I honestly don't dislike KC. I think it has a unique western feel to it definitely doesn't feel midwest at all. KC is one of the largest cities in this country and you would think they'd have population more than 450,000. I technically look at St.Louis City and county the same.So to me St.Louis is a city of 1.3 million but since the they are both divorced the city is only 310,000 and the county hovering around 1 million. Kansas City is getting most of its regional population growth on the Kansas side. .

KC is laid back with a western feel. STL feels much bigger and is a lot more dynamic. STL is much cooler.

I remember seeing someone not the relationship St. Louis has with Chicago, Kansas City has a similar dynamic in relation to Dallas. And it might explain the feel. Also, social and business connections might play to some of this.

USA today reported today that businesses across the area are boarding up windows. Not. Good. Furthermore, please patronize your favorite downtown businesses while there is still time, as several people commenting on Ferguson-oriented posts are talking about rioting in Downtown. This is just a horrendous situation, and these people are beginning to act like terrorists. Prayers and hope that all is well when this ruling comes down.

^ i'm sure USA Today has nothing to gain by sensationalizing the situation. is USA Today even considered an actual news source? as for the reader comments, you can probably find a threat to riot in every comment section regardless of the topic.

True, however the point is quite legitimate. Since I am not currently in the STL area, is this as intense as people are making it seem? As in, are people actually going to be evacuating, as one person commented? I would highly doubt this is true as St. Louisans dont seem to be like that type of people? Also just an interesting tid bit of info, STL Hotels are seeing average if not above average bookings. Interesting.

I think at this point it is severely overblown. We will see what happens though.

I think there is a TON of hype and panic regarding this situation. It has created a 'Y2K-type' panic. Hopefully, when the GJ decision is released, the story fizzles just like Y2K. I do think there will be widespread protests and some of them will get out of hand, but I do not expect this to get out of hand like it did back in August. This time law enforcement will be ready. Last time, they had to learn on the fly. Lessons have been learned. They've had a while to plan for this.

One of the good things about STL City is its relatively good financial shape.... PEW Trust study shows it is among the minority of cities to have recovered its pre-recession revenue levels by 2012:

According to the Pew study, St. Louis was helped by having a revenue mix that includes income and sales taxes. Cities that are heavily dependent on property taxes were hit hard by the real-estate downturn.

I has seen reference to this report in Cincy media, where the Queen City was also doing well... with earnings tax by far its largest source of revenue. As a smarter man than I once said, "Suck it, Sinquefield!"

Classic over reaction because of fear. Turn off the coverage and grab a work out, man.

I think at the end i would hope this wakes all of us up to make St.Louis best city it can ever be. The city has been down for far so long its time to bring it up . We all need to come together cause the end we all need each other..

O Man,
Colbert had a good one yesterday:
http://thecolbertreport.cc.com/videos/w ... louis-rams

He showed the protests then said,
"These demonstrations are a sobering reminder that St. Louis still exists....I thought they were supposed to leave ages ago through that stargate they built. (shows pic of arch with a stargate) then says, "Now is a good times guys!"

I'm sure everyone has seen the SNL spoof of a generic STL morning new show. Here it is if you haven't.
http://www.ksdk.com/story/life/2014/12/ ... /20082235/

I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was really a commentary on just how stupid everything has become.

In my opinion, American society has become a victim of successful "divide and conquer" tactics brought to us my our wonderful politicians. It's sad to see how much we have gone down the tubes in the last ten years. Life in America is nearly unrecognizable from ten years ago. Nobody seems real happy. I don't like nostalgia but I'm afraid the history books will portray the 90s much like the Roaring 20s and aughts and the 2010s as a very unhappy period. I was thinking this well before Ferguson. I feel for teenagers ans 20 somethings. They have been undermined and poisoned by political rhetoric. There's a psychological sickness that has taken over. Very ***** complex and weird times. It sucks.
