So what brings you here?

St. Louis is a neat city with great sports and a lot of history. I went to school here and started paying attention to the restoration of the city. I was fascinated. I love the fact that the majority of condos are lofts. Ever since I saw the movie Big when I was a kid I wanted a loft and a pinball machine to go along with it.

What part of St. Louis are you from?

I am from St. Charles(The Chuck) Originally from Chicago though.

How old are you?

25

What do you do/or study?

Im a pharmacist.

I've posted enough on this forum I figured I should finally introduce myself as well.

So what brings you here?

My parents as I was born here.

What part of St. Louis are you from?

North County but from age 10 to 16 my dad took me to junior tennis camp everyday throughout the summers at Tower Grove Park. He worked at SLU for 33 years and gave me great exposure to the city at a young age. And now I have a great tennis game to boot!

How old are you?

43 going on like 30 (guess I am one of the old men of this group)

What do you do/or study?

I'm an Art Director for an ad agency downtown. I work in the Art of Living Building. I am also a realtor with my main focus on downtown. My girlfriend and I have lived in the loft district for nearly 5 years now. We started out at Printer's, sold and went to Moon Brother's. Sold there and now live very happily at The Syndicate (Love this development!)

(The Ultimate St Louis "Get to Know You" question) What High School did you go to ?

It's great to see so many newcomers on this forum in the last month or so- especially since you are all either living in the city proper already or planning to move into the city. It's also encouraging to see that some of you (like me) cannot answer the local "get to know you" question with a local high school- perhaps there's a greater influx of people from outside the area than many St. Louisans have come to expect? :)

I consider it a mark of both the rise and the inevitable decline of St. Louis as a super-city that there is a forum for it's development.

These things never go well.

And that is why this is so perfectly right!

jawesome. Glad to be aboard in the Lou.

My entire family lives in this area , so naturally , I keep migrating back here.

In regards to this site ,

I found it looking for info on what is to be the end result of the Carondelet Rec. Center Project.

I hated this City , and State , for years. But as of late , I have seen some great things done by Mayor Slay and others toward a better tomorrow , as well as realizing it is more of the same everywhere else.

For a Democrat region with conservative politics/principles , yes I know that's oxymoronic though true, the City is showing some good promise , aside from the terrible racial issues.

I work for the City , and most days enjoy doing so.

I am a fairly pragmatic and opinionated person , so I won't disclose my specific position.

Many people don't wish to hear the truth or accept reality.

I have lived from St Peters to Florissant to the South side (currently Carondelet neighborhood) with a little Maplewood , Ofallon and St Charles in between.

Yes, that's a lot , and that doesn't include more numerous locations in central Ohio , or several other states.

As I said , I keep migrating back to this area.

I've been a permanent resident of the City since 1994 now.

I'm 43 , and the schools I attended in this area as I recall are:

Louis and Clark school district

Francis Howell School district

St Charles School District

Immaculate Conception (Dardenne ...sp?)

and finally , Ritenour Sr.

If only more people would leave and come back St. Louis would be a much better place.

What part of St. Louis are you from?

Grew up in Spanish Lake, moved to Florissant when I got married...currently divorced in O'Fallon and can't wait to get out...

My mom grew up in South City so I spent a lot of time in my younger years at my grandparent's place on Connecticut or my aunt's place in Hampton Gardens.

How old are you?

41, by the looks of things I am in the minority here being both 'old' and female...''

What do you do/or study?

I am an IT Business Analyst at AAA Missouri headquarters.

(The Ultimate St Louis "Get to Know You" question) What High School did you go to ?

Hazelwood East '85

I love, love, love the city. I have put a ton of miles on my car in the last few years going back and forth from O'Fallon. My goal is to be in a loft downtown by the end of the year (I am getting ready to put my house on the market in the next few months). I've been lurking here for months - this place is a wealth of great information!!!!

I went to a Blockbuster here in New Orleans for the first time in a long time. So I didn't have my card. I therefore handed my ID over to the cashier. He looks at the ID, and quickly looks up and said, "What high school did you go to?"...

I was stunned for a second, too slow to realize that he had seen my STL address on my ID and must have been from St. Louis himself, but then I came to and just laughed. His face was as serious as could be though. He had no idea why I thought it was funny that those very stereotypical words were his very first words to me.

For the record, he went to U City.

Its a small world. My wife is a Clarksvillian and went to CHS. She was probably one year behind you. She talks about Shawn Marion too. C-ville is a nice little town getting eaten alive by sprawl. Welcome to STL!

My name is Jennifer and I'm the Real Estate Manager for St. Louis Metro Transit. I'm also one member of the Metro blog team (we blog at NextStopSTL.org), and I spend my time working partially on real estate issues and partially on special projects, including Metro's long-range plan (MovingTransitForward.org), and Metro's TOD committee. I'm a huge fan of urban living, love a car-free life (though I currently don't have one; I'm moving into the City - hopefully Benton Park or The Grove - in July 2010). I was educated in both Missouri and Portland, Oregon, that mecca of urbanism, where I went car-free and biked or rode transit everywhere. You can reach me at Jennifer@nextstopstl.org if you want to chat, debate, ask me any Metro-related questions, or give me tips on finding a great rental house in the city this summer!

Hi, all.

I recently moved here from San Diego. My girlfriend of 6 years is in school at SLU med, which is what brought me here.

What do I do? Other than trying to constantly figure out my life, I recently started my own business - Urbhub. I am trying to learn Spanish, like to run, and drink one too many glasses of wine and/or beer on occasion.

Thanks for having me here, look forward to learning quality local info - as well as passing it along to my readers.

Cheers,
Brad

Hello Urban STL!

After a couple of years lurking on this site I decided it was time to join. I don't currently live in St. Louis, however upon my graduation from the University of Missouri in Columbia I plan to make the move to the Gateway City. As a native Columbian, my love for St. Louis started at a young age with trips to the zoo, Arch and Union Station. I find St. Louis to be such an incredible city that is blessed with a history and unique people that many American cities can't match, (I say this as a reasonably well-traveled individual). St. Louis is a city on the rebound and I can't wait to be part of its renaissance and future. Anyway, I look forward to being a part of the dialogue of this site!
