Latest update...

We are shooting for the end of March. Right now, we are waiting on the fire sprinkler modifications to be completed. After that, we can finish up the ceilings and start installing the equipment. We are finding that everything takes longer than we had planned, but it is getting closer. We will be rotating the works of local artists through the restaurant. Our first featured artist is a painter named Michael Bolton. You can see his website at http://www.mboltonart.com. Watch for more news soon!

Is it Michael Bolton the singer, or the guy from Office Space?

For my money, I don't know if it gets any better than when he sings 'When a Man Loves a Woman'."

It does when Percy Sledge sings it.

Ahhh, fond memories of the old "In Living Color" sketch that was titled something like "When A White Boy Needs A Big Hit" (sung to the tune of...)

You seem like the type who would be a Michael Bolton fan. So I had no way of knowing if you were serious or not.

What is this, musical profiling? Anyway, you've really missed again.

As the one Michael Bolton said of another, he's "a no-talent ass clown".

Dave,

Place is looking very very nice! I'm really liking the bar area and wonder what is that area that looks like a small room situtated in the middle of the floor? And speaking of floors, are you all doing anything funky to the flooring?

Thanks!

Thanks! Glad you like it. The 'room' you are talking about is our wine room. It is 9' x 12' and temperature controlled with thermal windows and full insulation. Wine is an important part of what we do, so we put this area right in the middle of everything. It's the first thing you see when you walk in the door and is an impressive (we think) presence in the bar area. I'm also working on acquiring an exciting piece of 'furniture' that will serve as a tasting table in the wine room itself (blatant tease). I have always tried to adopt an 'educational' approach to wine, and I have always found that making wine approachable and giving people an easy and 'safe' way to learn about wine or expand their horizons is a good way build relationships. We're working on the list now and are very excited about rolling it out.

As to the floor, we will have a few different surfaces, including some carpet in the private rooms, and hardwood. However, because the space used to house printers, the concrete has a unique coloration, so we are cleaning it up and putting a clear coat on most of the floor. I am excited about the way it is turning out so far.

*unfounded rumor coming*

I've heard that swingline didn't make a red stapler until the movie was released, and the demand for a red swingline stapler went through the roof. I don't know how true that is.

Dave,

I'm looking forward to your opening, the space sounds great. Sorry to take it over with office space talk.

No problem, Trent. We know you are probably just trying to increase the ebay value of your "pre-Office Space" custom painted red Swingline.

As I continue to drag this thread off-tangent; from IMDB.com for the movie.

The iconic red stapler coveted by Milton was created for the film by the prop department. They needed a bright enough color to be seen on film and chose red. After the film was released, Swingline began to receive requests from customers for red staplers. Having stopped offering red a number of years before, they made the decision to start offering the color once more.

Opening date finally set: Friday, April 13. (No word, however, on whether there will be a special "Jason" cherry fondue in honor of the special date. 8) )

Another reminder of why opening a new restaurant or bar is hell. Weren't they originally trying to be open by November of last year?

Yeah. I wonder what took so long? Licensing, contractors, financing, or all of the above?

Primarily, it was the architect in the beginning, taking longer than expected to develop final plans. Then we had to lean on a couple of contractors to get in and complete their work. Then you throw in the fact that everything takes longer than you initially expect and you get April 13th...

Look for me there when we open...I'll be the one in the hockey mask...
