Ah.. the Brentwood Forest swimming pool. I don't think I've ever been to another pool where human courtship / selection rituals were so obviously on display.

2. Georgetown

3. The Pavilion

So true. I didn't live in The Pavilion when I first moved here, but I lived in a smaller nearby complex called Whisper Hollow, which might as well be part of The Pavilion since it's so close. Thankfully, though, it was much smaller than The Pavilion, and I didn't have to cross busy Bennington Avenue with an overstuffed laundry basket in one arm and a bottle of Tide in the other.

Maryland Heights is okay, but if I had it to do over again, there's no way I would've chosen it over city living. Even the other two complexes (Brentwood Forest and Georgetown) are in much better locations IMHO.

That's a damn good theory, BTW. :)

So, what brings you here?

I came here for law school and stayed. I have ties to the area, though, as my mom grew up in the City and U-City (Greek flight! ) and we would come to town a few times a year to visit. I learned recently that my granddad grew up in Lewis Place and I'm trying to find out which house it was.

As to the forum, I regularly read a lot of St. Louis focused sites (blogs, mainly) and found this one to be full of information on current issues and developments while being a great source of entertainment.

What part of the STL are you from?

I'm from the SEMo part. From Downtown, take a right on Broadway, drive about 1,368 blocks and then make another right and you're there. I'm currently living in WG, though. Hopefully ONSL is in my future.

What do you do, or study?

Corporate law. Yeah, I know...boo, hiss.

(The Ultimate St Louis "Get to Know You" question) What High School did you go to ?

Thomas W. Kelly High School. My preschool teacher was Mrs. Summers. I hope at least one is relevant for social ranking purposes.

Geez, this kind of makes me sound like an a-asterisk-asterisk. I'm not, really.

The old version of Brentwood Forest was Audobon Park, which I think is still across the street, no?

When the Football Cardinals moved here from Chicago in 1960 my parents along with half the team lived there.

So, what brings you here?

UMSL hired me away from Mississippi State last spring. Also, there were a lot more job opportunities for my wife here. She teaches German at Hixson. We were attracted by the cultural resources, and the far less punishing climate than Mississippi. Saint Louis is a great town with some actual urbanism going in it.

What part of the STL are you from?

I live in U City, but we're looking at condos in the City, primarily in Skinky-D and DeBaliveire Place.

Post photos if you want.

I found this site through some others.

I'm not from St. Louis. I'm from Southeast Missouri 2 1/2-3 hours from St. Louis. I love the city and visit a few times a year, though, mostly for hockey and baseball games.

I am 18.

I'm currently a Senior in HS and then I will attend a 2-year Junior College called TRCC for 2 years. I'm not sure what for you.

I'm not from St. Louis, but I go to a high school of about 200-250. My dad went to Elementary School in St. Louis, and my Mom lived in East St. Louis for a few months as a baby. My bro-in-law was born in St. Louis as well, and grew up there.

Welcome to all the newcomers!

STLCardsBlues1989- My path to Saint Louis is somewhat similar to yours. My parents are from East St. Louis, and moved to Belleville in the early 1970s (where I was born). Not long after that, my dad was transferred to Poplar Bluff and then to Farmington, where I spent most of my childhood (counting down the days until I could get out of that podunk hellhole). I got my bachelors degree from Southeast Missouri State, so I spent a little over four years in Cape Girardeau before I made the move here.

(I assume Three Rivers is still quite the basketball powerhouse? Those Three Rivers-Mineral Area matchups were can't miss games when I was a younger lad growing up in southeast Missouri.)

I'm going to TRCC (Poplar Bluff) for 2 years first.

Two reasons:

1. I don't know my Major yet, so I'll take some general classes at TRCC.

2. I could only afford anything in St. Louis if I got a scholarship, which I won't, not of that magnitude anyway.

I really don't follow TRCC basketball. All the sports stores carry is North Carolina stuff because of Tyler Hansbrough.

Hibbets carries lots of Cardinals and stuff and some Rams stuff. Good luck finding anything with Blues on it any closer than Cape Girardeau.

^ Sounds like you've got a good plan. I'm 33 and attending graduate school, and I still haven't a clue of what I want to be when I grow up.

After two years at TRCC, you can always look into St. Louis area schools then. You've got several quality choices in and around the city.

(I didn't know Poplar Bluff had a Hibbett's- at least you have a steady source of some St. Louis sports merchandise.)

Hello to all. As they would say on the radio, I'm a "long time listener, first time caller".

My name is Joel and I'm a senior at Drury University down in Springfield MO. I've always been a big fan of all things St. Louis and this website has helped satisfy my appetite between the handful of times a year I get to visit.

I'm also considering going to SLU someday to get a masters in Urban Planning and Real Estate Development. I know many of the distinguished members of this internet community are doing just that, and if any of them would like to throw tips, advice, and/or opinions my way, I would be very appreciative.

But thats about it, so I better get back to work. Friday afternoons are killer!
