I so want to go to there! Maybe John Goodman can be the spokesperson once the Blues Museum is up and running. This is something we need and is so very much part of our heritage. A cool museum would be a great addition to A-B experience and help anchor bustling beer tours like Mark mentioned above.

So a recovering alcoholic is going to be a spokesman for a brewery tour and museum? ;)

I don't know much about brewing needs, but what about one or two of the Crumden-Martin buildings for the new Schlafly space?

And, more from the PD:
The brewer said it will add two 60-barrel tanks next month to its brewery at 1220 S. 8th St. south of downtown and four more in January.

The new tanks will allow more consistent inventory to serve outside markets including Kansas City, Chicago, and Philadelphia, 4 Hands said in a statement, and increase its capacity to brew 13,000 barrels.

4 Hands also plans to release 12-ounce 4-packs of its Divided Sky Rye IPA, Reprise Centennial Red, Cast Iron Oatmeal Brown, and Single Speed beers.
Great to see growth continue with the local brews.

Its Brewery expansion day - O'Fallon looks to double in size - My guess is they would stay in St. Chuck - It would be nice if they go to downtown Main st - the old ACF buildings that anchor N Main would make a great brewery and give them the opportunity to do a tasting room - and add life to that end of the street -

^Pretty much. Think of communal seating at large, handmade tables with matching large, handmade benches. Related to what's going on with Urban Chestnut, Goebel & Co. recently had an installation at the Upstairs bar at Brennan's in the CWE: a reservable oversized table made of a single, large slab of sliced tree trunk, with custom seating around it.

Note that urbanstl had an article on the company's operations in Cardonelet last year.

More on Goebel & Company's news, including the company's move to Midtown:

I know this is not STL news (KC news) but it is Missouri news. I was not shocked by this, but didn't think he'd sell out just yet, much less to a Belgian company.

http://www.kansascity.com/2013/10/17/45 ... ewing.html

So much for those 'largest American brewer in Missouri' ads. I hope Schlafly stays STL/American owned.

PostOct 17, 2013#192

PS_ I wonder if this takes them off the top 50 American microbrews list.

PostOct 17, 2013#193

Now they can change their ads to "second largest Belgian owned brewery in Missouri" (Sorry, had to say it)

(Also, sorry for the multiple posts. I have not edit button :( )

Dogtown: Great you posted that. This is huge news in the STL & MO beer industry today, probably the largest beer news to come out of Missouri's beer industry in all of 2013. And yes, I do believe this makes Schlafly the #1 independent brewer in Missouri.
(and don't worry, I don't have an edit button on this browser, either)

I agree.... big news! Bad news IMO, for KC. Even if they grow, it is now a foreign-owned brewery.

^Yeah, but the founders are now rich, and so are their investors. I'm sure there's been some sort of revenue sharing program in there as well so everyone makes out of this with more money in their pockets. Plus, the new plans retain every employee and manager, so the team stays the same. I also would expect a strong degree of autonomy for Boulevard's operations; not like they're gonna start making only Belgian ales after the close. After all, it's not an institution, it's a brewery; not like they're shuttering anything or went out of business, just grabbed a new wealthy partner who can distribute their beers across the US and into Amsterdam. Congrats to Boulevard.

I agree, but you just never know where the operation will go. I like the beer. I drink occassionally. However, I'm sure some drink it because it is a KC owned beer. Many in KC take pride in that, as we do with our local brews. What direction will the new owners take the company....What they say now, could be different from what they actually do, years from now. I think, as you said, it appears to be a win. For KC, it is a loss. I know many from there, that take great pride in such good product being KC owned and produced. It may be produced in KC, but it is now a Belgian company. Not the hit AB caused to our egos, but still changes the perception. No more ads or signs proclaiming they are the "largest independent Missouri brewer".

Does that sign now move to Schlafly?
