Steelcote is such a weirdly unconnected neighborhood. The Top Golf for instance is completely walled off from the neighborhood with only an auto-oriented entrance on Choutaeu. This is despite the fact that it looks like they built the building entrance to line up perfectly with Papin.

Always thought it would be easy enough to take down the fence or part of it, if the area develops out more. I am a little surprised papin isn’t open to it, at least to walk. I could see them not wanting through traffic though.

And in typical St. Louis fashion, every news article on social is littered with drivel about theft, crime, etc.

Why can't we ever celebrate or enjoy a single thing?

Target appears to be open. Had to kill a bit of time before Topgolf opened today and drove thru the area to see what it looked like.

People were bringing stuff out to their car in carts and there was a now open sign hung up on it.

There are some of those urban Targets in Chicago that are pretty darn small and limited. Good to hear this one has good coverage.

^I wish them much success and I'll stop by. :) I don't imagine it'll be too likely to draw me away from the Chipewa Target, since that's probably a little closer, but it'll be a nice change of pace and if I'm coming back from Midtown for some reason or other it will be convenient. :) Nice to see it lit up and with some life.

It's a shame they didn't put sidewalks on Papin between the new Target and the Steelcote apartments (or for anyone accessing via Chouteau).

Any thoughts on when Steelcote announces next project?  Would I be correct in saying that it would be infill?  They seem to have put together an overall vision and slowly but surely build it out one piece at a time, add revenue stream one piece at a time, and now looking forward to see what they do next.

Between Foundry, Steelcote, Armory and the one that didn't happen across Grand from Steelcote you got 2 very solid developments moving forward, 1 that almost came together but definitely in limbo and the 4th that I can't name for the live of me was/is realistically several years out before the demand is truly there.   Big for the area in my opinion and as everyone has noted, and if the city/stakeholders/greenway can keep focus on more connections, more connectivity, more grid will only help the momentum.

The random lot in front of top golf was getting cleared out last week. Hopefully the owners sold to someone.

^ I don't see any recent sales transactions or permits; looks like it's still owned by Lux Living.

^^ The only thing new I recall from a Steelcote site plan (part of a leasing brochure) was a hotel.

I took the Metro to the Target on Grand today to pick up a few things. I was a little surprised how bad the sidewalk on the Grand bridge still is—just a compressed layer of ice, and pretty slick/dangerous to traverse.

I guess since the bridge is city property, it is not the responsibility of Target/the Edwin/Pier Property Group like the (cleared) sidewalks on their property, and the city did not care to clear. This is disappointing since I think that Target is something the city should want people to be able to access for a variety of reasons—a viable shopping destination for people who are dependent on public transport, accessible by MetroLink and the heaviest volume bus line, and a business that, if successful, serves as good advertisement for the city and can drive interest from other retailers.

I actually looked this up this AM when thinking about the snow / ice on Jefferson.  Yes, it is the cities responsibility to clear the sidewalks on bridges.

I agree.Grand is a major thoroughfare. Many pedestrians  (at this point)  not only in the city but in the entire region have defaulted to walking in the streets because the sidewalks are slick and dangerous. That's not possible on much of Grand.  The sidewalks should be cleared

And people ought to be fined if they don't clear the sidewalk on their property, yes.

Looks like further iteration that the next phase of Steelcote will be a hotel.

^ thanks for posting the link to the article.   Enjoyed and liked the ariel photo included was good but would have been killer with the Edwin/Target in it.

Steelcote can probably pull off a development in the near future  like the one proposed across with Grand with Residential/Commercial/Office.   Think hotel would be great, maybe infill with a medical arts building and get another loft/residential project kicked off.    Somehow add a nice public pocket park/dog park into the mix.

Surprised we haven't heard anymore from this area.

Unrelated,  how is the Target doing?

Not sure how Target is doing.  The Edwin is struggling with leasing.

Exactly.  Poor absorption.  Successful absorption would be at least 12 units per month.  Including pre leasing efforts.
