting:

-- All union members and leadership, including IATSE, AFTRA, SAG, and

EQUITY.

-- All vendors to the film/commercial industry: equipment rental

houses, talent

agents, casting directors, still photographers, caterers, and so forth.

-- Local filmmakers, especially those who would like to get access to

tax credits

and MO Film Commission help. The new law will help you, and you can

learn more about it.

-- Non-union personnel, including PAs, extras, and bit players.

-- Film and media communications students who want to see more paying

work and opportunities in MO when you get out of school.

-- Corporate and industrial producers and staff. Even if you don't work

on films

or big-budget TV commercials, a thriving film industry will help you.

More feature film work improves the crew/talent level and increases the

talent base. In this town, corporate video employs more local talent

and crews than any feature film or big budget commercial that comes to

town. However, feature and commercial work, along with local corporate

production, help crew and talent to make a living in this market,

improve skills, and stay in town.

In short, if you're connected with this industry in any way -- or you

want to

be -- we want you to come to this meeting.

Not quite St. Louis, but I'm sure some people from here will find work on the shoot.

The Informant to shoot in Decatur (IL) in April / May

From WTHITV.com: Film crews working on a movie about price-fixing at agricultural processor Archer Daniels Midland in the 1990s will come to Decatur this spring.

A spokeswoman for "The Informant" says parts of the movie will be filmed in Decatur in April and May. The movie is based on the 2000 book of the same name by Kurt Eichenwald (EYE'-ken-wald) and stars Matt Damon as an ADM executive who was an informant for the FBI.

Decatur-based Archer Daniels Midland was fined $100 million for conspiring to fix the prices of food additives lysine and citric acid. Three ADM executives, including informant Mark Whitacre, were sent to prison.

The movie is being directed by Steven Soderbergh. He won the Oscar for best director in 2001 for "Traffic."
