^I believe some of it serves as a business/industrial park while other buildings are vacant.

Schlafly has stated several times that they would like some land for urban farming around the new brewery. I think Northside is the best and only area that can accommodate that in the city. I'm sure there are some contamination issues to overcome, but how great would it be to see them utilize the old Pruitt-Igoe site. Hopefully McKee can lock them up in the city by dangling his tax credits.

^ I believe Lemp Brewery site is already tied to a developer and not even a consideration since the buildings wouldn't facilitate a modern brewing operation of any substantial size.

I also believe Pruitt site is also a non-starter considering Schalfly, if not mistaken, is also looking for industrial rail access as the size of their brewing operation would be significantly larger then most local micro breweries and therefore benefit from rail access for its materials as well as significant industrial infrastructure (think water supply). At the end of day, I think the North Riverfront is one area that could handle both the brewery and an urban farm while providing all the industrial infrastructure that will be needed.

What I'm curious about is Green Street Properties supposedly has a couple of tenants lined up for its north river and south river business industrial developments sites. Is Schalfly one of the tenants? both industrial or at least the south river front business park has rail access. Maybe Brewhub is coming to a Green Street development. I just got that gut feeling that Green Street Properties

Solar panels seem to be going up all over St. Louis, this time on the roof of the new Urban Chestnut location in Forest Park Southeast.

The maker of Schlafly beer has postponed indefinitely plans to open a brewpub in Chicago.

Dan Kopman, co-founder of the St. Louis Brewery, said the craft brewer was recently notified by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission that it would not qualify for a brewpub license in the state.

My family of beer enthusiasts recently discovered the 4204 Main St. Brewing Company in Belleville and love it. It's nice for them to not have to drive across the river to go to a microbrew. Don't misunderstand this as animosity towards venturing into the city, I've argued for a long time that the Metro East proudly identifies with the city, but just a nice convenience.

Also, I've finally found Schlafly here in SE Virginia! The store has probably seen a 200% increase in Schlafly sales since I started shopping there, but it feels good to be supporting a St. Louis landmark company again.

Billy Busch brings home the gold with wins at the U.S. Open Beer Championship

"Sales are going well for the brewing company, up over 15 percent for the year so far. While Busch would not disclose specific revenue, he did say that if sales keep going like this, the company will be building a brewery in St. Louis — focusing on expanding at the roots. He estimates that the beers hold one and a half to two percent of the market in St. Louis right now."

Modern Brewing finally hitting the market in August. Tasting room coming later

http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/gutche ... rewery.php

Its actually pretty close to UCBC Grove - If Cathedral Sq. gets rolling next year it will be a nice little brewing district.

Looking forward to seeing what develops of Cherokee with the new brewery

Billy Busch on Channel 4 last evening discussing plans for STL Brewery within a few years. It's funny to think about the family name restarting an STL based beer operation. Obviously good news in the short term, but maybe one day future generations will watch it grow to the point of inevitable sale to an overseas powerhouse.

^ nice piece.... having something here in 3-4 years would be great. It would be really cool to have both Kraftig and Schlafly have new breweries in the city. Right across from each other. Seeing who can ship out the most.

I really love what Billy Busch is doing with Kräftig. He's really not hid the fact that he's making lagers intended for mass production that he hopes will ultimately compete with the company that spurned it's roots.

But he's also being very smart about how he's doing this. He's not expanding too fast. He's not building a brewery until he's ready.

Kräftig isn't my favorite beer in the same way that any mass-produced lager isn't, but it's a solid beer that goes down smooth, and I really, really hope Billy Busch is successful in growing that brewery.

Nice tidbit about urban chestnut expanding production. But curious if anyone has subscriber access to today's biz journal edition article and any more news that might be highlighted in the article. Seems kinda quiet lately on a couple of major brewery expansions from Schafly to setting up a brewhub (Can't recall the former AB exec name who got the brewhub up and running in Lakeland, FL with intentions of doing a Midwest one)

http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/prin ... -beer.html

In August, Urban Chestnut announced it was working with distributors to sell beer in Columbia, Jefferson City and Kansas City. In the Mid-Missouri market alone, the brewer expects to sell 250 barrels this year and quadruple that next year, Wolfe said. Estimates for Kansas City weren’t available yet. Like several local ...

Says 2013 UCBC brewed 6500 barrels. 2015 projections are 15,000.

It says Schlafly is searching for 40 acres and north city or north st. louis county. They brewed 58,000 barrels last year, up 6%.

Too bad they'll be in West County, but it's cool that St. Louis will be one of the five major brewing centers they envision for a national platform of contract brewers.
