No green roofs either! Is it all new except for the white house?Mark Groth wrote:What no fountains? I love it.

Cool. The model pics definitely make it easier to imagine what the overall structure will look like. That stretch of Lindell is going to look great once it's complete; especially right next to the Business School.
I wish there was more recent info on this project.

I'm gonna miss the current law library. Lindell used to be a showplace for modernist architecture, but we're losing them one by one.

Couldn't have said it better Derekrbb wrote:What is this? A center for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to lawyer... if they can't even fit inside the building?!?

Agreed. However, the current law building is in DIRE need of replacement. It is literally 4 or 5 buildings connected through random hallways. A renovation makes 0 sense because it's not as simple as moving walls and adding new additions. A new, modern facility will help the law school expand and grow...which is good for Midtown.framer wrote:I'm gonna miss the current law library. We still have the Humanities building on Lindell though, and I don't see SLU wanting to shell out cash to replace it.

Professor Immel recently left $4 Million of his estate to SLU Law. It's the single largest donation in SLU law history. It's dedicated to the law school expansion, and SLU should soon be undertaking a very public fundraising effort. Last I heard they now have $11 million of the $40 million needed.

So we know Anheuser-Busch gave 3 mil, and Prof Immel gave 4 mil...so SLU only has raised 4 mil on their own so far?!
Seems they're REALLY dragging their feet on getting this project running.

Well, they announced their expansion at the worst possible time (right before the economic downturn). Also, it's been a "silent" fundraising effort. Now that they have broken the $10 million barrier, I'd expect you will hear much more about the efforts. With the increased publicity, hopefully the donations will start to roll in. At least that's the plan. Let's see if they stick to it.

Probably partially explains why the dean has been replaced.chaifetz10 wrote:So we know Anheuser-Busch gave 3 mil, and Prof Immel gave 4 mil...so SLU only has raised 4 mil on their own so far?!

Not to nitpick, but the Chaifetz gift for the arena was reported to be $12M.pjeckelkamp wrote:Professor Immel recently left $4 Million of his estate to SLU Law. In a message to the Law School today, the Dean mentioned moving forward on the expansion:
It's not exactly news, but it's the first mention I've heard of the project in months.I am pleased to announce that we will proceed on some of the elements outlined in the original building plans from a few years back. Our first priority will be to create new multipurpose, high-value, student-centered spaces that give us more flexibility for small-group learning, collaborative activities and events. We will build this new structure in the location of the parking lot next to Queen’s Daughters Hall. Future phases of the project will include renovations of our current space as well.

The quicker they break ground, the happier I'll be. I hate that empty lot...
That empty lot had two nice houses not that long ago...
While I did protest their demolition (SLU never listens to their students), I do want to see the expansion build as soon as possible.

I wish SLU and Grand Center could have worked out a deal to move that house. It would have been a great way to refill one of the vacant lots on Olive, west of Spring.MattnSTL wrote:That empty lot had two nice houses not that long ago...

SLU is in the information gathering stage.
I wouldn't expect to see that vacant lot filled anytime soon.

I believe they're past the information gathering stage. They've already released renderings and have had a fundraising campaign for the Law School expansion for years now...they should be pretty darn close to breaking ground by now.
- 54
Yes, there are renderings. However, specifics are still lacking in regards to the internal renovations, what steps to take first, and input from faculty/staff/students/ alumni.
Maybe we disagree on what "pretty darn close" means but I wouldn't expect any activity to start within a year.
Also, they are renovating the existing building before any new construction takes place.

^False. The new construction will happen before renovations occur. That information was posted in this thread just days ago.
As to your info about them not obtaining input from faculty, students, and alumni...that happened back in 2008-2009.wheelfru wrote:In a message to the Law School today, the Dean mentioned moving forward on the expansion:

Not sure how I missed that email. You're right that it now looks like the new structure will be built first. Dean Clark must have made that change when she came on board. My bad. However, the email also says:
So yeah, it's still going to be a while." I will soon appoint a committee to assist with brainstorming and feedback. The committee’s ideas will then be shared with architects who will begin to develop a rough structure and plan for our new space. The committee will also have a student representative, and you’ll see more details about this shortly."
At the end of the day, I think everybody is ready for SLU to do some infill (other then another sports facility). Midtown/Grand Center is not too many steps away from exploding, from the Law School expansion to the Hyatt to a new Grand Ave Viaduct/metrolink station and then maybe, maybe a signature building at Grand and Lindell to go along with Grand Ave BRT/streetcar
Ideally, it would be nice to see SLU move forward on some projetcs and UMSL build their Business admin building/rehab their chemistry labs. The region will needs Wash U, SLU and UMSL making bold plans, following through with them, and strengthening ties to SLCC. They are a huge asset to the region.

Agreed.
As much as I like sculptures - that cannot stay at Lindell and Grand.
