Fun fact for anyone who hasn't been to Modern's new location; the food is great. 2 day cold fermented pizza, crab cake-hush puppies, baked oysters, great salads. Kitchen stays open with slices somewhat late. Beers are good. Excitedly waiting for the patio, but not sure on the whole fronting 64 thing and trying to enjoy a pint and conversation.
Mmmm, a patio with noise and fine particulates. Always the worst part of a run in the park. The people who shoved a highways through parks should be derided for all time.

^Needs an evergreen tree wall on both sides for the love of gawd
Anyone have news on the Heavy Riff expansion? I was at their Dogtown location recently and they still have a framed picture of the North Hampton rendering so I assume it's still in their plans.

New brewery Mississippi Culture is opening a taproom in Staunton in April
I will definitely be visiting this when it opens. Need to make it down to Scratch while I'm at it too

Our biggest local brewery, Anheuser Busch, has joined the culture wars, featuring a trans activist in new promotions. The internet is both outraged and ecstatic.

Gotta give Dylan Mulvaney credit for makin' dat $$. She's a genius.
Is the 4 Hands location in Kiener Plaza in operation? I can't find any information beyond an April schedule.
Seems odd to try so hard during April but not keep it up (promotional efforts, or reminders that it exists, even) during the actual summer months.

^Wasn't that caboose a part of a small shop once upon a time many many years ago? I hope they're not getting rid of it. Lovely old fence, too. I hope that finds a good home and sees restoration rather than merely the scrap heap.

^Four Hands ought to do gangbusters business there. I really miss the Custard Station. That place was something special.

gary kreie wrote: ↑Jul 10, 2023In the last plans I saw, the caboose stays and the gap between it and the building will be the entrance to the new beer garden. 4-Hands owns the building - I used to call it the Hopper building because it looks like something from a Hopper painting.

Andy's Custard killed Custard Station tbh, I'm glad Clementine's could come in and keep it ice cream focused.
The 4 Hands container bar has been removed from Kiener Plaza, so that answers that question.
Love to see these much-publicized openings just quietly go away after an extremely short time with no announcement or explanation and without even bothering to update the google maps listing or the page on 4 Hands' site for it.

I'm not sure that you're wrong, but it sounded more like the Custard Station owner wanted to retire than they were really losing money. Sadly neither Andy's nor Clementine's really appeal to me. Andy's is . . . okay? But the location is terrible and the product is not at all special. And Clementine's is ice cream, which doesn't really appeal to me. Much as I hate to say this I'm just stuck going to Ted Drews for now. (Until I can find something better in a location that isn't a traffic sewer.) Anyway, sorry. We're off the beer wagon and I need to get back on. I much suspect Four Hands will do very well there. Especially if they have a view of the tracks.GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Jul 10, 2023Andy's Custard killed Custard Station tbh, I'm glad Clementine's could come in and keep it ice cream focused.
A sad dilution of the brand and flagship location IMO. Now, up next, a Chesterfield location.

^I'm not sure why opening new locations is a dilution of the brand. Feels like honest growth to me, and I'm altogether in favor of seeing St. Louis brewers growing.

and their flagship location just got a huge investment and expansion.

The Heavy Riff expansion has had a pile of steel onsite for months now, but as of this morning there is construction fencing up and a contractor (I forget which) sign on the fencing.
Added: Raineri Construction is the contractor

It's been like that for a while. I stopped getting my hopes up about this.pattimagee wrote:The Heavy Riff expansion has had a pile of steel onsite for months now, but as of this morning there is construction fencing up and a contractor (I forget which) sign on the fencing.
