i read somewhere that the hyatt is hosting some free casual shows on fridays i think. i was going see erin bode last friday, but my happy hour turned into happy night - totally missed it.
Sounds like my kind of place. And I like the name.
I haven't had a cigarette in 20 years, but most of the folks I eat out with are smokers, and they may resist going to a non-smoking restaurant. Seems maybe smoking could be allowed in the patio area?

Hyatt does the free entertainment in their Grand Hall, one of the acoustically worst venues in the area. I went to hear Erin Bode a month ago and won't be back

^Makes you wonder then how the fight scene of "Escape from New York" worked acoustically in the Grand Hall.
Oh bloody hell. Casual family dining with signature burgers?? How am I going to decide between the shrimp ploppers, pizza wipers and totally extreme fajitas to the max? Or "The Shed's World Famous chicken wangs?" I can't wait for the interior decorator to show up with a mack-truck full of old street signs, neglected musical instruments, and obsolete fishing equipment and take a dump all over the walls. I wonder how many pieces of flare the waiters are going to have to wear? I wonder how many colors of margaritas they will have? I wonder what clever and heartwarming carol the contented staff will sing for me on my birthday? SO many burning questions!!!!!
If you like good food, good fun and... a whole lot of crazy crap on the walls, then come on down to Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag.

Is this the space on the East side of the doors (Houlihan's being on the West side)? If so, it's been probably 10 different things in the last 20 years.
I'll give this new place a year, two tops.
All I can remember is 3 tenants in that slot. Casa Gallardo up until 5 years ago. A short stint by Kriegers and KC Masterpiece recently and then this place.
What are the other 6 or 7 places I've missed?

I might have engaged in a bit of hyperbole, but I'm pretty sure CG wasn't the first tenant. My memory may be a bit hazy....

I can appreciate your tongue and cheek, but if you look around St. Louis, that's what them folks like. I personally would not go to those type of places, too campy, but St. Louis loves the Branson atmosphere. As for Union Station, the hokier the better, after all most of the people who go to Union Station are pretty hoky too and the stores are starting to be that way also. Won't be long until the few remaining good stores pull out or get run out. If the Shed wants to succeed in Union Station, they better get Jethro to do the interior, after all, this is not Chicago.TGE-ATW wrote:Oh bloody hell. Casual family dining with signature burgers?? I just got back from Chicago, and they have plenty of Jethro dining up there as well.
I also talked to the Shed people earlier today, and there's an interesting hook to their otherwise predictable bar food.
And joining the two thoughts, perhaps their next spinoff could be The Shed at The Shedd.

I guess we'll have to wait for your review to find out what it is?
Naw, just when the restaurant news for Thursday's paper gets posted on the website sometime tomorrow.

I not sure what the interesting twist will be, but on all their windows and right under their new Corona neon sign they have the following:bonwich wrote:Naw, just when the restaurant news for Thursday's paper gets posted on the website sometime tomorrow.
"Burgers, Brats, and Brews, 100% Missouri Made"
I guess Corona is now made in Missouri. Must be a stil in the Ozarks or the border is a little closer than I thought.

Hmmmm....I guess it depends how you define "made". It is a St. Louis beer, or at least 50% of it is.

Isn't there a Mexico, MO?? "Hecho en Mexico, MO" would work just as well, would it not?

Yes, that's my hometown. I was also "hecho en Mexico, MO".

I know, but this thread to an extent has been trying to figure out how to make Union Station succeed and become an asset to the city of St. Louis again, not how to compound its tourist-trap death spiral.

The only thing cool going on at Union Station is the Fudge Factory (I think that's the name? Been too long since I've been there) and Hooters...which...isn't Hooters moved out of US now?

About 17 years ago there was a French bakery in this location. I can't remember the name but it was a national chain.
Are you sure you're not thinking of Fedora? I think it was the first occupant of that space, and those were Union Station's glory days. One of the powers behind Fedora was a guy named Bill Cardwell, whose name you might recognize.
Joe: what was the name of the restaurant that first occupied the spot where Starbucks is now in Union Station? I remember it being pretty nice with lots of chrome and black steel.
Heck: I remember when the first Eddie Bauer and Banana Republic in St. Louis were at Union Station.
