I’ve had several friends and family from out of town text or call me about seeing lots of St. Louis stuff on social media. The “sledding on the big hill looks fun, have you done that?” I think we’ve had a bit of a viral moment this week. It’s hard to know because my “for you pages” are always St. Louis but I think we have gotten into others algorithms with the snow videos.

It's like a space elevator but for the ground.

Welp, while we're on the Civil War theme: "Rather than concede to the State of Missouri for one single instant the right to dictate to my government in any matter however important, I would see you, and you, and you, and you, and every man, woman, and child in the State, dead and buried! This means war."

Brookings did a write-up discussing how to respond to and reverse "doom loop" in urban cores in America...and St Louis is the cited reference for their study. And then, additionally, the STL Construction Forum e-blast this morning features a response take to this Brookings study article. Both links below:

I felt the same way until I found out he was one of the main perpetrators of the California Genocide and personally led massacres that killed 100s of Indians.

Reading The Broken Heart of America, it turns out most of the people our streets are named after were truly awful

Just stumbled on this plastic model kit of a 1967 Corvette posed in front of the (not 1967) St. Louis skyline.

It is the STL skyline, but every building is in the wrong spot.

I was at the Factory in Chesterfield last Tuesday evening to see Andrew Lloyd Webber (St. Louis Speaker Series).  His talked and performance was absolutely delightful.
But what really intrigued me was his fascination with  STL Victorian architecture.

I'm surprised our # of homes with fire risk is as low as it is being such a forested area. West county looks particularly prone to a massively damaging wildfire one of these days

Some St. Louis homeowners are stunned to discover nuclear waste near their homes

oOOOOOOooooof. Hell of an indictment against St Louis...the way they wrote this stories narrative. Literally said, "St Louis isn't a very healthy place. Everyone's getting tumors", on CBS Mornings.... Well, in the lexicon of St Louis stories...this checks out I suppose...usually when a really good story comes out about our area, (NYT Old Courthouse article in this instance), something polar opposite and damning tends to follow shortly... *sigh*

^ to be precise, she was quoting something said in the past:
i first knew there was some problem when my mother died. her brother, who was a physician, took me aside and said, "Linda, I don't believe St. Louie is a very healthy place to live. Everyone on the street has a tumor."
it's unclear when her mother died, but it's mentioned right after the story references them moving to St. Louis in 1957.

just clarifying that it wasn't the news anchors saying "St. Louis is currently an unhealthy place to live."

Still..not a great soundbite to go out on the waves on national tv. People cling to blips like that. Ugh. Just more negative press for us...always frustrating.

What’s most frustrating is that no politician does anything about. Cori Bush could have fought to include this in the BBB or IRA and didn’t. Donald Trump promised to clean up the site 6 years ago - lies.
